1 Partissi Israel con ogni cosa ch' egli avea, e venne al pozzo del giuramento; e fatti quivi i sa crificii a Dio del padre suo Isaac,	1 Israel set out with all that was his. When he arrived at Beer-sheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.
2 udì per la visione della notte, chiamando lui, e dicendo a lui: Iacob, Iacob. Il quale respuose: ecco ch' io sono presente.	2 There God, speaking to Israel in a vision by night, called, "Jacob! Jacob!" "Here I am," he answered.
3 Disse a lui Dio: io sono fortissimo Iddio del padre tuo; non temere, e va in Egitto, imperciò che in grande gente farò quivi te.	3 Then he said: "I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you a great nation.
4 Io verrò teco colà, ed io di quindi adducerò te ritornante; e Iosef porrà la mano sua sopra li occhii tuoi.	4 Not only will I go down to Egypt with you; I will also bring you back here, after Joseph has closed your eyes."
5 Levossi Iacob del pozzo del giuramento; e menarono lui li figliuoli suoi, con li fanciulli e colle mogli loro, nelle ceste che avea mandate Faraone a portare lo vecchio,	5 So Jacob departed from Beer-sheba, and the sons of Israel put their father and their wives and children on the wagons that Pharaoh had sent for his transport.
6 e ogni cosa che possedeva nella terra Canaan; e venne in Egitto con ogni suo seme,	6 They took with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan. Thus Jacob and all his descendants migrated to Egypt.
7 e coi figliuoli suoi e nepoti e le figliuole sue, e poi insieme tutta la schiatta.	7 His sons and his grandsons, his daughters and his granddaughters--all his descendants--he took with him to Egypt.
8 Ma questi sono i nomi de' figliuoli d'Israel, i quali sono venuti in Egitto, cioè elli coi figliuoli suoi. Lo primogenito si è Ruben.	8 These are the names of the Israelites, Jacob and his descendants, who migrated to Egypt. Reuben, Jacob's first-born,
9 Li figliuoli di Ruben: Enoc e Fallu, Esron e Carmi.	9 and the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
10 Li figliuoli di Simeon: Gemuel e lamin e Acod e Iachin e Soar e Saul figliuolo di Cananitide.	10 The sons of Simeon: Nemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, son of a Canaanite woman.
11 Li figliuoli di Levi: Gerson e Caat e Merari.	11 The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
12 Li figliuoli di Iuda: Er ed Onan e Sela e Fares e Zara; ma morti sono Er ed Onan nella terra Canaan; e nati sono figliuoli di Fares: Esron ed Amul.	12 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah--but Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan; and the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.
13 Li figliuoli di Issacar: Tola e Fua e Iob e Semron.	13 The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puah, Jashub, and Shimron.
14 Li figliuoli di Zabulon: Sared ed Elon e Iaelel.	14 The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.
15 Questi sono i figliuoli di Lia, li quali gene roe (Iacob) in Mesopotamia di Siria con Dina sua figliuola: tutte l'anime dei figliuoli suoi e delle figliuole sono XXXIII.	15 These were the sons whom Leah bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, along with his daughter Dinah--thirty-three persons in all, male and female.
16 E i figliuoli di Gad: Sefion, Aggi, Suni ed Esebon, Eri e Arodi e Areli.	16 The sons of Gad: Zephon, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arod, and Areli.
17 Li figliuoli d'Aser: Iamne e lesua e lessui e Beria, e ancora Sara loro sorella. Li figliuoli di Beria: Eber e Melchiel.	17 The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, and Beriah, with their sister Serah; and the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.
18 E questi sono i figliuoli di Zelfa, la quale diede Laban a Lia sua figliuola; e costoro generò Iacob, XVI anime.	18 These were the descendants of Zilpah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah; these she bore to Jacob--sixteen persons in all.
19 Li figliuoli di Rachel moglie di Iacob: Iosef e Beniamin.	19 The sons of Jacob's wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
20 E nati sono a Iosef figliuoli nella terra di Egitto, li quali generò a lui Asenet, la figlia di Pu tifar prete di Eliopoleos: Manasse ed Efraim.	20 In the land of Egypt Joseph became the father of Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of Heliopolis, bore to him.
21 E li figliuoli di Beniamin: Bela e Becor ed Asbel e Gera e Naaman ed Echi e Ros, Mofim e Ofim e Ared.	21 The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ahiram, Shupham, Hupham, and Ard.
22 E questi sono i figliuoli di Rachel, li quali generò Iacob; tutte l'anime sono XIIII.	22 These were the sons whom Rachel bore to Jacob--fourteen persons in all.
23 Li figliuoli di Dan: Usim.	23 The sons of Dan: Hushim.
24 Li figliuoli di Neftali: Iasiel e Guni e leser e Sallem.	24 The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.
25 E questi sono i figliuoli di Bala, la quale diede Laban a Rachel sua figliuola; e costoro ge nerò Iacob; tutte l'anime sono sette.	25 These were the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Rachel; these she bore to Jacob--seven persons in all.
26 E tutte l'anime che vennero con Iacob in Egitto, ed uscite del fianco suo, sanza le mogli dei figliuoli, sono LXVI.	26 Jacob's people who migrated to Egypt--his direct descendants, not counting the wives of Jacob's sons--numbered sixty-six persons in all.
27 Ma i figliuoli di Iosef, i quali sono nati a lui nella terra d'Egitto, sono due anime. Tutte le anime della casa di Iacob, le quali andarono in Egitto, furono LXX.	27 Together with Joseph's sons who were born to him in Egypt--two persons--all the people comprising Jacob's family who had come to Egypt amounted to seventy persons in all.
28 E mandò Iuda, innanzi a sè, a Iosef acciò che nunciasse a lui, e quelli andasse insino a Gessen.	28 Israel had sent Judah ahead to Joseph, so that he might meet him in Goshen. On his arrival in the region of Goshen,
29 Il quale, conciosia cosa che vi fosse perve nuto, giunto Iosef col carro suo, andò incontro al padre suo a quello medesimo luogo; e vedendo lui, gittossi sopra lo collo suo, e nello abbracciamento pianse.	29 Joseph hitched the horses to his chariot and rode to meet his father Israel in Goshen. As soon as he saw him, he flung himself on his neck and wept a long time in his arms.
30 E disse lo padre a Iosef: oggi mai io morrò allegro, perciò ch' io ho veduto la faccia tua.	30 And Israel said to Joseph, "At last I can die, now that I have seen for myself that Joseph is still alive."
31 Quelli favellò a' fratelli suoi e ad ogni casa del padre suo, e disse: io anderò a Faraone, e nun cerogli, e dirò a lui: li fratelli miei e la casa del padre mio, li quali erano nella terra Canaan, sono venuti a me.	31 Joseph then said to his brothers and his father's household: "I will go and inform Pharaoh, telling him: 'My brothers and my father's household, whose home is in the land of Canaan, have come to me.
32 E sono uomini pastori delle pecore, e hanno cura di nutricare le gregge; e le bestie sue e l'armenta, e ogni cosa che poterono avere, arrecarono con loro.	32 The men are shepherds, having long been keepers of livestock; and they have brought with them their flocks and herds, as well as everything else they own.'
33 E quando egli chiamerà voi, e dirà a voi: che è lo lavorìo vostro?	33 So when Pharaoh summons you and asks what your occupation is,
34 respondete: uomini pastori siamo, tuoi servi, dalla fanciullezza nostra insino al presente, e noi e li padri nostri (a peregrinare nella terra tua siamo venuti). E queste cose direte, acciò che voi possiate abitare nella terra Gessen; imperciò che desprezzano quelli d'Egitto tutti li pastori delle pecore.	34 you must answer, 'We your servants, like our ancestors, have been keepers of livestock from the beginning until now,' in order that you may stay in the region of Goshen, since all shepherds are abhorrent to the Egyptians."
