Deuteronomio 7

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Poiche Iddio t'avrà menato e messo nella terra, la quale entrando tu possederai, e ucciderà molte nazioni e genti dinanzi a te, cioè lo Eteo, Gergeseo e Amorreo e Cananeo e Ferezeo ed Eveo e Iebuseo, sette genti di molto maggior numero (e moltitudine) che tu, e molto più forti,	1 'When Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are going to make your own,many nations wil fal before you: Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites,seven nations greater and stronger than yourselves.
2 e poichè Iddio le avrà messe nelle tue mani, fa che tu le uccidi e ispegni insino a tanto che niuno ci rimanga; e non farai alcuno patto con loro, nè non averai loro misericordia;	2 Yahweh your God will put them at your mercy and you will conquer them. You must put them under thecurse of destruction. You must not make any treaty with them or show them any pity.
3 nè accompagnera’ti con loro per ligamento di matrimonio; la tua figliuola non darai per moglie ad alcuno de' suoi figliuoli; e non piglierai la sua figliuola (, e non la darai) per moglie al tuo figliuolo.	3 You must not intermarry with them; you must not give a daughter of yours to a son of theirs, or take adaughter of theirs for a son of yours,
4 Impercio ch' ella ingannerà il tuo figliuolo, acciò che egli non mi sèguiti (e non sia mio servi dore); anzi farà ella, ch' egli serva agli dii altrui; e il furore e l'ira di Dio si turberà (e adirerà contro a te), e sì ti spegnerà e ucciderà incontinente.	4 for your son would be seduced from fol owing me into serving other gods; the wrath of Yahweh wouldblaze out against you and he would instantly destroy you.
5 Ma questo voglio, che voi facciate loro più tosto; li altari disfacete e ispezzate; e i loro idoli e le loro imagini scolpite (e rilevate) sì arderete.	5 Instead, treat them like this: tear down their altars, smash their standing-stones, cut down their sacredpoles and burn their idols.
6 Imperciò che tu se popolo santo di Dio; e Iddio tuo Signore te elesse, acciò che tu gli sii suo popolo (serviziale e) speciale, di tutte quante le genti e popoli che sono sopra la terra.	6 For you are a people consecrated to Yahweh your God; of al the peoples on earth, you have beenchosen by Yahweh your God to be his own people.
7 E questo non fece Iddio, perchè voi foste più numero (e moltitudine), che l'altre genti e nazioni; nè per questo Iddio si congiunse con voi, e sì vi elesse (tra l'altre genti e nazioni); conciosia cosa che voi siate molto meno che l'altre genti.	7 'Yahweh set his heart on you and chose you not because you were the most numerous of al peoples --for indeed you were the smal est of al -
8 Ma egli vi elesse, perchè v'ha amato singo larmente, e ha osservato il giuramento che (pro messe e) giuroe a' vostri padri; e sì vi menò colla mano forte, e sì vi ricomperò (e iscampò) della casa della servitù e della mano di Faraone re d'Egitto.	8 but because he loved you and meant to keep the oath which he swore to your ancestors: that was whyYahweh brought you out with his mighty hand and redeemed you from the place of slave-labour, from the powerof Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9 E (conoscerai e) saprai che Iddio è tuo Signore; egli è Iddio forte e fedele, il quale serva il patto (e la promessa), e fa misericordia a coloro che l'amano, e a coloro i quali servano (e guardano) i suoi comandamenti, insino in mille generazioni.	9 From this you can see that Yahweh your God is the true God, the faithful God who, though he is true tohis covenant and his faithful love for a thousand generations as regards those who love him and keep hiscommandments,
10 E a coloro che l'hanno in odio rende im mantinente quello che meritano, in tanto che gli cacci e uccida, e non s'indugi, subitamente dando loro quello che sono degni.	10 punishes in their own persons those that hate him. He destroys anyone who hates him, without delay;and it is in their own persons that he punishes them.
11 Guarda adunque i comandamenti e le osser vanze ed i giudicii, i quali io ti comando oggi, che tu facci.	11 Hence, you must keep and observe the commandments, laws and customs which I am laying downfor you today.
12 Onde, se poi che tu averai uditi questi giudicii, sì gli osserverai e guarderai, Iddio tuo Signore ti serverà il patto e la promissione, la quale giuroe (e promesse) a' tuoi padri.	12 'Listen to these ordinances, be true to them and observe them, and in return Yahweh your God wil betrue to the covenant and love which he promised on oath to your ancestors.
13 E sì t'amerà e sì ti multiplicherà (e farà crescere; e sì ti benedicerà,) e darà la sua benedizione al frutto del tuo ventre (cioè a' tuoi figliuoli), e al frutto della terra tua, al grano tuo e alle greggie e agli armenti tuoi e a tutte le mandre delle pecore tue, sopra la terra la quale (promesse e) giuroe a' tuoi padri, ch' egli te la darà.	13 He wil love you and bless you and increase your numbers; he wil bless the fruit of your body and theproduce of your soil, your corn, your new wine, your oil, the issue of your cattle, the young of your flock, in thecountry which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you.
14 E tu sarai benedetto tra tutti li popoli (e le genti). Non si troverà, tra la tua gente, persona sterile (cioè non fruttuosa) o maschio o femina che sia, così degli uomini tuoi che del tuo bestiame.	14 You wil be the most blessed of al peoples. None of you, man or woman, will be sterile, no male orfemale of your beasts infertile.
15 Iddio caccerà da te ogni dolore; e quelle infermitadi pessime d'Egitto, le quali tu sapesti (e vedesti), egli non ti darà; ma daralle a tutti i tuoi nemici.	15 Yahweh wil deflect al il ness from you; he wil not afflict you with those evil plagues of Egypt whichyou have known, but will inflict them on al who hate you.
16 E fa che tu uccidi tutte le genti e popoli, i quali Iddio, tuo Signore, darà nelle tue mani. E guarda che l'occhio tuo (per inganno) [non) perdoni loro; e non servirai agli dii altrui, acciò che non siano in pericolo tuo.	16 'So, devour all the peoples whom Yahweh your God puts at your mercy, show them no pity, do notserve their gods: or you wil be ensnared.
17 (Onde,) se tu dirai nel tuo cuore: più sono queste genti (e nazioni), che non sono io; come sarò io potente a potergli ispegnere (e uccidere, e a far gli venire meno)?	17 'You may say in your heart, "These nations outnumber me; how shal I be able to dispossess them?"
18 non avere paura, ma ricordati di quello che Iddio fece a Faraone e a tutti quelli d'Egitto,	18 Do not be afraid of them: remember how Yahweh your God treated Pharaoh and all Egypt,
19 cioè le grandi piaghe (che Iddio diede loro), le quali vidono i tuoi occhi, e li segni e le maraviglie, la mano forte e il braccio isteso, acciò che Iddio tuo Signore te ne traesse; così farae a tutti quanti i popoli de' quali tu hai paura.	19 the great ordeals that you yourselves have seen, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand andoutstretched arm with which Yahweh your God brought you out. This is how Yahweh your God will treat al thepeoples whom you fear to face.
20 Ancora sopra questo Iddio, tuo Signore (te ne trasse, e) manderà loro carboni (infiammanti ed accesi, insino a tanto ch' egli gli avrà uccisi e morti e ispenti; chi ti potrà fuggire, e chi si potrà nascon dere dinanzi da te?	20 And what is more, Yahweh your God wil send hornets to destroy those who are left and who hidefrom you.
21 Non averai paura di loro, imperciò che Iddio tuo Signore istà in mezzo di te: Iddio, grande e terribile,	21 'Do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is among you, a great and terrible God.
22 sì gli consumerà, tutte queste nazioni (e genti dinanzi a te) in tua presenza, a poco a poco, e a parte a parte. Tu non le potrai ispegnere tutte insieme, acciè che le bestie della terra non (creschino e) moltiplichino contro a te.	22 Little by little, Yahweh your God will clear away these nations before you; you cannot destroy them allat once, or wild animals wil breed and be disastrous for you.
23 E Iddio sì gli darà (nelle tue mani) nel cospetto tuo, e uccideralli persino a tanto che saranno spenti.	23 But Yahweh your God wil put them at your mercy, and disaster after disaster wil overtake them untilthey are finally destroyed.
24 Egli darà i re loro nelle tue mani, e disperderà il nome loro di sotto al cielo: niuno ti potrà contraddire nè contrastare, insino a tanto che tu gli avrai ispenti.	24 He wil put their kings at your mercy and you wil blot out their names under heaven; no one wil beable to resist you -- until you have destroyed them al .
25 Le loro imagini iscolpite (e rilevate) arderai col fuoco; e guarda che non desideri l'oro e l'ariento di che son fatte; e non piglierai alcuna cosa, acciò che non offendi; imperciò che loro sono abbo minazioni dinanzi a Dio tuo Signore.	25 'You must burn the statues of their gods, not coveting the gold and silver that covers them; take it andyou wil be caught in a snare: it is detestable to Yahweh your God.
26 E guàrdati che non porti alcuna cosa d'idolo in casa tua, acciò che non diventi iscomunicato (e abbominevole), siccome è quello idolo. Siccome cosa immonda (e fastidiosa), l'avrai in abbominazione, e come cosa corrotta e caduta in miseria e puzzolente, sì l’ avrai in fastidio; imperciò ch' è cosa iscomu nicata (e da Dio refutata).	26 You must not bring any detestable thing into your house: or you, like it, wil come under the curse ofdestruction. You must regard them as unclean and loathsome, for they are under the curse of destruction.'
