Lucas 11

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Un día, Jesús estaba orando en cierto lugar, y cuando terminó, uno de sus discípulos le dijo: «Señor, enséñanos a orar, así como Juan enseñó a sus discípulos».	1 Now it happened that he was in a certain place praying, and when he had finished, one of his disciplessaid, 'Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.'
2 El les dijo entonces: «Cuando oren, digan: Padre, santificado sea tu Nombre, que venga tu Reino,	2 He said to them, 'When you pray, this is what to say: Father, may your name be held holy, yourkingdom come;
3 danos cada día nuestro pan cotidiano;	3 give us each day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins,
4 perdona nuestros pecados, porque también nosotros perdonamos a aquellos que nos ofenden; y no nos dejes caer en la tentación».	4 for we ourselves forgive each one who is in debt to us. And do not put us to the test.'
5 Jesús agregó: «Supongamos que algunos de ustedes tiene un amigo y recurre a él a medianoche, para decirle: "Amigo, préstame tres panes,	5 He also said to them, 'Suppose one of you has a friend and goes to him in the middle of the night tosay, "My friend, lend me three loaves,
6 porque uno de mis amigos llegó de viaje y no tengo nada que ofrecerle",	6 because a friend of mine on his travels has just arrived at my house and I have nothing to offer him;"
7 y desde adentro él le responde: "No me fastidies; ahora la puerta está cerrada, y mis hijos y yo estamos acostados. No puedo levantarme para dártelos".	7 and the man answers from inside the house, "Do not bother me. The door is bolted now, and mychildren are with me in bed; I cannot get up to give it to you."
8 Yo les aseguro que aunque él no se levante para dárselos por ser su amigo, se levantará al menos a causa de su insistencia y le dará todo lo necesario.	8 I tel you, if the man does not get up and give it to him for friendship's sake, persistence wil make himget up and give his friend al he wants.
9 También les aseguro: pidan y se les dará, busquen y encontrarán, llamen y se les abrirá.	9 'So I say to you: Ask, and it wil be given to you; search, and you wil find; knock, and the door wil beopened to you.
10 Porque el que pide, recibe; el que busca, encuentra; y al que llama, se le abre.	10 For everyone who asks receives; everyone who searches finds; everyone who knocks wil have thedoor opened.
11 ¿Hay entre ustedes algún padre que da a su hijo una piedra cuando le pide pan? ¿Y si le pide un pescado, le dará en su lugar una serpiente?	11 What father among you, if his son asked for a fish, would hand him a snake?
12 ¿Y si le pide un huevo, le dará un escorpión?	12 Or if he asked for an egg, hand him a scorpion?
13 Si ustedes, que son malos, saben dar cosas buenas a sus hijos, cuánto más el Padre del cielo dará el Espíritu Santo a aquellos que se lo pidan».	13 If you then, evil as you are, know how to give your children what is good, how much more wil theheavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!'
14 Jesús estaba expulsando a un demonio que era mudo. Apenas salió el demonio, el mudo empezó a hablar. La muchedumbre quedó admirada,	14 He was driving out a devil and it was dumb; and it happened that when the devil had gone out thedumb man spoke, and the people were amazed.
15 pero algunos de ellos decían: «Este expulsa a los demonios por el poder de Belzebul, el Príncipe de los demonios».	15 But some of them said, 'It is through Beelzebul, the prince of devils, that he drives devils out.'
16 Otros, para ponerlo a prueba, exigían de él un signo que viniera del cielo.	16 Others asked him, as a test, for a sign from heaven;
17 Jesús, que conocía sus pensamientos, les dijo: «Un reino donde hay luchas internas va a la ruina y sus casa caen una sobre otra.	17 but, knowing what they were thinking, he said to them, 'Any kingdom which is divided against itself isheading for ruin, and house col apses against house.
18 Si Satanás lucha contra sí mismo, ¿cómo podrá subsistir su reino? Porque –como ustedes dicen– yo expulso a los demonios con el poder de Belzebul.	18 So, too, with Satan: if he is divided against himself, how can his kingdom last? - since you claim thatit is through Beelzebul that I drive devils out.
19 Si yo expulso a los demonios con el poder de Belzebul, ¿con qué poder los expulsan los discípulos de ustedes? Por eso, ustedes los tendrán a ellos como jueces.	19 Now if it is through Beelzebul that I drive devils out, through whom do your own sons drive them out?They shall be your judges, then.
20 Pero si yo expulso a los demonios con la fuerza del dedo de Dios, quiere decir que el Reino de Dios ha llegado a ustedes.	20 But if it is through the finger of God that I drive devils out, then the kingdom of God has indeed caughtyou unawares.
21 Cuando un hombre fuerte y bien armado hace guardia en su palacio, todas sus posesiones están seguras,	21 So long as a strong man fully armed guards his own home, his goods are undisturbed;
22 pero si viene otro más fuerte que él y lo domina, le quita el arma en la que confiaba y reparte sus bienes.	22 but when someone stronger than himself attacks and defeats him, the stronger man takes away allthe weapons he relied on and shares out his spoil.
23 El que no está conmigo, está contra mí; y el que no recoge conmigo, desparrama.	23 'Anyone who is not with me is against me; and anyone who does not gather in with me throws away.
24 Cuando el espíritu impuro sale de un hombre, vaga por lugares desiertos en busca de reposo, y al no encontrarlo, piensa: "Volveré a mi casa, de donde salí".	24 'When an unclean spirit goes out of someone it wanders through waterless country looking for aplace to rest, and not finding one it says, "I wil go back to the home I came from."
25 Cuando llega, la encuentra barrida y ordenada.	25 But on arrival, finding it swept and tidied,
26 Entonces va a buscar a otros siete espíritus peores que él; entran y se instalan allí. Y al final, ese hombre se encuentra peor que al principio».	26 it then goes off and brings seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and set uphouse there, and so that person ends up worse off than before.'
27 Cuando Jesús terminó de hablar, una mujer levantó la voz en medio de la multitud y le dijo: «¡Feliz el seno que te llevó y los pechos que te amamantaron!».	27 It happened that as he was speaking, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said, 'Blessed thewomb that bore you and the breasts that fed you!'
28 Jesús le respondió: «Felices más bien los que escuchan la Palabra de Dios y la practican».	28 But he replied, 'More blessed stil are those who hear the word of God and keep it!'
29 Al ver Jesús que la multitud se apretujaba, comenzó a decir: «Esta es una generación malvada. Pide un signo y no le será dado otro que el de Jonás.	29 The crowds got even bigger and he addressed them, 'This is an evil generation; it is asking for a sign.The only sign it wil be given is the sign of Jonah.
30 Así como Jonás fue un signo para los ninivitas, también el Hijo del hombre lo será para esta generación.	30 For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so wil the Son of man be a sign to thisgeneration.
31 El día del Juicio, la Reina del Sur se levantará contra los hombres de esta generación y los condenará, porque ella vino de los confines de la tierra para escuchar la sabiduría de Salomón y aquí hay alguien que es más que Salomón.	31 On Judgement Day the Queen of the South will stand up against the people of this generation and betheir condemnation, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, look,there is something greater than Solomon here.
32 El día del Juicio, los hombres de Nínive se levantarán contra esta generación y la condenarán, porque ellos se convirtieron por la predicación de Jonás y aquí hay alguien que es más que Jonás.	32 On Judgement Day the men of Nineveh wil appear against this generation and be its condemnation,because when Jonah preached they repented; and, look, there is something greater than Jonah here.
33 Cuando uno enciende una lámpara, no la esconde ni la cubre, sino que la pone sobre el candelero, para que los que entran vean la claridad.	33 'No one lights a lamp and puts it in some hidden place or under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand so that people may see the light when they come in.
34 La lámpara del cuerpo es tu ojo. Cuando tu ojo está sano, todo tu cuerpo está iluminado; pero si tu ojo está enfermo, también tu cuerpo estará en tinieblas.	34 The lamp of the body is your eye. When your eye is clear, your whole body, too, is fil ed with light; butwhen it is diseased your body, too, wil be darkened.
35 Ten cuidado de que la luz que hay en ti no se oscurezca.	35 See to it then that the light inside you is not darkness.
36 Si todo tu cuerpo está iluminado, sin nada de sombra, tendrá tanta luz como cuando la lámpara te ilumina con sus rayos».	36 If, therefore, your whole body is fil ed with light, and not darkened at all, it wil be light entirely, aswhen the lamp shines on you with its rays.'
37 Cuando terminó de hablar, un fariseo lo invitó a cenar a su casa. Jesús entró y se sentó a la mesa.	37 He had just finished speaking when a Pharisee invited him to dine at his house. He went in and satdown at table.
38 El fariseo extrañó de que no se lavara antes de comer.	38 The Pharisee saw this and was surprised that he had not first washed before the meal.
39 Pero el Señor le dijo: «¡Así son ustedes, los fariseos! Purifican por fuera la copa y el plato, y por dentro están llenos de voracidad y perfidia.	39 But the Lord said to him, 'You Pharisees! You clean the outside of cup and plate, while insideyourselves you are fil ed with extortion and wickedness.
40 ¡Insensatos! El que hizo lo de afuera, ¿no hizo también lo de adentro?	40 Fools! Did not he who made the outside make the inside too?
41 Den más bien como limosna lo que tienen y todo será puro.	41 Instead, give alms from what you have and, look, everything wil be clean for you.
42 Pero ¡ay de ustedes, fariseos, que pagan el impuesto de la menta, de la ruda y de todas las legumbres, y descuidan la justicia y el amor de Dios! Hay que practicar esto, sin descuidar aquello.	42 But alas for you Pharisees, because you pay your tithe of mint and rue and al sorts of garden herbsand neglect justice and the love of God! These you should have practised, without neglecting the others.
43 ¡Ay de ustedes, fariseos, porque les gusta ocupar el primer asiento en las sinagogas y ser saludados en las plazas!	43 Alas for you Pharisees, because you like to take the seats of honour in the synagogues and to begreeted respectful y in the market squares!
44 ¡Ay de ustedes, porque son como esos sepulcros que no se ven y sobre los cuales se camina sin saber!».	44 Alas for you, because you are like the unmarked tombs that people walk on without knowing it!'
45 Un doctor de la Ley tomó entonces la palabra y dijo: «Maestro, cuando hablas así, nos insultas también a nosotros».	45 A lawyer then spoke up. 'Master,' he said, 'when you speak like this you insult us too.'
46 El le respondió: «¡Ay de ustedes también, porque imponen a los demás cargas insoportables, pero ustedes no las tocan ni siquiera con un dedo!	46 But he said, 'Alas for you lawyers as wel , because you load on people burdens that are unendurable,burdens that you yourselves do not touch with your fingertips.
47 ¡Ay de ustedes, que construyen los sepulcros de los profetas, a quienes sus mismos padres han matado!	47 'Alas for you because you build tombs for the prophets, the people your ancestors kil ed!
48 Así se convierten en testigos y aprueban los actos de sus padres: ellos los mataron y ustedes les construyen sepulcros.	48 In this way you both witness to what your ancestors did and approve it; they did the killing, you do thebuilding.
49 Por eso la Sabiduría de Dios ha dicho: Yo les enviaré profetas y apóstoles: matarán y perseguirán a muchos de ellos.	49 'And that is why the Wisdom of God said, "I wil send them prophets and apostles; some they willslaughter and persecute,
50 Así se pedirá cuanta a esta generación de la sangre de todos los profetas, que ha sido derramada desde la creación del mundo:	50 so that this generation wil have to answer for every prophet's blood that has been shed since thefoundation of the world,
51 desde la sangre de Abel hasta la sangre de Zacarías, que fue asesinado entre el altar y el santuario. Sí, les aseguro que a esta generación se le pedirá cuenta de todo esto.	51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the Temple."Yes, I tel you, this generation wil have to answer for it all.
52 ¡Ay de ustedes, doctores de la Ley, porque se han apoderado de la llave de la ciencia! No han entrado ustedes, y a los que quieren entrar, se lo impiden».	52 'Alas for you lawyers who have taken away the key of knowledge! You have not gone in yourselvesand have prevented others from going in who wanted to.'
53 Cuando Jesús salió de allí, los escribas y los fariseos comenzaron a acosarlo, exigiéndole respuesta sobre muchas cosas	53 When he left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began a furious attack on him and tried to forceanswers from him on innumerable questions,
54 y tendiéndole trampas para sorprenderlo en alguna afirmación.	54 lying in wait to catch him out in something he might say.
