Epistola di Santo Paulo alli Ebrei 12

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E imperò che noi avemo tanta imposta nube di testimonianza, ponendo noi ogni pondo [e] il peccato che sta intorno a noi, per la pazienza corriamo alla battaglia ch' è ordinata a noi,	1 With so many witnesses in a great cloud all around us, we too, then, should throw off everything thatweighs us down and the sin that clings so closely, and with perseverance keep running in the race which liesahead of us.
2 riguardando nell' autore della fede e nel redentore Iesù, il quale con allegrezza posta dinanzi da sè, sostenne la (passione della) croce, dispregiata la vergogna, e siede nella sedia dalla parte dritta di Dio.	2 Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, who leads us in our faith and brings it to perfection: for the sakeof the joy which lay ahead of him, he endured the cross, disregarding the shame of it, and has taken his seat atthe right of God's throne.
3 Adunque arricordatevi di colui che sostenne tale contraddizione incontro a sè medesimo da' peccatori, acciò che voi non vi stanchiate, e non vegniate meno (troppo tosto) nelle vostre tribulazioni.	3 Think of the way he persevered against such opposition from sinners and then you will not lose heartand come to grief.
4 Chè ancora non combatteste insino al sangue, contra il peccato resistendo.	4 In the fight against sin, you have not yet had to keep fighting to the point of bloodshed.
5 E siete dimenticati della consolazione, la qual parla a voi, sì come a figliuoli, dicendo così: figliuolo mio, non dimenticare la disciplina (l' ammaestramento) del Signore, e non ti stancare mentre che tu sarai ripreso da lui.	5 Have you forgotten that encouraging text in which you are addressed as sons? My son, do not scorncorrection from the Lord, do not resent his training,
6 Imperò che Dio castiga colui il quale egli ama; e flagella (e batte) ogni figliuolo ch' egli riceve.	6 for the Lord trains those he loves, and chastises every son he accepts.
7 E perseverate in disciplina. Chè Dio offerisce sè medesimo a voi, come a figliuoli; e qual figliuolo è quello, che il padre non lo riprenda?	7 Perseverance is part of your training; God is treating you as his sons. Has there ever been any sonwhose father did not train him?
8 Ma se voi siete fuori del castigamento, del qual son partefici tutti (quelli che son figliuoli), adunque non siete voi figliuoli (maternali), ma adulteri.	8 If you were not getting this training, as all of you are, then you would be not sons but bastards.
9 Veramente noi avemmo padri ammaestratori, secondo la carne, li quali noi avemmo in grande reverenza; or molto maggiormente dovemo obbedire (e onorare) il Padre spirituale, e viveremo in lui.	9 Besides, we have all had our human fathers who punished us, and we respected them for it; al themore readily ought we to submit to the Father of spirits, and so earn life.
10 Nel tempo di pochi giorni, quelli ammaestravano noi secondo la sua volontà; ma questo, cosa ch' è utile, ne insegna di ricevere la sua santificazione.	10 Our human fathers were training us for a short life and according to their own lights; but he does it al for our own good, so that we may share his own holiness.
11 Veramente ogni castigamento, in questo presente secolo, non pare che sia cosa di allegrezza, anzi di tristizia; ma poi rende frutto di giustizia e di grande pace a coloro che s'argomentano per questa cosa.	11 Of course, any discipline is at the time a matter for grief, not joy; but later, in those who haveundergone it, it bears fruit in peace and uprightness.
12 Per la qual cosa rizzate le mani pigre, e levate le ginocchia.	12 So steady al weary hands and trembling knees
13 E fate dritti andamenti con li vostri piedi, chè niuno erri (nella via) zoppicando, ma piuttosto sia sanato.	13 and make your crooked paths straight; then the injured limb wil not be maimed, it wil get betterinstead.
14 Seguitate la pace con tutte genti con santimonia, senza la quale niuna persona vederà Dio;	14 Seek peace with al people, and the holiness without which no one can ever see the Lord.
15 guardando che niuno venga meno alla grazia di Dio, e che niuna radice di amaritudine non impedisca germinando fuori, e che per quella non si guastino molti.	15 Be careful that no one is deprived of the grace of God and that no root of bitterness should begin togrow and make trouble; this can poison a large number.
16 E niuno di noi sia fornicatore, nè ghiotto come fue Esau, il quale vendette per uno mangiare li suoi onori.	16 And be careful that there is no immoral person, or anyone worldly minded like Esau, who sold hisbirthright for one single meal.
17 E sappiate che poi questo Esaù desiderò di avere la benedizione per ereditare, e (dimandandola con lacrime, non di meno) sì fu riprovato (e rifiutato); e non trovò luogo di penitenza, avvegna che la domandasse piangendo.	17 As you know, when he wanted to obtain the blessing afterwards, he was rejected and, though hepleaded for it with tears, he could find no way of reversing the decision.
18 Chè per certo voi non vi appressaste al trattabile [monte] e all' accendevole fuoco, e alla turbine e alla caligine (di scurità) e alla tempesta,	18 What you have come to is nothing known to the senses: not a blazing fire, or gloom or totaldarkness, or a storm;
19 e al suono della tuba e alla voce di parole, la qual quelli che l'udirono, si scusarono che non fosse fatta a sè (nel tempo di Moisè, quando Dio apparve con queste cose che dette sono in sul monte. per dare la legge; e però si scusarono di non udire quella voce).	19 or trumpet-blast or the sound of a voice speaking which made everyone that heard it beg that nomore should be said to them.
20 Perchè non poteano sostenere d' udire quel detto (ed era con comandamento), che se niuna bestia toccasse quel monte, ch' ella fusse lapidata.	20 They could not bear the order that was given: If even a beast touches the mountain, it must bestoned.
21 E così era terribile quello che si vedea (e cioè che si dicea), che Moisè disse: io son spaventato e timoroso.	21 The whole scene was so terrible that Moses said, 'I am afraid and trembling.'
22 Ma ora siete avvicinati al monte di Sion, e alla città di Dio vivente e celestiale Ierusalem, e alla frequentazione di molte migliaia di angioli,	22 But what you have come to is Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalemwhere the mil ions of angels have gathered for the festival,
23 e alla Chiesa de' primai, li quali son insieme. scritti in cielo, e a Dio giudice di tutti, e al spirito de' giusti e de' perfetti,	23 with the whole Church of first-born sons, enrolled as citizens of heaven. You have come to Godhimself, the supreme Judge, and to the spirits of the upright who have been made perfect;
24 e a Iesù tramezzatore del nuovo testamento, e allo spargimento del sangue meglio parlante che Abel.	24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to purifying blood which pleads more insistentlythan Abel's.
25 Guardate che voi non rifiutate il ben parlante a voi. Chè se quelli che refiutorono quello che parlava sopra la terra, non scamparono; molto maggiormente non scamparemo noi, se non intenderemo colui che parla a noi del cielo.	25 Make sure that you never refuse to listen when he speaks. If the people who on earth refused tolisten to a warning could not escape their punishment, how shal we possibly escape if we turn away from avoice that warns us from heaven?
26 La voce del quale movette la terra a quell'ora; e ora impromette e dice: ancora una volta, e moverò non solamente la terra, ma eziandio il cielo.	26 That time his voice made the earth shake, but now he has given us this promise: I am going to shakethe earth once more and not only the earth but heaven as wel .
27 In quel che dice: ANCORA UNA VOLTA Si dichiara a noi il transportamento delle cose mobili, sì come di fatti, chè permagnino quelle cose che non son mobili.	27 The words once more indicate the removal of what is shaken, since these are created things, so thatwhat is not shaken remains.
28 Adunque recevendo noi il regno fermo, abbiamo grazia, per la quale serviamo piacendo a Dio con paura e con reverenza.	28 We have been given possession of an unshakeable kingdom. Let us therefore be grateful and useour gratitude to worship God in the way that pleases him, in reverence and fear.
29 Chè il nostro Dio è fuoco che consuma.	29 For our God is a consuming fire.
