Hechos de los Apóstoles 11

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Los apóstoles y los hermanos que había por Judea oyeron que también los gentiles habían aceptado la Palabra de Dios;	1 The apostles and the brothers in Judaea heard that gentiles too had accepted the word of God,
2 así que cuando Pedro subió a Jerusalén, los de la circuncisión se lo reprochaban,	2 and when Peter came up to Jerusalem the circumcised believers protested to him
3 diciéndole: «Has entrado en casa de incircuncisos y has comido con ellos».	3 and said, 'So you have been visiting the uncircumcised and eating with them!'
4 Pedro entonces se puso a explicarles punto por punto diciendo:	4 Peter in reply gave them the details point by point,
5 «Estaba yo en oración en la ciudad de Joppe y en éxtasis vi una visión: una cosa así como un lienzo, atado por las cuatro puntas, que bajaba del cielo y llegó hasta mí.	5 'One day, when I was in the town of Jaffa,' he began, 'I fell into a trance as I was praying and had avision of something like a big sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners. This sheet came right downbeside me.
6 Lo miré atentamente y vi en él los cuadrúpedos de la tierra, las bestias, los reptiles, y las aves del cielo.	6 I looked careful y into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds ofheaven.
7 Oí también una voz que me decía: “Pedro, levántate, sacrifica y come.”	7 Then I heard a voice that said to me, "Now, Peter, kill and eat!"
8 Y respondí: “De ninguna manera, Señor; pues jamás entró en mi boca nada profano ni impuro.”	8 But I answered, "Certainly not, Lord; nothing profane or unclean has ever crossed my lips."
9 Me dijo por segunda vez la voz venida del cielo: “Lo que Dios ha purificado no lo llames tú profano.”	9 And a second time the voice spoke from heaven, "What God has made clean, you have no right to callprofane."
10 Esto se repitió hasta tres veces; y al fin fue retirado todo de nuevo al cielo.	10 This was repeated three times, before the whole of it was drawn up to heaven again.
11 «En aquel momento se presentaron tres hombres en la casa donde nosotros estábamos, enviados a mí desde Cesarea.	11 'Just at that moment, three men stopped outside the house where we were staying; they had beensent from Caesarea to fetch me,
12 El Espíritu me dijo que fuera con ellos sin dudar. Fueron también conmigo estos seis hermanos, y entramos en la casa de aquel hombre.	12 and the Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going back with them. The six brothers here camewith me as wel , and we entered the man's house.
13 El nos contó cómo había visto un ángel que se presentó en su casa y le dijo: “Manda a buscar en Joppe a Simón, llamado Pedro,	13 He told us he had seen an angel standing in his house who said, "Send to Jaffa and fetch Simonknown as Peter;
14 quien te dirá palabras que traerán la salvación para ti y para toda tu casa.”	14 he has a message for you that wil save you and your entire household."
15 «Había empezado yo a hablar cuando cayó sobre ellos el Espíritu Santo, como al principio había caído sobre nosotros.	15 'I had scarcely begun to speak when the Holy Spirit came down on them in the same way as it cameon us at the beginning,
16 Me acordé entonces de aquellas palabras que dijo el Señor: Juan bautizó con agua, pero vosotros seréis bautizados con el Espíritu Santo.	16 and I remembered that the Lord had said, "John baptised with water, but you will be baptised with theHoly Spirit."
17 Por tanto, si Dios les ha concedido el mismo don que a nosotros, por haber creído en el Señor Jesucristo, ¿quién era yo para poner obstáculos a Dios?»	17 I realised then that God was giving them the identical gift he gave to us when we believed in the LordJesus Christ; and who was I to stand in God's way?'
18 Al oír esto se tranquilizaron y glorificaron a Dios diciendo: «Así pues, también a los gentiles les ha dado Dios la conversión que lleva a la vida».	18 This account satisfied them, and they gave glory to God, saying, 'God has clearly granted to thegentiles too the repentance that leads to life.'
19 Los que se habían dispersado cuando la tribulación originada a la muerte de Esteban, llegaron en su recorrido hasta Fenicia, Chipre y Antioquía, sin predicar la Palabra a nadie más que a los judíos.	19 Those who had scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen travel ed as far asPhoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, but they proclaimed the message only to Jews.
20 Pero había entre ellos algunos chipriotas y cirenenses que, venidos a Antioquía, hablaban también a los griegos y les anunciaban la Buena Nueva del Señor Jesús.	20 Some of them, however, who came from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch where they startedpreaching also to the Greeks, proclaiming the good news of the Lord Jesus to them.
21 La mano del Señor estaba con ellos, y un crecido número recibió la fe y se convirtió al Señor.	21 The Lord helped them, and a great number believed and were converted to the Lord.
22 La noticia de esto llegó a oídos de la Iglesia de Jerusalén y enviaron a Bernabé a Antioquía.	22 The news of them came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem and they sent Barnabas out toAntioch.
23 Cuando llegó y vio la gracia de Dios se alegró y exhortaba a todos a permanecer, con corazón firme, unidos al Señor,	23 There he was glad to see for himself that God had given grace, and he urged them all to remainfaithful to the Lord with heartfelt devotion;
24 porque era un hombre bueno, lleno de Espíritu Santo y de fe. Y una considerable multitud se agregó al Señor.	24 for he was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith. And a large number of people werewon over to the Lord.
25 Partió para Tarso en busca de Saulo,	25 Barnabas then left for Tarsus to look for Saul,
26 y en cuanto le encontró, le llevó a Antioquía. Estuvieron juntos durante un año entero en la Iglesia y adoctrinaron a una gran muchedumbre. En Antioquía fue donde, por primera vez, los discípulos recibieron el nombre de «cristianos».	26 and when he found him he brought him to Antioch. And it happened that they stayed together in thatchurch a whole year, instructing a large number of people. It was at Antioch that the disciples were first cal ed'Christians'.
27 Por aquellos días bajaron unos profetas de Jerusalén a Antioquía.	27 While they were there some prophets came down to Antioch from Jerusalem,
28 Uno de ellos, llamado Agabo, movido por el Espíritu, se levantó y profetizó que vendría una gran hambre sobre toda la tierrra, la que hubo en tiempo de Claudio.	28 and one of them whose name was Agabus, seized by the Spirit, stood up and predicted that a severeand universal famine was going to happen. This in fact happened while Claudius was emperor.
29 Los discípulos determinaron enviar algunos recursos, según las posibilidades de cada uno, para los hermanos que vivían en Judea.	29 The disciples decided to send relief, each to contribute what he could afford, to the brothers living inJudaea.
30 Así lo hicieron y se los enviaron a los presbíteros por medio de Bernabé y de Saulo.	30 They did this and delivered their contributions to the elders through the agency of Barnabas and Saul.
