Deuteronomio 32

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 «Escucha, cielo, y hablaré. oiga la tierra las palabras de mi boca.	1 Give ear, O heavens, while I speak; let the earth hearken to the words of my mouth!
2 Que mi enseñanza descienda como lluvia y mi palabra caiga como rocío, como aguacero sobre la hierba, como chaparrones sobre el pasto	2 May my instruction soak in like the rain, and my discourse permeate like the dew, Like a downpour upon the grass, like a shower upon the crops.
3 Yo voy a proclamar el nombre del Señor: ¡den gloria a nuestro Dios!	3 For I will sing the LORD'S renown. Oh, proclaim the greatness of our God!
4 El es la Roca: su obra es perfecta, todos sus caminos son justos; es un Dios fiel y sin falsedad, justiciero y recto.	4 The Rock--how faultless are his deeds, how right all his ways! A faithful God, without deceit, how just and upright he is!
5 Pero se comportaron mal con él los que ya no son sus hijos, a causa de su depravación. esa generación tortuosa y perversa.	5 Yet basely has he been treated by his degenerate children, a perverse and crooked race!
6 ¿Así le pagas al Señor, pueblo necio e insensato? ¿Acaso él no es tu padre y tu creador, el que te hizo y te afianzó?	6 Is the LORD to be thus repaid by you, O stupid and foolish people? Is he not your father who created you? Has he not made you and established you?
7 Acuérdate de los días lejanos, considera las épocas pasadas; pregúntale a tu padre, y él te informará, a los ancianos, y ellos te lo dirán:	7 Think back on the days of old, reflect on the years of age upon age. Ask your father and he will inform you, ask your elders and they will tell you:
8 Cuando el Altísimo dio una herencia a cada nación, cuando distribuyó a los hombres, él fijó las fronteras de los pueblos según el número de los hijos de Dios.	8 When the Most High assigned the nations their heritage, when he parceled out the descendants of Adam, He set up the boundaries of the peoples after the number of the sons of God;
9 Pero la parte del Señor es su pueblo. la porción de su herencia es Jacob.	9 While the LORD'S own portion was Jacob, His hereditary share was Israel.
10 Lo encontró en una tierra desierta. en la soledad rugiente de la estepa: lo rodeó y lo cuidó. lo protegió como a la pupila de sus ojos.	10 He found them in a wilderness, a wasteland of howling desert. He shielded them and cared for them, guarding them as the apple of his eye.
11 Como el águila que impulsa a su nidada. revoloteando sobre sus pichones. así extendió sus alas, lo tomó y lo llevó sobre sus plumas.	11 As an eagle incites its nestlings forth by hovering over its brood, So he spread his wings to receive them and bore them up on his pinions.
12 El Señor solo lo condujo, no había a su lado ningún dios extranjero.	12 The LORD alone was their leader, no strange god was with him.
13 Lo puso encima de las alturas del país, para que comiera los frutos de los campos; lo alimentó con miel de los peñascos, con aceite de la roca dura;	13 He had them ride triumphant over the summits of the land and live off the products of its fields, Giving them honey to suck from its rocks and olive oil from its hard, stony ground;
14 con cuajada de vaca y leche de oveja, con la gordura de corderos y cameros; con toros de Basán y con cabritos, y con la mejor harina de trigo; y le dio como bebida, la sangre espumante de la uva.	14 Butter from its cows and milk from its sheep, with the fat of its lambs and rams; Its Bashan bulls and its goats, with the cream of its finest wheat; and the foaming blood of its grapes you drank.
15 Así engordó lesurún y dio patadas –¡sí, engordaste, te pusiste obeso y corpulento!–. El rechazó al Dios que lo creó, despreció a su Roca salvadora.	15 (So Jacob ate his fill,) the darling grew fat and frisky; you became fat and gross and gorged. They spurned the God who made them and scorned their saving Rock.
16 Provocaron sus celos con dioses extraños, lo irritaron con abominaciones.	16 They provoked him with strange gods and angered him with abominable idols.
17 Ofrecieron sacrificios a demonios que no son Dios. a dioses que no conocían, a dioses nuevos, recién llegados, que sus padres no habían venerado.	17 They offered sacrifice to demons, to "no-gods," to gods whom they had not known before, To newcomers just arrived, of whom their fathers had never stood in awe.
18 Así despreciaste a la Roca que te engendró. olvidaste al Dios que te hizo nacer.	18 You were unmindful of the Rock that begot you, You forgot the God who gave you birth.
19 Al ver esto, el Señor se indignó y desechó a sus hijos y a sus hijas.	19 When the LORD saw this, he was filled with loathing and anger toward his sons and daughters.
20 Entonces dijo: Les ocultaré mi rostro, para ver en qué terminan. Porque son una generación perversa, hijos faltos de lealtad.	20 'I will hide my face from them," he said, "and see what will then become of them. What a fickle race they are, sons with no loyalty in them!
21 Provocaron mis celos con algo que no es Dios. me irritaron con sus ídolos vanos; yo provocaré sus celos con algo que no es un pueblo, los irritaré con una nación insensata	21 "Since they have provoked me with their 'no-god' and angered me with their vain idols, I will provoke them with a 'no-people'; with a foolish nation I will anger them.
22 Porque se ha encendido el fuego de mi ira y arderá hasta el fondo del abismo; consumirá la tierra y sus cosechas y abrasará los cimientos de las montañas.	22 "For by my wrath a fire is enkindled that shall rage to the depths of the nether world, Consuming the earth with its yield, and licking with flames the roots of the mountains.
23 Amontonaré desastres sobre ellos, lanzaré contra ellos todas mis flechas.	23 I will spend on them woe upon woe and exhaust all my arrows against them:
24 Quedarán extenuados por el hambre, consumidos por la fiebre y la peste maligna; enviaré contra ellos los dientes de las fieras y el veneno de reptiles que se arrastran sobre el polvo.	24 "Emaciating hunger and consuming fever and bitter pestilence, And the teeth of wild beasts I will send among them, with the venom of reptiles gliding in the dust.
25 Afuera los diezmará la espada. y adentro, el terror. tanto al joven como a la muchacha, al niño de pecho como al anciano.	25 "Snatched away by the sword in the street and by sheer terror at home Shall be the youth and the maiden alike, the nursing babe as well as the hoary old man.
26 Yo me propuse reducirlos a polvo y borrar su recuerdo de entre los hombres,	26 "I would have said, 'I will make an end of them and blot out their name from men's memories,'
27 pero temí que sus enemigos se jactaran, que cayeran en el error y dijeran: «Nuestra mano ha prevalecido, no es el Señor el que hizo todo esto».	27 Had I not feared the insolence of their enemies, feared that these foes would mistakenly boast, 'Our own hand won the victory; the LORD had nothing to do with it.'"
28 Porque esa gente ha perdido el juicio y carece de inteligencia.	28 For they are a people devoid of reason, having no understanding.
29 Si fueran sensatos entenderían estas cosas. comprenderán la suerte que les espera	29 If they had insight they would realize what happened, they would understand their future and say,
30 ¿Cómo podría uno solo desbandar a mil y dos, poner en fuga a diez mil, si su Roca no los hubiera vendido y el Señor no los hubiera entregado?	30 "How could one man rout a thousand, or two men put ten thousand to flight, Unless it was because their Rock sold them and the LORD delivered them up?"
31 Porque la roca de ellos no es como nuestra Roca: nuestros mismos enemigos lo confirman.	31 Indeed, their "rock" is not like our Rock, and our foes are under condemnation.
32 Su viña es un retoño de la viña de Sodoma. de las plantaciones de Gomorra. Sus uvas son uvas venenosas. sus racimos tienen un sabor amargo.	32 They are a branch of Sodom's vinestock, from the vineyards of Gomorrah. Poisonous are their grapes and bitter their clusters.
33 Su vino es veneno de serpientes, un terrible veneno de víboras.	33 Their wine is the venom of dragons and the cruel poison of cobras.
34 ¿Acaso no está esto registrado y sellado en mis archivos?	34 "Is not this preserved in my treasury, sealed up in my storehouse,
35 Mía será la venganza y la retribución en el momento que vacilen sus pies, porque está cerca el día de su ruina y ya se precipita el desenlace.	35 Against the day of vengeance and requital, against the time they lose their footing?" Close at hand is the day of their disaster and their doom is rushing upon them!
36 Sí, el Señor hará justicia con su pueblo y tendrá compasión de sus servidores. Cuando vea que sus manos flaquean y ya no quedan esclavos ni hombres libres,	36 Surely, the LORD shall do justice for his people; on his servants he shall have pity. When he sees their strength failing, and their protected and unprotected alike disappearing,
37 él dirá: ¿Dónde están sus dioses, la roca donde buscaron un refugio	37 He will say, "Where are their gods whom they relied on as their 'rock'?
38 los que comían la grasa de sus sacrificios y bebían el vino de sus libaciones? Que se levanten y vengan en su ayuda, que sean para ustedes un refugio.	38 Let those who ate the fat of your sacrifices and drank the wine of your libations Rise up now and help you! Let them be your protection!
39 Miren bien que yo, sólo yo soy, y no hay otro dios junto a mí. Yo doy la muerte y la vida. yo hiero y doy la salud. y no hay nadie que libre de mi mano	39 "Learn then that I, I alone, am God, and there is no god besides me. It is I who bring both death and life, I who inflict wounds and heal them, and from my hand there is no rescue.
40 Yo levanto mi mano hacia el cielo y juro: Tan cierto como que vivo eternamente,	40 "To the heavens I raise my hand and swear: As surely as I live forever,
41 cuando afile mi espada fulgurante y mi mano empuñe la justicia, me vengaré de mis enemigos y daré su merecido a mis adversarios.	41 I will sharpen my flashing sword, and my hand shall lay hold of my quiver. "With vengeance I will repay my foes and requite those who hate me.
42 Embriagaré mis flechas con sangre mi espada devorará carne: sangre de muertos y cautivos, cabezas de jefes enemigos.	42 I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall gorge itself with flesh-- With the blood of the slain and the captured, Flesh from the heads of the enemy leaders."
43 Naciones, aclamen a su pueblo, porque él vengará la sangre de sus servidores, se vengará de sus enemigos y purificará su tierra y su pueblo».	43 Exult with him, you heavens, glorify him, all you angels of God; For he avenges the blood of his servants and purges his people's land.
44 Moisés fue con Josué, hijo de Nun, y recitó delante del pueblo todas las palabras de este poema.	44 So Moses, together with Joshua, son of Nun, went and recited all the words of this song for the people to hear.
45 Cuando Moisés terminó de recitar estas palabras a todo Israel,	45 When Moses had finished speaking all these words to all Israel,
46 les dijo: «Presten atención a todas las palabras de esta Ley, con las que hoy atestiguo contra ustedes. Prescríbanselas a sus hijos, para que ellos practiquen cuidadosamente todas las palabras de esta Ley.	46 he said, "Take to heart all the warning which I have now given you and which you must impress on your children, that you may carry out carefully every word of this law.
47 Porque esta no es una palabra vana, sino que es la vida de ustedes, y por ella vivirán muchos años en la tierra que van a poseer después que crucen el Jordán».	47 For this is no trivial matter for you; rather, it means your very life, since it is by this means that you are to enjoy a long life on the land which you will cross the Jordan to occupy."
48 Aquel mismo día, el Señor dijo a Moisés:	48 On that very day the LORD said to Moses,
49 «Sube a esa montaña de los Abarím, al monte Nebo que está en el país de Moab, frente a Jericó, y contempla la tierra de Canaán que yo doy en propiedad a los israelitas.	49 "Go up on Mount Nebo, here in the Abarim Mountains (it is in the land of Moab facing Jericho), and view the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites as their possession.
50 Tú morirás en la montaña a la que vas a subir e irás a reunirte con los tuyos, como tu hermano Aarón murió en el monte Hor y fue a reunirse con los suyos.	50 Then you shall die on the mountain you have climbed, and shall be taken to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor and there was taken to his people;
51 Porque ustedes fueron infieles a mí junto a las aguas de Meribá de Cades, en el desierto de Sin, y no manifestaron mi santidad en medio de los israelitas.	51 because both of you broke faith with me among the Israelites at the waters of Meribath-kadesh in the desert of Zin by failing to manifest my sanctity among the Israelites.
52 Por eso no entrarás en la tierra que yo daré a los israelitas, sino que solamente la verás de lejos».	52 You may indeed view the land at a distance, but you shall not enter that land which I am giving to the Israelites."
