1 Fratelli, quando io venni a voi, non venni in altezza di parole nè di sapienza, a voi annunziando il testimonio di Cristo.	1 Now when I came to you, brothers, I did not come with any brilliance of oratory or wise argument toannounce to you the mystery of God.
2 Non giudicai me sapere niente intra voi, se non Cristo Iesù, e questo crucifisso.	2 I was resolved that the only knowledge I would have while I was with you was knowledge of Jesus, andof him as the crucified Christ.
3 E io dopo voi stetti in grande timore e tremore e infirmità.	3 I came among you in weakness, in fear and great trembling
4 E la mia parola e la mia predicazione non fu in altezza nè in grande sottilezza di parole nè di sapienza umana, ma fu in dimostramento di spirito e di virtù;	4 and what I spoke and proclaimed was not meant to convince by philosophical argument, but todemonstrate the convincing power of the Spirit,
5 perchè la vostra fede non sia in saviezza alli uomini, ma sia in virtù di Dio.	5 so that your faith should depend not on human wisdom but on the power of God.
6 Chè noi parliamo la saviezza (e le sottili cose) intra coloro che son perfetti; ma non saviezza di questo secolo, nè quella de' principi di questo mondo, i quali saranno distrutti.	6 But stil , to those who have reached maturity, we do talk of a wisdom, not, it is true, a philosophy of thisage or of the rulers of this age, who will not last long now.
7 Ma parliamo la sapienza di Dio nel misterio, la qual sapienza è nascosta, e predestinata fu da Dio inanzi alli secoli a nostra gloria.	7 It is of the mysterious wisdom of God that we talk, the wisdom that was hidden, which God predestinedto be for our glory before the ages began.
8 La qual non conobbe niuno delli principi a questo mondo; chè se l'avesseno cognosciuta, non averebbeno crucifisso il Signore della gloria.	8 None of the rulers of the age recognised it; for if they had recognised it, they would not have crucifiedthe Lord of glory;
9 Sì come è scritto: occhio non vide, nè orecchia non udì, nè in cuor d' uomo non salì quella cosa che Dio hae apparecchiata a coloro che lui amano.	9 but it is as scripture says: What no eye has seen and no ear has heard, what the mind of man cannotvisualise; al that God has prepared for those who love him;
10 Ma Iddio l' ha revelata a noi per il suo Spirito; chè il Spirito tutte le cose cerca, eziam le profonde cose di Dio.	10 to us, though, God has given revelation through the Spirit, for the Spirit explores the depths ofeverything, even the depths of God.
11 E quale delli uomini sa quelle cose che son dell' uomo, se non il spirito dell' uomo, il qual abita in lui? E così quelle cose che son di Dio, non le conosce se non il Spirito di Dio.	11 After al , is there anyone who knows the qualities of anyone except his own spirit, within him; and inthe same way, nobody knows the qualities of God except the Spirit of God.
12 Ma noi non avemo ricevuto spirito di questo mondo, ma il Spirito il qual è da Dio, acciò che noi conosciamo quelle cose che son donate da Dio a noi.	12 Now, the Spirit we have received is not the spirit of the world but God's own Spirit, so that we mayunderstand the lavish gifts God has given us.
13 Le quali cose parliamo, non con parole stolte di saviezza d' uomini, ma (equiparandole) nella dottrina del Spirito, assimigliando le cose spirituali con le spirituali.	13 And these are what we speak of, not in the terms learnt from human philosophy, but in terms learntfrom the Spirit, fitting spiritual language to spiritual things.
14 Chè l' uomo bestiale non riceve quelle cose che son dello Spirito di Dio; chè la mattezza è con lui; e non le può intendere, imperò che spiritualmente è (provato e) disaminato.	14 The natural person has no room for the gifts of God's Spirit; to him they are folly; he cannot recognisethem, because their value can be assessed only in the Spirit.
15 Ma l' uomo spirituale giudica tutte le cose; ed egli non è giudicato da alcuno.	15 The spiritual person, on the other hand, can assess the value of everything, and that person's valuecannot be assessed by anybody else.
16 E chi cognosce il senno del Signore, se non il Spirito del Signore, e colui che sarà ammaestrato da quello Spirito? Ma noi avemo il senno di Cristo.	16 For: who has ever known the mind of the Lord? Who has ever been his adviser? But we are thosewho have the mind of Christ.
