1 Samuel 3

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 El joven Samuel servía al Señor en la presencia de Elí. La palabra del Señor era rara en aquellos días, y la visión no era frecuente.	1 Now, the boy Samuel was serving Yahweh in the presence of Eli; in those days it was rare for Yahwehto speak; visions were uncommon.
2 Un día, Elí estaba acostado en su habitación. Sus ojos comenzaban a debilitarse y no podía ver.	2 One day, it happened that Eli was lying down in his room. His eyes were beginning to grow dim; hecould no longer see.
3 La lámpara de Dios aún no se había apagado, y Samuel estaba acostado en el Templo del Señor, donde se encontraba el Arca de Dios.	3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying in Yahweh's sanctuary, where the ark ofGod was,
4 El Señor llamó a Samuel, y él respondió: «Aquí estoy».	4 when Yahweh cal ed, 'Samuel! Samuel!' He answered, 'Here I am,'
5 Samuel fue corriendo adonde estaba Elí y le dijo: «Aquí estoy, porque me has llamado». Pero Elí le dijo: «Yo no te llamé; vuelve a acostarte». Y él se fue a acostar.	5 and, running to Eli, he said, 'Here I am, as you cal ed me.' Eli said, 'I did not call. Go back and lie down.'So he went and lay down.
6 El Señor llamó a Samuel una vez más. El se levantó, fue adonde estaba Elí y le dijo: «Aquí estoy, porque me has llamado». Elí le respondió: «Yo no te llamé, hijo mío; vuelve a acostarte».	6 And again Yahweh cal ed, 'Samuel! Samuel!' He got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, as youcal ed me.' He replied, 'I did not cal , my son; go back and lie down.'
7 Samuel aún no conocía al Señor, y la palabra del Señor todavía no le había sido revelada.	7 As yet, Samuel had no knowledge of Yahweh and the word of Yahweh had not yet been revealed tohim.
8 El Señor llamó a Samuel por tercera vez. El se levantó, fue adonde estaba Elí y le dijo: «Aquí estoy, porque me has llamado». Entonces Elí comprendió que era el Señor el que llamaba al joven,	8 Again Yahweh called, the third time. He got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, as you cal ed me.'Eli then understood that Yahweh was cal ing the child,
9 y dijo a Samuel: «Ve a acostarte, y si alguien te llama, tú dirás: Habla, Señor, porque tu servidor escucha». Y Samuel fue a acostarse en su sitio.	9 and he said to Samuel, 'Go and lie down, and if someone calls say, "Speak, Yahweh; for your servant islistening." ' So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 Entonces vino el Señor, se detuvo, y llamó como las otras veces: «¡Samuel, Samuel!». El respondió: «Habla, porque tu servidor escucha».	10 Yahweh then came and stood by, cal ing as he had done before, 'Samuel! Samuel!' Samuelanswered, 'Speak, Yahweh; for your servant is listening.'
11 El Señor dijo a Samuel: «Mira, voy a hacer una cosa en Israel, que a todo el que la oiga le zumbarán los oídos.	11 Yahweh then said to Samuel, 'I am going to do something in Israel which wil make the ears of all whohear of it ring.
12 Aquel día, realizaré contra Elí todo lo que dije acerca de su casa, desde el comienzo hasta el fin.	12 I shal carry out that day against Eli everything that I have said about his family, from beginning to end.
13 Yo le anuncio que condeno a su casa para siempre a causa de su iniquidad, porque él sabía que sus hijos maldecían a Dios, y no los reprendió.	13 You are to tel him that I condemn his family for ever, since he is aware that his sons have beencursing God and yet has not corrected them.
14 Por eso, juro a la casa de Elí: jamás será expiada la falta de su casa, ni con sacrificios ni con oblaciones».	14 Therefore -- I swear it to the family of Eli -- no sacrifice or offering shal ever expiate the guilt of Eli'sfamily.'
15 Samuel se quedó acostado hasta la mañana. Después abrió las puertas de la Casa del Señor, pero no se atrevía a contar la visión a Elí.	15 Samuel lay where he was until morning and then opened the doors of Yahweh's temple. Samuel wasafraid to tel Eli about the vision,
16 Entonces Elí lo llamó y le dijo: «Samuel, hijo mío». «Aquí estoy», respondió él.	16 but Eli cal ed Samuel and said, 'Samuel, my son.' 'Here I am,' he replied.
17 Elí preguntó: «¿Qué es lo que te ha dicho? Por favor, no me ocultes nada. Que Dios te castigue, si me ocultas algo de lo que él te dijo».	17 Eli asked, 'What message did he give you? Please do not hide it from me. May God bring unnameableil s on you and worse ones, too, if you hide from me anything of what he said to you.'
18 Samuel le contó todo, sin ocultarte nada. Elí exclamó: «El es el Señor; que haga lo que mejor le parezca».	18 Samuel then told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Eli said, 'He is Yahweh; let him do what hethinks good.'
19 Samuel creció; el Señor estaba con él, y no dejó que cayera por tierra ninguna de sus palabras.	19 Samuel grew up. Yahweh was with him and did not let a single word fal to the ground of all that hehad told him.
20 Todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Berseba, supo que Samuel estaba acreditado como profeta del Señor.	20 Al Israel knew, from Dan to Beersheba, that Samuel was attested as a prophet of Yahweh.
21 El Señor continuó apareciéndose en Silo, porque era allí donde él se revelaba a Samuel.	21 Yahweh continued to manifest himself at Shiloh, revealing himself to Samuel there,
