BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Vennero adunque due angioli a Sodoma nel vespro, sedente Lot ne' mercati della città; il quale, quando gli vidde, levossi, e andò incontro a loro, e adorò inchinato nella terra.	1 When the two angels reached Sodom in the evening, Lot was sitting at the gate of Sodom. As soon asLot saw them, he stood up to greet them, and bowed to the ground.
2 E disse: io vi scongiuro, signori, che voi veniate nella casa al fanciullo vostro, e state quivi; lavate i piedi vostri, e dimane fate trapasso nella via vostra. I quali dissero: questo non faremo, ma nella piazza staremo.	2 'My lords,' he said, 'please come down to your servant's house to stay the night and wash your feet.Then you can make an early start on your journey.' 'No,' they said, 'we shal spend the night in the square.'
3 Constrinse coloro per priego, acciò che venissero a lui; e venuti nella casa sua, fece convito, e cosse l'azima, e mangiarono.	3 But he pressed them so much that they went home with him and entered his house. He prepared ameal for them, baking unleavened bread, and they had supper.
4 Ma innanzi ch' egli andassero a dormire, gli uomini della città andarono e circondarono la casa, dal fanciullo insino al vecchio, tutto il popolo insieme.	4 They had not gone to bed when the house was surrounded by the townspeople, the men of Sodomboth young and old, al the people without exception.
5 E chiamarono Lot, e dissero a lui: dove sono gli uomini che entrarono a te ista notte? Mena loro qua, acciò che noi li conosciamo.	5 Cal ing out to Lot they said, 'Where are the men who came to you tonight? Send them out to us sothat we can have intercourse with them.'
6 E partitosi Lot da loro, uscì fuori da drieto; e chiudendosi dentro all'uscio, disse:	6 Lot came out to them at the door and, having shut the door behind him,
7 non vogliate fare, io vi addomando, fratelli miei, questo male.	7 said, 'Please, brothers, do not be wicked.
8 Io hoe due figliuole, le quali ancora non conoscerono uomo; io menerò loro a voi, e fatene ciò che vi piace. Ora a questi uomini nulla di male non fate, perciò che venuti sono sotto l'ombra dello mio coperto.	8 Look, I have two daughters who are virgins. I am ready to send them out to you, for you to treat asyou please, but do nothing to these men since they are now under the protection of my roof.'
9 E quelli dissero: partiti colà. E un'altra volta dissero: or non ci se' tu venuto come fore stiere? saresti mai venuto acciò che ne giudichi? Dunque te medesimo, più che costoro, ti tormente remo. E facevano forza a Lot grandissima; già presso era, ch' egli non li avessero rotte le porte di fuori.	9 But they retorted, 'Stand back! This fel ow came here as a foreigner, and now he wants to play thejudge. Now we shal treat you worse than them.' Then they forced Lot back and moved forward to break downthe door.
10 Ed ecco gli uomini misero la mano, e me narono dentro a loro Lot, e chiusero l'uscio.	10 But the men reached out, pul ed Lot back into the house with them, and shut the door.
11 E coloro ch' erano di fuori percossero di cecità, dal minimo insino al maggiore, sì che l'uscio trovare non potessero.	11 And they dazzled those who were at the door of the house, one and al , with a blinding light, so thatthey could not find the doorway.
12 E dissero gli angioli a Lot: hai tu qui alcuno de'tuoi generi, ovvero figliuoli o figliuole? tutti co loro che sono tuoi ménagli fuori di questa città.	12 The men said to Lot, 'Have you anyone else here? Your sons, your daughters and al your people inthe city, take them away,
13 In verità noi guasteremo questo luogo; im percio chè cresciuto è lo grido e il clamore loro inanzi al Signore; il quale mandò noi, acciò che noi gli uccidiamo.	13 for we are about to destroy this place, since the outcry to Yahweh against those in it has grown soloud that Yahweh has sent us to destroy it.'
14 Adunque venuto è Lot a' generi suoi, i quali doveano torre le figliuole sue per mogli; e favelloe a loro, e disse: levatevi e partitevi di questo luogo; imperciò che lo Signore (per lo peccato), guasterà questa città. E parve a loro che favellasse sì come beffante.	14 So Lot went off and spoke to his future sons-in-law who were to marry his daughters. 'On your feet!'he said, 'Leave this place, for Yahweh is about to destroy the city.' But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.
15 E quando fu la mattina, costringeano lui li angioli, dicenti: lievati e tuogli la moglie tua e [ le due ] tue figliuole, acciò che tutti parimenti non periscano nella fellonia della città.	15 When dawn broke the angels urged Lot on, 'To your feet! Take your wife and your two daughterswho are here, or you will be swept away in the punishment of the city.'
16 Dissimulando Lot di partirsi, quelli presono la mano sua e la mano della moglie sua e quelle delle due sue figliuole, acciò che perdonasse Iddio a colui.	16 And as he hesitated, the men seized his hand and the hands of his wife and his two daughters --Yahweh being merciful to him -- and led him out and left him outside the city.
17 E menarono lui fuori della città, e quivi gli favellarono, dicenti: salva l'anima tua; non guar dare drieto, e non istare in niuno luogo appresso la regione; ma nel monte ti fa salvo, acciò che tu insieme non perisci.	17 When they had brought him outside, he was told, 'Flee for your life. Do not look behind you or stopanywhere on the plain. Flee to the hil s or you wil be swept away.'
18 E disse Lot a loro: io ti prego, mio Signore;	18 'Oh no, my lord!' Lot said to them,
19 imperciò ch' egli ha trovato lo servo tuo grazia innanzi a te, e magnificasti la misericordia tua la quale facesti meco, acciò che tu salvassi l'anima mia, non posso nel monte essere salvato, ne per avventura mi piglilo male e muora (appresso di questa città).	19 'You have already been very good to your servant and shown me even greater love by saving mylife, but I cannot flee to the hil s, or disaster wil overtake me and I shall die.
20 Ed è una città picciola quivi appresso, alla quale io posso fuggire; saroe salvato in quella pic cola città, e viverà l'anima mia?	20 That town over there is near enough to flee to, and is small. Let me flee there-after al it is only asmal place -- and so survive.'
21 E disse a lui: ecco, ancora in questa cosa hoe ricevuto li preghi tuoi, acciò ch' io non sovvertirò la città per la quale hai favellato.	21 He replied, 'I grant you this favour too, and wil not overthrow the town you speak of.
22 Affrettati, e salvati quivi; imperciò ch' io non potrò fare alcuna cosa, intanto che tu anderai colà. Imperciò chiamò lo nome di quella città SEGOR.	22 Hurry, flee to that one, for I cannot do anything until you reach it.' That is why the town is namedZoar.
23 Il sole è nato sopra la terra, e Lot venuto è in Segor.	23 The sun rose over the horizon just as Lot was entering Zoar.
24 Adunque lo Signore piovve sopra Sodoma e Gomorra solfo e fuoco da Dio di cielo.	24 Then Yahweh rained down on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire of his own sending.
25 E sovertitte queste città, ed ogni cosa intorno alla regione, e tutti gli abitatori delle città, e tutte le cose della terra virente.	25 He overthrew those cities and the whole plain, with al the people living in the cities and everythingthat grew there.
26 E guardantesi la mogli di Lot drieto, si è convertita in sale.	26 But Lot's wife looked back, and was turned into a pil ar of salt.
27 Ma Abraam, levantesi la mattina dov'era stato prima col Signore,	27 Next morning, Abraham hurried to the place where he had stood before Yahweh,
28 guardò verso Sodoma e Gomorra e tutta la terra di quella regione; e vidde salire una favilla di terra, quasi come fumo di fornace.	28 and looking towards Sodom and Gomorrah and the whole area of the plain, he saw the smoke risingfrom the ground like smoke from a furnace.
29 E conciosia cosa che sovvertisse lo Signore le città di quella regione, ricordato si è di Abraam; e liberò Lot della sovversione della città nella quale abitava.	29 Thus it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he did not forget Abraham and herescued Lot from the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities where Lot was living.
30 E venne Lot da Segor, e stette nel monte e due figliuole con lui; e' temettero in verità di stare in Segor; ed istette nella spelonca egli e due sue figliuole.	30 After leaving Zoar Lot settled in the hill country with his two daughters, for he dared not stay at Zoar.He lived in a cave, he and his two daughters.
31 E disse la maggiore inverso la minore: lo padre nostro è vecchio, e niuno uomo è rimaso in terra, il quale possa venire a noi appresso lo costume di tutta la terra.	31 The elder said to the younger, 'Our father is an old man, and there is no one here to marry us in thenormal way of the world.
32 Vieni, inebriamlo di vino; e dormiamo con lui, acciò che noi serviamo del nostro padre seme.	32 Come on, let us ply our father with wine and sleep with him. In this way we can preserve the race byour father.'
33 E diedero al padre loro bere del vino quella notte. Ed in quella n'andoe la maggiore a dormire col padre; ma quello non si sentie, nè quando la figliuola si coricò, nè quando si partì.	33 That night they made their father drunk, and the elder slept with her father though he was unaware ofher coming to bed or of her leaving.
34 Ed in verità l'altro di disse la maggiore alla minore: ecco, io dormie ieri col padre mio, diamogli ancora bere del vino ista notte, e dormirai con lui, acciò che noi serviamo seme del padre nostro.	34 The next day the elder said to the younger, 'Last night, I was the one who slept with our father. Letus make him drunk again tonight, and you go and sleep with him. In this way we can preserve the race by ourfather.'
35 E dièdengli in quella notte al padre loro del vino; e andovvi la minore figliuola, e dormi con lui; nè allora in verità non si sentì, quando ella si coricoe, o quando ella si levoe.	35 They made their father drunk that night too, and the younger went and slept with him, though he wasunaware of her coming to bed or of her leaving.
36 Ingravidò l'una e l'altra, le due figliuole di Lot, del padre loro.	36 Both Lot's daughters thus became pregnant by their father.
37 E partorio la maggiore uno figliuolo, e chiamò lo nome suo Moab: ed egli si è padre degli Moabiti insino al presente dì.	37 The elder gave birth to a son whom she named Moab; and he is the ancestor of the Moabites of ourown times.
38 E la minore partorì uno figliuolo, e chiamò lo nome suo Ammon, cioè figliuolo del popolo mio; ed egli si è padre degli Ammoniti insino ad oggi.	38 The younger also gave birth to a son whom she named Ben-Ammi; and he is the ancestor of theBene-Ammon of our own times.
