1 Ma l’anno settimo, Gioiada si fortificò, e prese seco questi capi di centinaia, coi quali egli fece lega, cioè: Azaria, figliuolo di Ieroham; ed Ismaele, figliuolo di Iohanan; ed Azaria, figluolo di Obed; e Maaseia, figliuolo di Adaia; ed Elisafat, figliuolo di Zicri.	1 In the seventh year, Jehoiada took courage and entered a conspiracy with certain captains: Azariah, son of Jehoram; Ishmael, son of Jehohanan; Azariah, son of Obed; Masseiah, son of Adaiah; and Elishaphat, son of Zichri.
2 Ed essi andarono attorno per lo paese di Giuda, ed adunarono, da tutte le città di Giuda, i Leviti e i capi delle famiglie paterne d’Israele; e vennero in Gerusalemme.	2 They journeyed about Judah, gathering the Levites from all the cities of Judah and also the heads of the Israelite families. When they had come to Jerusalem,
3 E tutta quella raunanza fece lega col re, nella Casa di Dio. E Gioiada disse loro: Ecco, il figliuol del re regnerà, come il Signore ha promesso a’ figliuoli di Davide.	3 the whole assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. Jehoiada said to them: "Here is the king's son who must reign, as the LORD promised concerning the sons of David.
4 Questo è quello che voi farete: La terza parte di voi, cioè quelli ch’entrano in settimana, così sacerdoti come Leviti, sieno per portinai alle soglie delle porte;	4 This is what you must do: a third of your number, both priests and Levites, who come in on the sabbath must guard the thresholds,
5 e l’altra terza parte alla casa del re; e l’altra terza parte alla porta del fondamento; e tutto il popolo sia ne’ cortili della Casa del Signore.	5 another third must be at the king's palace, and the final third at the Foundation Gate, when all the people will be in the courts of the LORD'S temple.
6 E niuno entri nella Casa del Signore, se non i sacerdoti, ed i ministri d’infra i Leviti; essi entrino, perciocchè sono santificati; ma tutto il popolo osservi ciò che il Signore ha comandato che si osservi.	6 Let no one enter the LORD'S house except the priests and those Levites who are ministering. They may enter because they are holy; but all the other people must observe the prescriptions of the LORD.
7 Ed i Leviti circondino il re d’ogn’intorno, avendo ciascuno le sue arme in mano; e sia fatto morire chiunque entrerà nella Casa; e siate col re, quando egli entrerà, e quando uscirà fuori.	7 The Levites shall surround the king on all sides, each with his weapon drawn. Whoever tries to enter the house must be slain. Stay with the king wherever he goes."
8 I Leviti adunque, e tutto Giuda, fecero interamente secondo che il sacerdote Gioiada avea comandato, e presero ciascuno la sua gente, cioè, quelli ch’entravano in settimana e quelli che ne uscivano; perciocchè il sacerdote Gioiada non licenziò gli spartimenti.	8 The Levites and all Judah did just as Jehoiada the priest commanded. Each brought his men, those who were to come in on the sabbath as well as those who were to depart on the sabbath, since Jehoiada the priest had not dismissed any of the divisions.
9 E il sacerdote Gioiada diede a’ capi di centinaia le lance e gli scudi, e i pavesi, ch’erano stati del re Davide, ed erano nella Casa di Dio.	9 Jehoiada the priest gave the captains the spears, shields and bucklers of King David which were in the house of God.
10 E fece star tutta quella gente, ciascuno con la sua arme in mano, dal lato destro della Casa fino al sinistro, presso dell’Altare, e della Casa, d’intorno al re.	10 He stationed all the people, each with his spear in hand, from the southern to the northern extremity of the enclosure, around the altar and the temple on the king's behalf.
11 Allora il figliuolo del re fu menato fuori, e fu posta sopra lui la benda, e gli ornamenti reali, e fu dichiarato re. E Gioiada ed i suoi figliuoli l’unsero, e dissero: Viva il re	11 Then they brought out the king's son, set the crown and the insignia upon him, and made him king. Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and they cried, "Long live the king!"
12 Ed Atalia udì il romore del popolo, de’ sergenti, e di quelli che cantavano laudi presso del re; e venne al popolo nella Casa del Signore.	12 When Athaliah heard the din of the people running and acclaiming the king, she went to the people in the temple of the LORD.
13 E riguardò, ed ecco, il re era in piè, sopra il suo pergolo, all’entrata; e i capitani, e i trombettieri, erano appresso del re, con tutto il popolo del paese, che si rallegrava, e sonava con le trombe; parimente i cantori, con istrumenti musicali; e i mastri del canto di laudi. Allora Atalia si stracciò le vesti, e disse: Congiura, congiura.	13 She looked, and there was the king standing beside his pillar at the entrance, the officers and the trumpeters around him, and all the people of the land rejoicing and blowing trumpets, while the singers with their musical instruments were leading the acclaim. Athaliah tore her garments and cried out, "Treason! treason!"
14 E il sacerdote Gioiada fece uscir fuori i capi di centinaia, che comandavano a quell’esercito, e disse loro: Menatela fuor degli ordini; e chi le andrà dietro, sia ucciso con la spada. Perciocchè il sacerdote avea detto: Non fatela morire nella Casa del Signore.	14 Then Jehoiada the priest sent out the captains who were in command of the army; he said to them: "Take her outside through the ranks, and if anyone tries to follow her, let him die by the sword. For," the priest continued, "you must not put her to death in the LORD'S temple."
15 Essi adunque le fecero far largo; e, come ella se ne veniva nella casa del re, per l’entrata della porta de’ cavalli, fu quivi uccisa.	15 So they seized her, and when she arrived at the entrance to the Horse Gate of the palace, they put her to death there.
16 E Gioiada trattò patto fra sè e tutto il popolo, e il re, che sarebbero popolo del Signore.	16 Then Jehoiada made a covenant between himself and all the people and the king, that they should be the LORD'S people.
17 E tutto il popolo entrò nel tempio di Baal, e lo disfece, e spezzò gli altari, e le imagini di esso; ed uccise Mattan, sacerdote di Baal, davanti agli altari.	17 And all the people went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They smashed its altars and images, and they slew Mattan, the priest of Baal, before the altars.
18 E Gioiada dispose gli ufficii della Casa del Signore fra le mani de’ sacerdoti Leviti, i quali Davide avea costituiti, per certi spartimenti, sopra la Casa del Signore, per offerire olocausti al Signore, secondo ch’è scritto nella Legge di Mosè; e ciò fu fatto con allegrezza, e con cantici, secondo la disposizione di Davide.	18 Then Jehoiada gave the charge of the LORD'S temple into the hands of the levitical priests, to whom David had assigned turns in the temple for offering the holocausts of the LORD, as is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and song, as David had provided.
19 Costituì, oltre a ciò, i portinai alle porte della Casa del Signore; acciocchè niuno immondo per qualunque cosa vi entrasse.	19 Moreover, he stationed guards at the gates of the LORD'S temple so that no one unclean in any respect might enter.
20 Poi prese i capi delle centinaia, e gli uomini illustri, e quelli che aveano il reggimento del popolo, e tutto il popolo del paese; e condusse il re a basso, fuor della Casa del Signore; e passando per mezzo la porta alta, vennero nella casa del re, e fecero sedere il re sopra il trono reale.	20 Then he took the captains, the nobles, the rulers among the people, and all the people of the land, and led the king out of the LORD'S house. When they had come within the upper gate of the king's house, they seated the king upon the royal throne.
21 E tutto il popolo del paese si rallegrò, e la città fu in quiete, dopo che Atalia fu stata uccisa con la spada	21 All the people of the land rejoiced and the city was quiet, now that Athaliah had been put to death by the sword.
