BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Fratelli miei, da ora inanzi rallegratevi in Dio; chè a me non è pigrizia di scrivere a voi queste cose, le quali son necessarie.	1 Finally, brothers, I wish you joy in the Lord. To write to you what I have already written before is notrouble to me and to you will be a protection.
2 Vedete li cani, vedete li malvagi operatori, come vi vogliono seducere alla circoncisione.	2 Beware of dogs! Beware of evil workmen! Beware of self-mutilators!
3 Chè noi siamo bene circoncisi, quando noi serviame a Dio con spirito, e allegriamoci in Cristo Iesu, non abbiendo speranza nella (circoncisione della) carne.	3 We are the true people of the circumcision since we worship by the Spirit of God and make Christ Jesusour only boast, not relying on physical qualifications,
4 E certo, se niuno si confida in circoncisione di carne, molto maggiormente io,	4 although, I myself could rely on these too. If anyone does claim to rely on them, my claim is better.
5 che fui circonciso l'ottavo dì (che io fui nato), chè io son di generazione d'Israel, e di tribù di Beniamin, e son ebreo nato degli ebrei; e secondo la legge fui Fariseo.	5 Circumcised on the eighth day of my life, I was born of the race of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, aHebrew born of Hebrew parents. In the matter of the Law, I was a Pharisee;
6 E secondo l'amore della legge fui persecutore della legge di Dio; e secondo la giustizia, la qual è nella legge, io conversai senza richiamo (e senza alcuno falso).	6 as for religious fervour, I was a persecutor of the Church; as for the uprightness embodied in the Law, Iwas faultless.
7 Ma quelle cose le quali mi parea che mi fossero buone, tutte mi penso che mi fossero danno per amore di Cristo.	7 But what were once my assets I now through Christ Jesus count as losses.
8 E certo tutte le tengo in dannazione, per la grande scienza del mio Signore Iesù Cristo; per amor del quale tutte le cose tengo come fango puzzolente, acciò che possa guadagnare Cristo,	8 Yes, I wil go further: because of the supreme advantage of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, I counteverything else as loss. For him I have accepted the loss of al other things, and look on them all as filth if only Ican gain Christ
9 e perchè io sia trovato in lui tale, ch' io non abbia questa giustizia in me la quale è nella legge, ma quella ch' è per la fede di Iesù Cristo; la qual è da Dio giustizia in fede,	9 and be given a place in him, with the uprightness I have gained not from the Law, but through faith inChrist, an uprightness from God, based on faith,
10 a conoscere lui, e conoscere la virtù della resurrezione di Iesù Cristo, e la compagnia della sua passione, la qual è affigurata nella sua morte;	10 that I may come to know him and the power of his resurrection, and partake of his sufferings by beingmoulded to the pattern of his death,
11 se per alcuna guisa io potessi venire alla resurrezione, per la qual resuscita altri della morte;	11 striving towards the goal of resurrection from the dead.
12 non perchè io abbia ancora compreso, o perchè io sia ancora perfetto; ma vo dopo essa, se per alcuna guisa io potessi comprendere quello ch' io son già compreso di Iesù Cristo.	12 Not that I have secured it already, nor yet reached my goal, but I am stil pursuing it in the attempt totake hold of the prize for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
13 Fratelli, io non mi penso di avere compreso ancora (una cosa); ma quelle cose, le quali son passate in qua dietro, dimenticando, ed estendendomi a quelle cose che son inanzi,	13 Brothers, I do not reckon myself as having taken hold of it; I can only say that forgetting al that liesbehind me, and straining forward to what lies in front,
14 io corro all' impromesso palio della soprana vocazione di Dio (la quale è fatta) in Iesù Cristo.	14 I am racing towards the finishing-point to win the prize of God's heavenly call in Christ Jesus.
15 Adunque quanto più siamo perfetti, questo sentiamo, e se alcuna altra cosa voi conoscete, la qual Dio vi rivelasse.	15 So this is the way in which al of us who are mature should be thinking, and if you are still thinkingdifferently in any way, then God has yet to make this matter clear to you.
16 Certo imperò perveniamo a quello, perchè noi sentiamo quella cosa, e in una medesima gloria permaniamo.	16 Meanwhile, let us go forward from the point we have each attained.
17 Fratelli (carissimi), andate dopo me, e guardate quelli che vanno, secondo che voi avete la nostra forma.	17 Brothers, be united in imitating me. Keep your eyes fixed on those who act according to the exampleyou have from me.
18 Chè molti ne vanno male, de' quali spesse volte io vel dicea, e ancora io vi dico piangendo, (imperò) che son nemici della croce di Cristo.	18 For there are so many people of whom I have often warned you, and now I warn you again with tearsin my eyes, who behave like the enemies of Christ's cross.
19 La fine delli quali si è perdizione; delli quali il ventre [è Dio]; e la gloria di coloro è in vergogna (mutata), li quali amano pure le terrene cose.	19 They are destined to be lost; their god is the stomach; they glory in what they should think shameful,since their minds are set on earthly things.
20 Ma la nostra conversazione sì è in cielo; del qual luogo noi aspettiamo il Salvatore, nostro Signore, Iesù Cristo.	20 But our homeland is in heaven and it is from there that we are expecting a Saviour, the Lord JesusChrist,
21 Il qual riformerà il corpo della nostra umiltà, assimigliato al corpo della sua chiarezza, secondo l'operazione sua, per la qual possa sottomettere a sè tutte le cose.	21 who wil transfigure the wretched body of ours into the mould of his glorious body, through the workingof the power which he has, even to bring all things under his mastery.
