EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Cuando se aproximaban a Jerusalén, estando ya al pie del monte de los Olivos, cerca de Betfagé y de Betania, Jesús envió a dos de sus discípulos,	1 When they were approaching Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, close by the Mount of Olives, hesent two of his disciples
2 diciéndoles: «Vayan al pueblo que está enfrente y, al entrar, encontrarán un asno atado, que nadie ha montado todavía. Desátenlo y tráiganlo;	2 and said to them, 'Go to the vil age facing you, and as you enter it you wil at once find a tethered coltthat no one has yet ridden. Untie it and bring it here.
3 y si alguien les pregunta: «¿Qué están haciendo?», respondan: «El Señor lo necesita y lo va a devolver en seguida».	3 If anyone says to you, "What are you doing?" say, "The Master needs it and wil send it back here at once." '
4 Ellos fueron y encontraron un asno atado cerca de una puerta, en la calle, y lo desataron.	4 They went off and found a colt tethered near a door in the open street. As they untied it,
5 algunos de los que estaban allí les preguntaron: «¿Qué hacen? ¿Por qué desatan ese asno?».	5 some men standing there said, 'What are you doing, untying that colt?'
6 Ellos respondieron como Jesús les había dicho y nadie los molestó.	6 They gave the answer Jesus had told them, and the men let them go.
7 Entonces le llevaron el asno, pusieron sus mantos sobre él y Jesús se montó.	7 Then they took the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on its back, and he mounted it.
8 Muchos extendían sus mantos sobre el camino; otros, lo cubrían con ramas que cortaban en el campo.	8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others greenery which they had cut in the fields.
9 Los que iban delante y los que seguían a Jesús, gritaban: «¡Hosana! ¡Bendito el que viene en nombre del Señor!	9 And those who went in front and those who fol owed were al shouting, 'Hosanna! Blessed is he who iscoming in the name of the Lord!
10 ¡Bendito sea el Reino que ya viene, el Reino de nuestro padre David! ¡Hosana en las alturas!».	10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of David our father! Hosanna in the highest heavens!'
11 Jesús llegó a Jerusalén y fue al Templo; después de observarlo todo, como ya era tarde, salió con los Doce hacia Betania.	11 He entered Jerusalem and went into the Temple; and when he had surveyed it al , as it was late bynow, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.
12 Al día siguiente, cuando salieron de Betania, Jesús sintió hambre.	12 Next day as they were leaving Bethany, he felt hungry.
13 Al divisar de lejos una higuera cubierta de hojas, se acercó para ver si encontraba algún fruto, pero no había más que hojas; porque no era la época de los higos.	13 Seeing a fig tree in leaf some distance away, he went to see if he could find any fruit on it, but whenhe came up to it he found nothing but leaves; for it was not the season for figs.
14 Dirigiéndose a la higuera, le dijo: «Que nadie más coma de tus frutos». Y sus discípulos lo oyeron.	14 And he addressed the fig tree, 'May no one ever eat fruit from you again.' And his disciples heard himsay this.
15 Cuando llegaron a Jerusalén, Jesús entró en el Templo y comenzó a echar a los que vendían y compraban en él. Derribó las mesas de los cambistas y los puestos de los vendedores de palomas,	15 So they reached Jerusalem and he went into the Temple and began driving out the men selling andbuying there; he upset the tables of the money changers and the seats of the dove sel ers.
16 y prohibió que transportaran cargas por el Templo.	16 Nor would he allow anyone to carry anything through the Temple.
17 Y les enseñaba: «¿Acaso no está escrito: Mi Casa será llamada Casa de oración para todas las naciones? Pero ustedes la han convertido en una cueva de ladrones».	17 And he taught them and said, 'Does not scripture say: My house wil be cal ed a house of prayer for al peoples? But you have turned it into a bandits' den.'
18 Cuando se enteraron los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, buscaban la forma de matarlo, porque le tenían miedo, ya que todo el pueblo estaba maravillado de su enseñanza.	18 This came to the ears of the chief priests and the scribes, and they tried to find some way of doingaway with him; they were afraid of him because the people were carried away by his teaching.
19 Al caer la tarde, Jesús y sus discípulos salieron de la ciudad.	19 And when evening came he went out of the city.
20 A la mañana siguiente, al pasar otra vez, vieron que la higuera se había secado de raíz.	20 Next morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered to the roots.
21 Pedro, acordándose, dijo a Jesús: «Maestro, la higuera que has maldecido se ha secado».	21 Peter remembered. 'Look, Rabbi,' he said to Jesus, 'the fig tree that you cursed has withered away.'
22 Jesús respondió: «Tengan fe en Dios.	22 Jesus answered, 'Have faith in God.
23 Porque yo les aseguro que si alguien dice a esta montaña: «Retírate de ahí y arrójate al mar», sin vacilar en su interior, sino creyendo que sucederá lo que dice, lo conseguirá.	23 In truth I tel you, if anyone says to this mountain, "Be pul ed up and thrown into the sea," with nodoubt in his heart, but believing that what he says wil happen, it will be done for him.
24 Por eso les digo: Cuando pidan algo en la oración, crean que ya lo tienen y lo conseguirán.	24 I tel you, therefore, everything you ask and pray for, believe that you have it already, and it wil beyours.
25 Y cuando ustedes se pongan de pie para orar, si tienen algo en contra de alguien, perdónenlo, y el Padre que está en el cielo les perdonará también sus faltas».	25 And when you stand in prayer, forgive whatever you have against anybody, soyour Father in heavenmay forgive your failings too.'
26 (Pero si no perdonan, tampoco el Padre que está en el cielo los perdonará a ustedes)	26
27 Y llegaron de nuevo a Jerusalén. Mientras Jesús caminaba por el Templo, los sumos sacerdotes, los escribas y los ancianos se acercaron a él	27 They came to Jerusalem again, and as Jesus was walking in the Temple, the chief priests and thescribes and the elders came to him,
28 y le dijeron: «¿Con qué autoridad haces estas cosas? ¿O quién te dio autoridad para hacerlo?».	28 and they said to him, 'What authority have you for acting like this? Or who gave you authority to actlike this?'
29 Jesús les respondió: «Yo también quiero hacerles una sola pregunta. Si me responden, les diré con qué autoridad hago estas cosas.	29 Jesus said to them, 'And I will ask you a question, just one; answer me and I wil tel you my authorityfor acting like this.
30 Díganme: el bautismo de Juan, ¿venía del cielo o de los hombres?».	30 John's baptism, what was its origin, heavenly or human? Answer me that.'
31 Ellos se hacían este razonamiento: «Si contestamos: "Del cielo", él nos dirá: "¿Por qué no creyeron en él"?.	31 And they argued this way among themselves, 'If we say heavenly, he wil say, "Then why did yourefuse to believe him?"
32 ¿Diremos entonces: "De los hombres"?». Pero como temían al pueblo, porque todos consideraban que Juan había sido realmente un profeta,	32 But dare we say human?' -- they had the people to fear, for everyone held that John had been a realprophet.
33 respondieron a Jesús: «No sabemos». Y él les respondió: «Yo tampoco les diré con qué autoridad hago estas cosas».	33 So their reply to Jesus was, 'We do not know.' And Jesus said to them, 'Nor will I tell you my authorityfor acting like this.'
