Osea 4

DIODATI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 ASCOLTATE la parola del Signore, figliuoli d’Israele; perciocchè il Signore ha una lite con gli abitanti del paese; perchè non vi è nè verità, nè benignità, nè conoscenza alcuna di Dio nel paese.	1 Hear the word of the LORD, O people of Israel, for the LORD has a grievance against the inhabitants of the land: There is no fidelity, no mercy, no knowledge of God in the land.
2 Non fanno altro che spergiurare, e mentire, ed uccidere, e furare, e commettere adulterio; sono straboccati, un sangue tocca l’altro.	2 False swearing, lying, murder, stealing and adultery! in their lawlessness, bloodshed follows bloodshed.
3 Perciò, il paese farà cordoglio, e chiunque abita in esso languirà, insieme con le bestie della campagna, e con gli uccelli del cielo; ed anche i pesci del mare morranno.	3 Therefore the land mourns, and everything that dwells in it languishes: The beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and even the fish of the sea perish.
4 Pur nondimeno niuno litighi, e niuno riprenda; conciossiachè il tuo popolo somigli quelli che contendono col sacerdote.	4 But let no one protest, let no one complain; with you is my grievance, O priests!
5 Perciò, tu caderai di giorno, ed anche il profeta caderà di notte; ed io distruggerò tua madre	5 You shall stumble in the day, and the prophets shall stumble with you at night; I will destroy your mother.
6 Il mio popolo perisce per mancamento di conoscenza; perciocchè tu hai sdegnata la conoscenza, io altresì ti sdegnerò, acciocchè tu non mi eserciti il sacerdozio; e, perciocchè tu hai dimenticata la Legge dell’Iddio tuo, io altresì dimenticherò i tuoi figliuoli.	6 My people perish for want of knowledge! Since you have rejected knowledge, I will reject you from my priesthood; Since you have ignored the law of your God, I will also ignore your sons.
7 Al pari che son cresciuti, han peccato contro a me; io muterò la lor gloria in vituperio.	7 One and all they sin against me, exchanging their glory for shame.
8 Mangiano i peccati del mio popolo, ed hanno l’animo intento alla sua iniquità.	8 They feed on the sin of my people, and are greedy for their guilt.
9 Perciò, il sacerdote sarà come il popolo; ed io farò punizione sopra lui delle sue vie, e gli renderò la retribuzione dei suoi fatti.	9 The priests shall fare no better than the people: I will punish them for their ways, and repay them for their deeds.
10 E mangeranno, ma non si sazieranno; fornicheranno, ma non moltiplicheranno; perciocchè han lasciato il servigio del Signore.	10 They shall eat but not be satisfied, they shall play the harlot but not increase, Because they have abandoned the LORD
11 La fornicazione, e il vino, e il mosto, tolgono il senno	11 to practice harlotry. Old wine and new deprive my people of understanding.
12 Il mio popolo domanda il suo legno, e il suo bastone gli dà avviso; perciocchè lo spirito delle fornicazioni fa traviare; ed essi fornicano, sottraendosi dall’Iddio loro.	12 They consult their piece of wood, and their wand makes pronouncements for them, For the spirit of harlotry has led them astray; they commit harlotry, forsaking their God.
13 Sacrificano sopra le sommità de’ monti, e fan profumi sopra i colli, sotto le querce, e i pioppi, e gli olmi; perciocchè la loro ombra è bella; perciò, le vostre figliuole fornicheranno, e le vostre nuore commetteranno adulterio.	13 On the mountaintops they offer sacrifice and on the hills they burn incense, Beneath oak and poplar and terebinth, because of their pleasant shade. That is why your daughters play the harlot, and your daughters-in-law are adulteresses.
14 Io non farò punizione delle vostre figliuole, quando avran fornicato; nè delle vostre nuore, quando avranno commesso adulterio: perciocchè essi si separono con le meretrici, e sacrificano con le cortigiane, perciò, il popolo che non ha intendimento caderà.	14 Am I then to punish your daughters for their harlotry, your daughters-in-law for their adultery? You yourselves consort with harlots, and with prostitutes you offer sacrifice! So must a people without understanding come to ruin.
15 O Israele, se tu fornichi, Giuda almeno non rendasi colpevole; e non venite in Ghilgal, e non salite in Bet-aven; e non giurate: Il Signore vive.	15 Though you play the harlot, O Israel, let not Judah become guilty! Come not to Gilgal, nor up to Beth-aven, to swear, "As the Lord lives!"
16 Perciocchè Israele è divenuto ritroso, a guisa di giovenca ritrosa; ora li pasturerà il Signore, a guisa di agnello in luogo spazioso.	16 For Israel is as stubborn as a heifer; will the LORD now give them broad pastures as though they were lambs?
17 Efraim è congiunto con gl’idoli, lascialo.	17 Ephraim is an associate of idols, let him alone!
18 La lor bevanda si è rivolta, hanno fornicato senza fine; amano il Porgete; i rettori di questa nazione sono vituperosi.	18 When their carousing is over, they give themselves to harlotry; in their arrogance they love shame.
19 Il vento se la legherà nelle ale, ed essi saranno svergognati de’ lor sacrificii	19 The wind has bound them up in its pinions; they shall have only shame from their altars.
