Gálatas 4

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Voy a ser más explícito: el heredero, mientras es menor de edad, aunque sea propietario de todos sus bienes, en nada se diferencia de un esclavo.	1 What I am saying is this: an heir, during the time while he is stil under age, is no different from a slave,even though he is the owner of al the property;
2 En efecto, hasta la edad fijada por su padre, está bajo la dependencia de sus tutores y administradores.	2 he is under the control of guardians and administrators until the time fixed by his father.
3 Así también nosotros, cuando éramos menores de edad, estábamos sometidos a los elementos del mundo.	3 So too with us, as long as we were stil under age, we were enslaved to the elemental principles of thisworld;
4 Pero cuando se cumplió el tiempo establecido, Dios envió a su Hijo, nacido de una mujer y sujeto a la Ley,	4 but when the completion of the time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born a subject of theLaw,
5 para redimir a os que estaban sometidos a la Ley y hacernos hijos adoptivos.	5 to redeem the subjects of the Law, so that we could receive adoption as sons.
6 Y la prueba de que ustedes son hijos, es que Dios infundió en nuestros corazones el Espíritu de su Hijo, que clama a Dios llamándolo» ¡Abba!, es decir, ¡Padre!	6 As you are sons, God has sent into our hearts the Spirit of his Son crying, 'Abba, Father';
7 Así, ya no eres más esclavo, sino hijo, y por lo tanto, heredero por la gracia de Dios.	7 and so you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir, by God's own act.
8 Antes, cuando ustedes no conocían a Dios, estaban al servicio de dioses que no lo son realmente.	8 But formerly when you did not know God, you were kept in slavery to things which are not really gods atal ,
9 Pero ahora, que conocen a Dios –o mejor dicho, que son conocidos por él– ¿cómo es posible que se vuelvan otra vez a esos elementos sin fuerza ni valor, para someterse nuevamente a ellos?	9 whereas now that you have come to recognise God -- or rather, be recognised by God -- how can younow turn back again to those powerless and bankrupt elements whose slaves you now want to be al overagain?
10 ¡Observar los días, los meses, las estaciones y los años!	10 You are keeping special days, and months, and seasons and years-
11 Francamente, temo haber trabajado inútilmente por ustedes.	11 I am beginning to be afraid that I may, after al , have wasted my efforts on you.
12 Les ruego, hermanos, que se hagan semejantes a mí, como yo me hice semejante a ustedes. En realidad, no me han ofendido en nada.	12 I urge you, brothers,-be like me, as I have become like you. You have never been unfair to me;
13 Ya saben que fue en ocasión de una enfermedad cuando les prediqué por primera vez la Buena Noticia.	13 indeed you remember that it was an il ness that first gave me the opportunity to preach the gospel toyou,
14 A pesar de que mi aspecto físico era una prueba para ustedes, no me desdeñaron ni me despreciaron; todo lo contrario, me recibieron como a un ángel de Dios, como a Cristo Jesús.	14 but though my il ness was a trial to you, you did not show any distaste or revulsion; instead, youwelcomed me as a messenger of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself.
15 ¿Dónde está la alegría que sintieron entonces? Yo mismo puedo atestiguar que, de ser posible, se habrían arrancado los ojos para dármelos.	15 What has happened to the utter contentment you had then? For I can testify to you that you wouldhave plucked your eyes out, were that possible, and given them to me.
16 ¿Y ahora me he convertido en enemigo de ustedes por decirles la verdad?	16 Then have I turned into your enemy simply by being truthful with you?
17 El interés que los otros demuestran por ustedes no es bueno: lo que quieren es separarlos de mí, para que se interesen por ellos.	17 Their devotion to you has no praiseworthy motive; they simply want to cut you off from me, so that youmay centre your devotion on them.
18 Está bien interesarse por los demás, con tal que ese interés sea verdadero y para siempre, y no sólo cuando yo estoy entre ustedes.	18 Devotion to a praiseworthy cause is praiseworthy at any time, not only when I am there with you.
19 ¡Hijos míos, por quienes estoy sufriendo nuevamente los dolores del parto hasta que Cristo sea formado en ustedes!	19 My children, I am going through the pain of giving birth to you al over again, until Christ is formed inyou;
20 Ahora mismo desearía estar allí para hablarles de otra manera, porque ya no sé cómo proceder con ustedes.	20 and how I wish I could be there with you at this moment and find the right way of talking to you: I amquite at a loss with you.
21 Ustedes que quieren someterse a la Ley, díganme: ¿No entienden lo que dice la Ley?	21 Tell me then, you are so eager to be subject to the Law, have you listened to what the Law says?
22 Porque está escrito que Abraham tuvo dos hijos: uno de su esclava y otro de su mujer, que era libre.	22 Scripture says that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave girl and one by the freewoman.
23 El hijo de la esclava nación según la carne; en cambio, el hijo de la mujer libre, nació en virtud de la promesa.	23 The son of the slave girl came to be born in the way of human nature; but the son of the freewomancame to be born through a promise.
24 Hay en todo esto un simbolismo: estas dos mujeres representan las dos Alianzas. La primera Alianza, la del monte Sinaí, que engendró un pueblo para la esclavitud, está representada por Agar,	24 There is an al egory here: these women stand for the two covenants. The one given on Mount Sinai --that is Hagar, whose children are born into slavery;
25 porque el monte Sinaí está en Arabia, y corresponde a la Jerusalén actual, ya que ella con sus hijos viven en la esclavitud.	25 now Sinai is a mountain in Arabia and represents Jerusalem in its present state, for she is in slaverytogether with her children.
26 Pero hay otra Jerusalén, la celestial, que es libre, y ella es nuestra madre.	26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and that is the one that is our mother;
27 Porque dice la Escritura: "¡Alégrate, tú que eres estéril y no das a luz; prorrumpe en gritos de alegría, tú que no conoces los dolores del parto! Porque serán más numerosos los hijos de la mujer abandonada que los hijos de la que tiene marido".	27 as scripture says: Shout for joy, you barren woman who has borne no children! Break into shouts ofjoy, you who were never in labour. For the sons of the forsaken one are more in number than the sons of thewedded wife.
28 Nosotros, hermanos, somos como Isaac, hijos de la promesa.	28 Now you, brothers, are like Isaac, children of the promise;
29 Y así como entonces el hijo nacido según la carne perseguía al hijo nacido por obra del Espíritu, así también sucede ahora.	29 just as at that time, the child born in the way of human nature persecuted the child born through theSpirit, so now.
30 Pero dice la Escritura: Echa a la esclava y a su hijo, porque el hijo de la esclava no va a compartir la herencia con el hijo de la mujer libre.	30 But what is it that scripture says? Drive away that slave girl and her son; the slave girl's son is not toshare the inheritance with the son of the freewoman.
31 Por lo tanto, hermanos, no somos hijos de una esclava, sino de la mujer libre.	31 So, brothers, we are the children not of the slave girl but of the freewoman.
