EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Entonces Ana oró, diciendo: «Mi corazón se regocija en el Señor, tengo la frente erguida gracias a mi Dios. Mi boca se ríe de mis enemigos, porque tu salvación me ha llenado de alegría.	1 Hannah then prayed as fol ows: My heart exults in Yahweh, in my God is my strength lifted up, mymouth derides my foes, for I rejoice in your deliverance.
2 No hay Santo como el Señor, porque no hay nadie fuera de ti, y no hay Roca como nuestro Dios.	2 There is no Holy One like Yahweh, (indeed, there is none but you) no Rock like our God.
3 No hablen con tanta arrogancia, que la insolencia no les brote de la boca, porque el Señor es el Dios que lo sabe todo, y es él quien valora las acciones.	3 Do not keep talking so proudly, let no arrogance come from your mouth, for Yahweh is a wise God, histo weigh up deeds.
4 El arco de los valientes se ha quebrado, y los vacilantes se ciñen de vigor;	4 The bow of the mighty has been broken but those who were tottering are now braced with strength.
5 los satisfechos se contratan por un pedazo de pan, y los hambrientos dejan de fatigarse; la mujer estéril da a luz siete veces, y la madre de muchos hijos se marchita.	5 The ful fed are hiring themselves out for bread but the hungry need labour no more; the barren womanbears sevenfold but the mother of many is left desolate.
6 El Señor da la muerte y la vida, hunde en el Abismo y levanta de él.	6 Yahweh gives death and life, brings down to Sheol and draws up;
7 El Señor da la pobreza y la riqueza, humilla y también enaltece.	7 Yahweh makes poor and rich, he humbles and also exalts.
8 El levanta del polvo al desvalido y alza al pobre de la miseria, para hacerlos sentar con los príncipes y darles en herencia un trono de gloria; porque del Señor son las columnas de la tierra y sobre ellas afianzó el mundo.	8 He raises the poor from the dust, he lifts the needy from the dunghil to give them a place with princes,to assign them a seat of honour; for to Yahweh belong the pil ars of the earth, on these he has poised the world.
9 El protege los pasos de sus fieles, pero los malvados desaparecerán en las tinieblas, porque el hombre no triunfa por su fuerza.	9 He safeguards the steps of his faithful but the wicked vanish in darkness (for human strength can winno victories).
10 Los rivales del Señor quedan aterrados, el Altísimo truena desde el cielo. El Señor juzga los confines de la tierra; él fortalece a su rey y exalta la frente de su Ungido».	10 Yahweh, his enemies are shattered, the Most High thunders in the heavens. Yahweh judges the endsof the earth, he endows his king with power, he raises up the strength of his Anointed.
11 Luego Elcaná se fue a su casa en Ramá, y el niño quedó al servicio del Señor, a las órdenes del sacerdote Elí.	11 Elkanah then went home to Ramah, but the child stayed in Yahweh's service, in the presence of Elithe priest.
12 Los hijos de Elí eran unos canallas, que no reconocían al Señor	12 Now the sons of Eli were scoundrels; they cared nothing for Yahweh
13 ni respetaban los deberes de los sacerdotes para con el pueblo. Cada vez que alguien ofrecía un sacrificio, venía el servidor del sacerdote con un tenedor de tres dientes en la mano, mientras se cocía la carne.	13 nor for what was due to the priests from the people. Whenever anyone offered a sacrifice, the priest'sservant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being cooked;
14 Entonces lo metía en la olla o el caldero, en la cacerola o el tazón, y todo lo que recogía con el tenedor, se lo guardaba el sacerdote para él. Así hacían con todos los israelitas que iban a Silo.	14 he would thrust this into cauldron or pan, or dish or pot, and the priest claimed for his own whateverthe fork brought up. That was how they behaved with all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh.
15 Incluso antes que se quemara la grasa, venía el servidor del sacerdote y decía a la persona que ofrecía el sacrificio: «Dale al sacerdote carne para asar, él no aceptará de ti carne cocida, sino sólo cruda».	15 The priest's servant would even come up before the fat had been burnt and say to the person whowas making the sacrifice, 'Give the priest some meat for him to roast. He wil not accept boiled meat from you,only raw.'
16 Y si el hombre le decía: «Primero hay que quemar la grasa, después, llévate lo que quieras», el servidor replicaba: «No, o me la das ahora mismo, o me la llevo por la fuerza».	16 Then, if the person replied, 'Let the fat be burnt first, and then take for yourself whatever you choose,'he would retort, 'No! You must give it to me now or I shal take it by force.'
17 El pecado de esos ayudantes era muy grave delante del Señor, porque deshonraban las ofrendas del Señor.	17 The young men's sin was very great in Yahweh's eyes, because they treated with contempt theoffering made to Yahweh.
18 Samuel servía en la presencia del Señor; era un niño, y llevaba ceñido el efod de lino.	18 Samuel was in Yahweh's service, a child wearing a linen loincloth.
19 Su madre le hacía un pequeño manto, y se lo traía cada año, cuando subía con su marido a ofrecer el sacrificio anual.	19 His mother used to make him a little coat which she brought him each year when she came up withher husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
20 Entonces Elí bendecía a Elcaná y a su mujer, diciendo: «Que el Señor te conceda una descendencia de esta mujer, a cambio de aquel que fue cedido al Señor». Luego se volvían a su casa.	20 Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, 'May Yahweh grant you an heir by this woman inexchange for the one which she has made over to Yahweh,' and they would go home.
21 El Señor intervino en favor de Ana, y ella concibió y dio a luz tres hijos y dos hijas. Mientras tanto, el joven Samuel crecía junto al Señor.	21 Yahweh visited Hannah; she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile,the child Samuel grew up in Yahweh's presence.
22 Elí era ya muy viejo, y oyó hablar de todo lo que hacían sus hijos a Israel, y cómo se acostaban con las mujeres que prestaban servicio a la entrada de la Carpa del Encuentro.	22 Although very old, Eli heard about everything that his sons were doing to all Israel,
23 Entonces les dijo: «¿Por qué hacen esas cosas? Oigo hablar de todo el pueblo de las malas acciones que ustedes cometen.	23 and said, 'Why are you behaving as al the people say you are?
24 No, hijos míos, no es nada bueno el rumor que se hace correr entre el pueblo del Señor.	24 No, my sons, what I hear reported by the people of Yahweh is not good.
25 Si un hombre peca contra otro hombre, Dios interviene como árbitro; pero si un hombre peca contra el Señor, ¿quién puede interceder por él?». Pero ellos no escucharon la voz de su padre, porque el Señor quería hacerlos morir.	25 If one person sins against another, God will be the arbiter, but if he sins against Yahweh, who wilintercede for him?' But they did not listen to their father's words, for Yahweh was bent on kil ing them.
26 En cambio, el joven Samuel iba creciendo, y era apreciado por Dios y por los hombres.	26 Meanwhile, the child Samuel went on growing in stature and in favour both with Yahweh and withpeople.
27 Un hombre de Dios se presentó a Elí y le dijo: «Así habla el Señor: Yo me revelé a la familia de tu padre, cuando ellos estaban en Egipto, bajo el poder de la casa del Faraón.	27 A man of God came to Eli and said to him, 'This is what Yahweh says, "Did I not reveal myself to yourfather's family when they were in Egypt as slaves in Pharaoh's household?
28 Elegí a tu padre entre todas las tribus de Israel, para que fuera mi sacerdote y subiera a mi altar, para que hiciera arder el incienso y llevara el efod en mi presencia. Y asigné a la familia de tu padre todas las ofrendas que hacen quemar los israelitas.	28 Did I not single him out of al the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn theoffering, to carry the ephod in my presence; and did I not grant al the burnt offerings made by the Israelites toyour father's family?
29 ¿Por qué entonces pisotean mi sacrificio y mi ofrenda, que yo prescribí para mi Morada? ¿Por qué honras a tus hijos más que a mí, haciéndolos engordar con lo mejor de todas las ofrendas de mi pueblo Israel?	29 Why do you trample on the offering and on the sacrifice which I have ordered for my Dwelling, andhonour your sons more than me, by growing fat on the best of the offerings of Israel, my people?
30 Por eso, el Señor, el Dios de Israel, pronuncia este oráculo: Yo había dicho que tu familia caminaría siempre en mi presencia. Pero ahora –oráculo de Señor– ¡lejos de mí todo eso! Porque yo honro a los que me honran, pero los que me desprecian son humillados.	30 Whereas -- this is what Yahweh, God of Israel, declares -- I had promised that your family and yourfather's family would walk in my presence for ever, now, however -- this is what Yahweh declares -- nothing ofthe sort! Those who honour me I honour in my turn, and those who despise me wil be an object of contempt.
31 Llegan los días en que amputaré tu brazo y el de la familia de tu padre, de manera que no habrá más ancianos en tu casa.	31 Be sure, the days are coming when I shal cut off your strength and the strength of your father's family,so that no one in your family wil live to old age.
32 Tú verás un rival en la Morada; y aunque todo le vaya bien a Israel, nunca habrá ancianos en tu casa.	32 Beside the Dwel ing, you wil see al the benefits that I shall confer on Israel, but no one in your familywil ever live to old age.
33 Sin embargo, mantendré a algunos de tus descendientes cerca de mi altar, para que se consuman tus ojos y se desgaste tu vida; pero todos los vástagos de tu casa morirán en la flor de la edad.	33 I shal keep one of you at my altar for his eyes to go blind and his soul to wither, but the bulk of yourfamily wil die by the sword.
34 Y te servirá de señal lo que les sucederá a tus hijos Jofní y Pinjás: ambos morirán el mismo día.	34 ' "What happens to your two sons Hophni and Phinehas will be a sign for you: on the same day bothwil die.
35 En cambio, yo me suscitaré un sacerdote fiel, que obrará conforme a mi corazón y a mis deseos. Yo le edificaré una casa duradera, y él caminará en presencia de mi Ungido todos los días de su vida.	35 I shal raise myself a faithful priest, who wil do as I intend and as I desire. I shal build him an enduringHouse and he wil walk in the presence of my Anointed for ever.
36 Y todos los que subsistan de tu casa irán a postrarse delante de él por una moneda de plata y una miga de pan, y le dirán: Admíteme, por favor, a cualquiera de las funciones sacerdotales, para que tenga un pedazo de pan que comer».	36 The members of your House who survive wil come and beg him on their knees for a silver coin and aloaf of bread and say: Please give me some priestly work, so that I can have a scrap of bread to eat." '
