Prima Epistola di San Pietro Apostolo 2

1 Lasciando adunque tutta la malizia e tutto l'inganno, e infingimenti e invidie, e tutti i tradimenti,	1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2 sì come fanciulii, e di fresco generati, ragionevoli senza inganno, il latte desiderate, acciò che con esso cresciate in salvazione.	2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
3 Impertanto se voi assaggiate come è dolce il Signore;	3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 al quale, pietra viva, approssimandovi, dalli uomini veramente rifiutata, ma da Iddio eletta e glorificata,	4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5 e voi medesimi, sì come vive pietre, siate di sopra edificati, in casa spirituale, sacerdozio santo, a offerire spirituali offerte (perfette), piacevoli a Iddio per Iesù Cristo.	5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Per la quale cosa dice la Scrittura: ecco ch' io ponerò in Sion la pietra, sopra una cantonata, eletta, preziosa; e ogni uomo il quale crederà in lei, non avvergognarà.	6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Dunque a voi sarà onore, che credete; ma a quelli che non credono, sarà la pietra la quale rifiutarono gli edificatori, questa (fu) fatta in capo del cantone.	7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8 E sarà la pietra di offensione, e pietra di scandalo a quelli che offendono alla parola, non credendo in quello dove loro son posti.	8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
9 Ma voi siete generazione eletta, sacerdozio reale, gente santa, popolo di guadagno, acciò che annunziate le virtù di colui il quale v' ha chiamati dalle tenebre nel suo maraviglioso lume	9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10 Li quali avanti (Pietro) non eravate popolo (di Dio), ma adesso [siete] popolo di Dio; li quali non avevate seguita la misericordia, ma ora avete seguita la misericordia.	10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11 Carissimi, io prego voi, sì come avventizii e peregrini, che v' asteniate da' carnali desiderii, li quali cavalcano incontro all' anima.	11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
12 La conversazione vostra intra le genti abbiate buona, acciò che in quello che trattano di voi, sì come di malfattori, considerando voi di buone opere, glorifichino Iddio nel dì della visitazione.	12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
13 Siate sottoposti a tutta la umana creatura per Iddio; alli re, si come a signoreggiatori;	13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
14 o [alli] duchi, sì come mandati da lui a vendetta de' malfattori, e a laude de' buoni.	14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
15 Però che così è la volontà di Dio, che voi facendo bene, facciate tacere la ignoranza de' non savii uomini;	15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
16 sì come franchi, e non si come quelli che hanno la franchità coperta di malizia, ma sì come servi di Dio.	16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
17 Tutti onorate; la fratellanza amate; Iddio temete; lo re onorate.	17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
18 Servi, siate sottoposti alli signori con ogni timore; non solamente alli buoni e alli temperati, ma [ancora] alli non ammaestrati.	18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
19 Imperò che questa è grazia, se per la conscienza di Dio alcuno sostiene tristizia, patendola non giustamente.	19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
20 Che gloria è quella se voi, peccando, schiaffeggiati sofferite? ma se voi, facendo bene, umilmente sostenete (però), questa è grazia appo Iddio.	20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
21 Chè in questo siete voi chiamati; chè Cristo fu passionato per voi, lasciando a voi esempio acciò che seguitate li suoi andamenti.	21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
22 Il quale non fece peccato, e nella sua bocca non fu trovato inganno.	22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23 Il quale, quando era maledetto, non maledicea; e quando pativa, non minacciava; ma davasi [a] colui che il giudicava a torto.	23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
24 Il quale le nostre peccata sostenne nel corpo suo sopra il legno, perchè siamo morti alli peccati e viviamo alla giustizia; per la passione del quale noi siamo sanati.	24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
25 Però che voi eravate (da qui indietro) sì come pecore erranti; ma ora siete convertiti al pastore e al vescovo delle vostre anime.	25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
