1 Queridos, no os fiéis de cualquier espíritu, sino examinad si los espíritus vienen de Dios, pues muchos falsos profetas han salido al mundo.	1 Dearly beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits if they be of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Podréis conocer en esto el espíritu de Dios: todo espíritu que confiesa a Jesucristo, venido en carne, es de Dios;	2 By this is the spirit of God known. Every spirit which confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of God:
3 y todo espíritu que no confiesa a Jesús, no es de Dios; ese es el del Anticristo. El cual habéis oído que iba a venir; pues bien, ya está en el mundo.	3 And every spirit that dissolveth Jesus, is not of God: and this is Antichrist, of whom you have heard that he cometh, and he is now already in the world.
4 Vosotros, hijos míos, sois de Dios y los habéis vencido. Pues el que está en vosotros es más que el que está en el mundo.	4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome him. Because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 Ellos son del mundo; por eso hablan según el mundo y el mundo los escucha.	5 They are of the world: therefore of the world they speak, and the world heareth them.
6 Nosotros somos de Dios. Quien conoce a Dios nos escucha, quien no es de Dios no nos escucha. En esto conocemos el espíritu de la verdad y el espíritu del error.	6 We are of God. He that knoweth God, heareth us. He that is not of God, heareth us not. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
7 Queridos, amémonos unos a otros, ya que el amor es de Dios, y todo el que ama ha nacido de Dios y conoce a Dios.	7 Dearly beloved, let us love one another, for charity is of God. And every one that loveth, is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 Quien no ama no ha conocido a Dios, porque Dios es Amor.	8 He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is charity.
9 En esto se manifestó el amor que Dios nos tiene; en que Dios envió al mundo a su Hijo único para que vivamos por medio de él.	9 By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we may live by him.
10 En esto consiste el amor: no en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino en que él nos amó y nos envió a su Hijo como propiciación por nuestros pecados.	10 In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins.
11 Queridos, si Dios nos amó de esta manera, también nosotros debemos amarnos unos a otros.	11 My dearest, if God hath so loved us; we also ought to love one another.
12 A Dios nadie le ha visto nunca. Si nos amamos unos a otros, Dios permanece en nosotros y su amor ha llegado en nosotros a su plenitud.	12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abideth in us, and his charity is perfected in us.
13 En esto conocemos que permanecemos en él y él en nosotros: en que nos ha dado de su Espíritu.	13 In this we know that we abide in him, and he in us: because he hath given us of his spirit.
14 Y nosotros hemos visto y damos testimonio de que el Padre envió a su Hijo, como Salvador del mundo.	14 And we have seen, and do testify, that the Father hath sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Quien confiese que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, Dios permanece em él y él en Dios.	15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God.
16 Y nosotros hemos conocido el amor que Dios nos tiene, y hemos creído en él. Dios es Amor y quien permanece en el amor permanece en Dios y Dios en él.	16 And we have known, and have believed the charity, which God hath to us. God is charity: and he that abideth in charity, abideth in God, and God in him.
17 En esto ha llegado el amor a su plenitud con nosotros: en que tengamos confianza en el día del Juicio, pues como él es, así somos nosotros en este mundo.	17 In this is the charity of God perfected with us, that we may have confidence in the day of judgment: because as he is, we also are in this world.
18 No hay temor en el amor; sino que el amor perfecto expulsa el temor, porque el temor mira el castigo;	18 Fear is not in charity: but perfect charity casteth out fear, because fear hath pain. And he that feareth, is not perfected in charity.
19 quien teme no ha llegado a la plenitud en el amor. Nosotros amemos, porque él nos amó primero.	19 Let us therefore love God, because God first hath loved us.
20 Si alguno dice: «Amo a Dios», y aborrece a su hermano, es un mentiroso; pues quien no ama a su hermano, a quien ve, no puede amar a Dios a quien no ve.	20 If any man say, I love God, and hateth his brother; he is a liar. For he that loveth not his brother, whom he seeth, how can he love God, whom he seeth not?
21 Y hemos recibido de él este mandamiento: quien ama a Dios, ame también a su hermano.	21 And this commandment we have from God, that he, who loveth God, love also his brother.
