Isaías 36

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 El decimocuarto año del rey Ezequías, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, subió contra todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá y se apoderó de ellas.	1 And it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Ezechias, that Sennacherib king of the Assyrians came up against all the fenced cities of Juda, and took them.
2 Desde Laquis, el rey de Asiria envió a Jerusalén, donde estaba Ezequías, al copero mayor acompañado de una fuerte escolta. Este se apostó junto al canal de la piscina superior, sobre la senda del campo del Tintorero.	2 And the king of the Assyrians sent Rabsaces from Lachis to Jerusalem, to king Ezechias with a great army, and he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the way of the fuller's held.
3 Eliaquím, hijo de Jilquías, el mayordomo de palacio, salió a su encuentro, con Sebná, el secretario, y Joaj, hijo de Asaf, el archivista.	3 And there went out to him Eliacim the son of Helcias, who was over the house, and Sobna the scribe, and Joahe the son of Asaph the recorder.
4 El copero mayor les dijo: «Digan a Ezequías: Así habla el gran rey, el rey de Asiria: ¿Qué motivo tienes para estar tan confiado?	4 And Rabsaces said to them: Tell Ezechias: Thus saith the great king, the king of the Assyrians: What is this confidence wherein thou trustest?
5 ¿Piensas que la estrategia y la valentía para el combate son cuestión de palabras? ¿En quién confías para rebelarte contra mí?	5 Or with what counsel or strength dost thou prepare for war? on whom dost thou trust, that thou art revolted from me?
6 ¡Ah, sí! Tú confías en el apoyo de esa caña quebrada, en Egipto, que perfora y atraviesa la mano de todo el que se apoya en él. Eso es el Faraón, rey de Egipto, para todos los que confían en él.	6 Lo thou trustest upon this broken staff of a reed, upon Egypt: upon which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharao king or Egypt to all that trust in him.
7 Seguramente, tú me dirás: Nosotros confiamos en el Señor, nuestro Dios. Pero ¿no fue acaso Ezequías el que suprimió todos los lugares altos y los altares dedicados a él, diciendo a la gente de Judá y de Jerusalén: «Sólo delante de este altar, ustedes deberán postrarse?».	7 But if thou wilt answer me: We trust in the Lord our God: is it not he whose high places and altars Ezechias hath taken away, and hath said to Juda and Jerusalem: You shall worship before this altar?
8 ¡Y bien! Haz una apuesta con mi señor, el rey de Asiria: ¡Yo te daré dos mil caballos, si puedes conseguir bastantes hombres para montarlos!	8 And now deliver thyself up to my lord the king of the Assyrians, and I will give thee two thousand horses, and thou wilt not be able on thy part to find riders for them.
9 ¿Cómo harías retroceder a uno solo de los más insignificantes servidores de mi Señor? Pero tú confías en Egipto para tener carros de guerra y soldados!	9 And how wilt thou stand against the face of the judge of one place, of the least of my master's servants? But if thou trust in Egypt, in chariots and in horsemen:
10 ¿Acaso he venido a arrasar este país sin el consentimiento del Señor? Fue el Señor quien me dijo: ¡Sube a ese país, y arrásalo!».	10 And am I now come up without the Lord against this land to destroy it? The Lord said to me: Go up against this land, and destroy it.
11 Eliaquím, Sebná y Joaj dijeron al copero mayor: «Por favor, háblanos en arameo, porque nosotros lo entendemos. No nos hables en hebreo, a oídas del pueblo que está sobre la muralla».	11 And Eliacim, and Sobna, and Joahe said to Rabsaces: Speak to thy servants in the Syrian tongue: for we understand it: speak not to us in the Jews' language in the hearing of the people, that are upon the wall.
12 Pero el copero mayor les replicó: «¿Acaso mi señor me envió a decir estas cosas a tu señor y a ti? ¿No estarán dirigidas a esos hombres apostados sobre la muralla, que tendrán que comer sus excrementos y beber su orina, igual que ustedes?».	12 And Rabsaces said to them: Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee, to speak all these words; and not rather to the men that sit on the wall; that they may eat their own dung, and drink their urine with you?
13 Entonces el copero mayor, puesto de pie, gritó bien fuerte en hebreo: «Escuchen las palabras del gran rey, el rey de Asiria:	13 Then Rabsaces stood, and cried out with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said: Hear the words of the great king, the king of the Assyrians.
14 Así habla el rey: Que Ezequías no los engaña, porque él no podrá librarlos.	14 Thus saith the king: Let not Ezechias deceive you, for he shall not be able to deliver you.
15 Y que Ezequías no los induzca a confiar en el Señor, diciendo: Seguramente el Señor nos librará, y esta ciudad no caerá en manos del rey de Asiria.	15 And let not Ezechias make you trust in the Lord, saying: The Lord will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hands of the king of the Assyrians.
16 No le hagan caso a Ezequías, porque así habla el rey de Asiria: Hagan las paces conmigo y ríndanse. Así cada uno de ustedes comerá los frutos de su viña y de su higuera, y beberá el agua de su pozo,	16 Do not hearken to Ezechias: for thus said the king of the Assyrians: Do with me that which is for your advantage, and come out to me, and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his dg tree, and drink ye every one the water of his cistern,
17 hasta que venga yo y los lleve a un país como el de ustedes, un país de trigo y vino nuevo, un país de pan y viñedos.	17 Till I come and take you away to a land, like to your own, a land of corn and of wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
18 Que Ezequías no los seduzca, diciendo: El Señor nos librará. ¿Acaso los dioses de las naciones han librado a sus países de las manos del rey de Asiria?	18 Neither let Ezechias trouble you, saying: The Lord will deliver us. Have any of the gods of the nations delivered their land out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians?
19 ¿Dónde están los dioses de Jamat y de Arpad? ¿Dónde están los dioses de Sefarvaim? ¿ Donde los dioses del país de Samaría? ¿Han librado de mi mano a Samaría?	19 Where is the god of Emath and of Arphad? where is the god of Sepharvaim? have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
20 Entre todos los dioses de esos países, ¿hubo alguno que librara de mi mano a su propio país, para que el Señor libre de mi mano a Jerusalén?	20 Who is there among all the gods of these lands, that hath delivered his country out of my hand, that the Lord may deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
21 Ellos guardaron silencio y no les respondieron ni una sola palabra, porque esta era la orden del rey: «No le respondan nada».	21 And they held their peace, and answered him not a word. For the king had commanded, saying: answer him not.
22 Eliaquím, hijo de Jilquías, el mayordomo de palacio, Sebná, el secretario, y Joaj, hijo de Asaf, el archivista, se presentaron ante Ezequías con sus vestiduras desgarradas, y lo informaron de las palabras del copero mayor.	22 And Eliacim the son of Helcias, that was over the house, and Sobna the scribe, and Joahe the son of Asaph the recorder, went in to Ezechias with their garments rent, and told him the words of Rabsaces.
