1 Dopo cinque giorni Anania principe de' sacerdoti andò in (Cesarea) contra Paulo con altri molti seniori e con uno (grande savio) avvocato, che aveva nome Tertullo.	1 And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.
2 E (pervenuti che furono inanzi al preside, il predetto) Tertullo incominciò ad accusare Paulo, e disse: vivendo noi in molta pace sotto la tua signoria, (ottimo Felice preside,) perciò che da te li malfattori si correggono,	2 And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,
3 sempre e in ogni lato con grande ringraziamento (e amore) la tua signoria riceviamo (e vogliamo).	3 We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.
4 Ma per non ti tenere a parole, brevemente ora (ti parleremo) preghiamti che ci dia audenzia per la tua clemenza.	4 Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.
5 Abbiamo trovato questo (Paulo) uomo pestifero e sedizioso, il quale per diverse parti e contrade va seminando suoi errori (e predica contra a' giudei) seguitando e lodando la superstiziosa setta de' Nazareni, (cioè cristiani, li quali credono in Iesù Nazareno, il quale per li suoi peccati li nostri principi il crucifissero);	5 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:
6 e il quale eziandio (Paulo) il nostro tempio forzossi di vituperare; onde però noi il prendemmo, volendolo punire secondo la nostra legge.	6 Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.
7 Ma sopravvenendo Lisia tribuno (con sua gente), sì ne lo tolse con grande forza (e poi l' ha mandato a te),	7 But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,
8 denunziando a noi suoi accusatori, che comparissimo dinanzi a te; onde (perciò siamo a te venuti contra a lui, secondo il tuo officio) potrai da lui stesso sapere, e farlo confessare quello di che noi l' accusiamo.	8 Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.
9 E così poi Anania e) tutti gli (altri sacerdoti) iudei confermarono il detto di Tertullo, e così dissero ch' era come elli aveva detto.	9 And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.
10 Allora il preside (e tribuno) comandò a Paulo, che rispondesse; il quale rispose e disse (al tribuno): sapendo già più anni, che tu se' giudice (e signore) di questa gente, (sono molto contento e) con molta grande fiducia (riputandoti giusto signore, dinanzi a te) renderò ragione (e scuserommi) di questo che costoro mi oppongono.	10 Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:
11 (E poi cominciandosi a scusare, disse così :) come tu stesso potrai investigare la verità, non sono più che dodici dì, che io venni in Ierusalem per adorare (al tempio).	11 Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.
12 E (li giudei) non mi trovorono disputare con alcuno nel tempio, nè fare (setta nè) raunam ento di gente per le loro sinagoghe,	12 And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:
13 nè in altro luogo; nè (con verità giurare nè dire) possono (nè) provare quelle cose delle quali mi accusano.	13 Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.
14 Ma confesso, che secondo la detta setta (dei Nazareni), la quale dicono ch' è eresia, io servo a Dio Padre, credendo (e servando) ciò che la legge comanda, e ciò che per li profeti è scritto.	14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
15 E ho fidanza nella (beata) resurrezione (e retribuzione) de' giusti e degl' iniqui.	15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
16 In questa fede (e via) mi studio di piacere a Dio e alle genti, con buona coscienza e senza peccato (e senza scandalo) sempre.	16 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.
17 E dopo più anni ( ch' io non vi fui più), venni ora (in Ierusalem) per dare certe elemosine a' poveri della mia gente, e per fare offerte, e per rendere miei voti (nel tempio).	17 Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.
18 Ed egli sanno che mi trovarono purificato (secondo la legge) nel tempio, non con turbazione nè con tumulti, (nè nulla fare contra alla legge; e nientemeno a furore mi presero, gridando e dicendo: togli togli lo nimico nostro).	18 Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.
19 E questi (furono principalmente) certi giudei Asiani (li quali in Asia veduto m' avevano; onde costoro) converrebbe che ci fossero, e che mi accusassero, se avessero nulla contra a me.	19 Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.
20 Ma poi (che non ci sono quelli ) dicano costoro, (e accusinmi) se contra a me hauno trovato colpa; ecco ch' io sto ora in questo.concilio (dinanzi a te).	20 Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,
21 Chè per verità nulla possono dire contra a me, se non che (forse dispiaque loro ch' ) io gridai nel concilio, ch' io (era Fariseo e figliuolo di Fariseo, ed) era giudicato per ch' io predicava la resurrezione de' morti.	21 Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
22 Le cui savie risposte udendo Felice preside, e (vedendo che li iudei nol potevano convincere, e) parendoli buona la scusa di Paulo, (diede indugio a questo fatto, e) disse: quando il tribuno di Ierusalem verrà a noi in Cesarea, vi darò audienza.	22 And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.
23 E (accomiatando li giudei) chiamò uno Centurione, e comandogli che guardasse Paulo, (e niuna molestia li facesse nè lasciasse fare), e non vietasse se alcuno cristiano o suo amico li volesse (parlare o) servire.	23 And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.
24 E dopo alquanti giorni mandò per lui il predetto Felice, e Drusilla sua mogliere la quale era giudea; e fecensi esponere la fede di Cristo.	24 And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
25 E Paulo (così facendo e parlando e) disputando (molto sottilmente e ferventemente) della giustizia e della castità e del giudicio futuro, Felice (preside) tutto impaurito (e tremando) li disse: or va, (ritorna; tosto sarai liberato), e quando sarà bisogno, mandarò per te.	25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
26 E questo disse (a malizia, credendo e) sperando che li dèsse moneta (per essere liberato); e per questa cagione più volte mandò per lui, e parlavali.	26 He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.
27 Dopo due anni (che Paulo venne in Cesarea) compiendo l'officio del predetto Felice, succedette dopo lui (e venne officiale e tribuno, uno che si chiamava) Porzio Festo. Ma partendosi il predetto Felice, volendo di ciò piacere a' giudei, non liberò Paulo, ma lasciollo in prigione, (e non volse determiuare la questione tra lui e' iudei).	27 But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
