EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 El que cree que Jesús es el Cristo ha nacido de Dios; y el que ama al Padre ama también al que ha nacido de él,	1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ, is born of God. And everyone who loves God, who provides that birth, also loves him who has been born of God.
2 La señal de que amamos a los hijos de Dios es que amamos a Dios y cumplimos sus mandamientos.	2 In this way, we know that we love those born of God: when we love God and do his commandments.
3 El amor a Dios consiste en cumplir sus mandamientos, y sus mandamientos no son una carga,	3 For this is the love of God: that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not heavy.
4 porque el que ha nacido de Dios, vence al mundo. Y la victoria que triunfa sobre el mundo es nuestra fe.	4 For all that is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that overcomes the world: our faith.
5 ¿Quién es el que vence al mundo, sino el que cree que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios?	5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God!
6 Jesucristo vino por el agua y por la sangre; no solamente con el agua, sino con el agua y con la sangre. Y el Espíritu es la verdad.	6 This is the One who came by water and blood: Jesus Christ. Not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit is the One who testifies that the Christ is the Truth.
7 Son tres los que dan testimonio:	7 For there are Three who give testimony in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit. And these Three are One.
8 el Espíritu, el agua y la sangre; y los tres están de acuerdo.	8 And there are three who give testimony on earth: the Spirit, and the water, and the blood. And these three are one.
9 Si damos fe al testimonio de los hombres, con mayor razón tenemos que aceptar el testimonio de Dios. Y Dios ha dado testimonio de su Hijo.	9 If we accept the testimony of men, then the testimony of God is greater. For this is the testimony of God, which is greater: that he has testified about his Son.
10 El que cree en el Hijo de Dios tiene en su corazón el testimonio de Dios. El que no cree a Dios lo hace pasar por mentiroso, porque no cree en el testimonio que Dios ha dado acerca de su Hijo.	10 Whoever believes in the Son of God, holds the testimony of God within himself. Whoever does not believe in the Son, makes him a liar, because he does not believe in the testimony which God has testified about his Son.
11 Y el testimonio es este: Dios nos dio la Vida eterna, y esa Vida está en su Hijo.	11 And this is the testimony which God has given to us: Eternal Life. And this Life is in his Son.
12 El que está unido al Hijo, tiene la Vida; el que no lo está, no tiene la Vida.	12 Whoever has the Son, has Life. Whoever does not have the Son, does not have Life.
13 Les he escrito estas cosas, a ustedes que creen en el nombre del Hijo de Dios, para que sepan que tienen la Vida eterna.	13 I am writing this to you, so that you may know that you have Eternal Life: you who believe in the name of the Son of God.
14 Tenemos plena confianza de que Dios nos escucha si le pedimos algo conforme a su voluntad.	14 And this is the confidence which we have toward God: that no matter what we shall request, in accord with his will, he hears us.
15 Y sabiendo que él nos escucha en todo lo que le pedimos, sabemos que ya poseemos lo que le hemos pedido.	15 And we know that he hears us, no matter what we request; so we know that we can obtain the things that we request of him.
16 El que ve a su hermano cometer un pecado que no lleva a la muerte, que ore y le dará la Vida. Me refiero a los que cometen pecados que no conducen a la muerte, porque hay un pecado que lleva a la muerte; por este no les pido que oren.	16 Anyone who realizes that his brother has sinned, with a sin that is not unto death, let him pray, and life shall be given to him who has sinned not unto death. There is a sin which is unto death. I am not saying that anyone should ask on behalf of that sin.
17 Aunque toda maldad es pecado, no todo pecado lleva a la muerte.	17 All that is iniquity is sin. But there is a sin unto death.
18 Sabemos que el que ha nacido de Dios no peca, sino que el Hijo de Dios lo protege, y el Maligno no le puede hacer nada.	18 We know that everyone who is born of God does not sin. Instead, rebirth in God preserves him, and the evil one cannot touch him.
19 Sabemos que somos de Dios, y que el mundo entero está bajo el poder del Maligno.	19 We know that we are of God, and that the entire world is established in wickedness.
20 Y sabemos también que el Hijo de Dios ha venido y nos ha dado inteligencia para que conozcamos al que es Verdadero; y nosotros permanecemos en el que es Verdadero, en su Hijo Jesucristo. El es el Dios verdadero y la Vida eterna.	20 And we know that the Son of God has arrived, and that he has given us understanding, so that we may know the true God, and so that we may remain in his true Son. This is the true God, and this is Eternal Life.
21 Hijitos míos, cuídense de los ídolos...	21 Little sons, keep yourselves from false worship. Amen.
