Hechos de los Apóstoles 24

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Cinco días después bajó el Sumo Sacerdote Ananías con algunos ancianos y un tal Tértulo, abogado, y presentaron ante el procurador acusación contra Pablo.	1 Five days later the high priest Ananias came down with some of the elders and an advocate namedTertul us, and they laid information against Paul before the governor.
2 Citado Pablo, Tértulo dio principio a la acusación diciendo: «Gracias a ti gozamos de mucha paz y las mejoras realizadas por tu providencia en beneficio de esta nación,	2 Paul was called, and Tertullus opened for the prosecution, 'Your Excel ency, Felix, the unbroken peacewe enjoy and the reforms this nation owes to your foresight
3 en todo y siempre las reconocemos, excelentísimo Félix, con todo agradecimiento.	3 are matters we accept, always and everywhere, with al gratitude.
4 Pero para no molestarte más, te ruego que nos escuches un momento con tu característica clemencia.	4 I do not want to take up too much of your time, but I urge you in your graciousness to give us a briefhearing.
5 Hemos encontrado esta peste de hombre que provoca altercados entre los judíos de toda la tierra y que es el jefe principal de la secta de los nazoreos.	5 We have found this man a perfect pest; he stirs up trouble among Jews the world over and is aringleader of the Nazarene sect.
6 Ha intentado además profanar el Templo, pero nosotros le apresamos.	6 He has even attempted to profane the Temple. We placed him under arrest.
	7 'I know that you have administered justice over this nation for many years, and I can therefore speakwith confidence in my defence.
8 Interrogándole, podrás tú llegar a conocer a fondo todas estas cosas de que le acusamos».	8 If you ask him you can find out for yourself the truth of al our accusations against this man.'
9 Los judíos le apoyaron, afirmando que las cosas eran así.	9 The Jews supported him, asserting that these were the facts.
10 Entonces el procurador concedió la palabra a Pablo y éste respondió: «Yo sé que desde hace muchos años vienes juzgando a esta nación; por eso con toda confianza voy a exponer mi defensa.	10 When the governor motioned him to speak, Paul answered:
11 Tú mismo lo puedes comprobar: No hace más de doce días que yo subí a Jerusalén en peregrinación.	11 As you can verify for yourself, it is no more than twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem onpilgrimage,
12 Y ni en el Templo, ni en las sinagogas ni por la ciudad me han encontrado discutiendo con nadie ni alborotando a la gente.	12 and it is not true that they ever found me arguing with anyone or stirring up the mob, either in theTemple, in the synagogues, or about the town;
13 Ni pueden tampoco probarte las cosas de que ahora me acusan.	13 neither can they give you any proof of the accusations they are making against me now.
14 «En cambio te confieso que según el Camino, que ellos llaman secta, doy culto al Dios de mis padres, creo en todo lo que se encuentra en la Ley y está escrito en los Profetas	14 'What I do admit to you is this: it is according to the Way, which they describe as a sect, that I worshipthe God of my ancestors, retaining my belief in al points of the Law and in what is written in the prophets;
15 y tengo en Dios la misma esperanza que éstos tienen, de que habrá una resurrección, tanto de los justos como de los pecadores.	15 and I hold the same hope in God as they do that there will be a resurrection of the upright and thewicked alike.
16 Por eso yo también me esfuerzo por tener constantemente una conciencia limpia ante Dios y ante los hombres.	16 In these things, I, as much as they, do my best to keep a clear conscience at al times before God andeveryone.
17 «Al cabo de muchos años he venido a traer limosnas a los de mi nación y a presentar ofrendas.	17 'After several years I came to bring relief-money to my nation and to make offerings;
18 Y me encontraron realizando estas ofrendas en el Templo después de haberme purificado, y no entre tumulto de gente.	18 it was in connection with these that they found me in the Temple; I had been purified, and there wasno crowd involved, and no disturbance.
19 Y fueron algunos judíos de Asia... - que son los que debieran presentarse ante ti y acusarme si es que tienen algo contra mí;	19 But some Jews from Asia -- these are the ones who should have appeared before you and accusedme of whatever they had against me.
20 o si no, que digan estos mismos qué crimen hallaron en mí cuando comparecí ante el Sanedrín,	20 At least let those who are present say what crime they held against me when I stood before theSanhedrin,
21 a no ser este solo grito que yo lancé estando en medio de ellos: “Yo soy juzgado hoy por vosotros a causa de la resurrección de los muertos».	21 unless it were to do with this single claim, when I stood up among them and cal ed out, "It is about theresurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today." '
22 Félix, que estaba bien informado en lo referente al Camino, les dio largas diciendo: «Cuando baje el tribuno Lisias decidiré vuestro asunto».	22 At this, Felix, who was fairly well informed about the Way, adjourned the case, saying, 'When Lysiasthe tribune comes down I will give judgement about your case.'
23 Y ordenó al centurión que custodiase a Pablo, que le dejase tener alguna libertad y que no impidiese a ninguno de los suyos el asistirle.	23 He then gave orders to the centurion that Paul should be kept under arrest but free from restriction,and that none of his own people should be prevented from seeing to his needs.
24 Después de unos días vino Félix con su esposa Drusila, que era judía; mandó traer a Pablo y le estuvo escuchando acerca de la fe en Cristo Jesús.	24 Some days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla who was a Jewess. He sent for Paul and gave him ahearing on the subject of faith in Christ Jesus.
25 Y al hablarle Pablo de la justicia, del dominio propio y del juicio futuro, Félix, aterrorizado, le interrumpió: «Por ahora puedes marcharte; cuando encuentre oportunidad te haré llamar».	25 But when Paul began to treat of uprightness, self-control and the coming Judgement, Felix took frightand said, 'You may go for the present; I wil send for you when I find it convenient.'
26 Esperaba al mismo tiempo Félix que Pablo le diese dinero; por eso frecuentemente le mandaba a buscar y conversaba con él.	26 At the same time he had hopes of receiving money from Paul, and for this reason he sent for himfrequently and had talks with him.
27 Pasados dos años Félix recibió como sucesor a Porcio Festo; y queriendo congraciarse con los judíos, dejó a Pablo prisionero.	27 When two years came to an end, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus and, being anxious to gainfavour with the Jews, Felix left Paul in custody.
