SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 De volta a Jerusalém, Roboão mobilizou as tribos de Judá e de Benjamim, em número de cento e oitenta mil guerreiros escolhidos, para atacar a casa de Israel e reintegrá-la ao reino de Roboão.	1 When Rehoboam reached Jerusalem, he mustered a hundred and eighty thousand picked warriors ofthe House of Judah and Benjamin to fight Israel and win back the kingdom for Rehoboam.
2 Mas a palavra do Senhor foi dirigida ao homem de Deus, Semaías, nestes termos:	2 But the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah, man of God,
3 Dirige-te a Roboão, filho de Salomão, rei de Judá, e a todos os de Israel que habitam em Judá e Benjamim.	3 'Say this to Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to al Israel in Judah and Benjamin,
4 Dize-lhes: Eis o que diz o Senhor: De modo algum ireis fazer guerra a vossos irmãos. Voltai cada qual para sua casa, pois é por mim que esses acontecimentos se realizaram. Dóceis à palavra do Senhor, renunciaram a atacar Jeroboão, e voltaram.	4 "Yahweh says this: Do not go and make war on your brothers; let everyone go home, for this is mydoing." ' They obeyed Yahweh's command and went back instead of marching against Jeroboam.
5 Roboão ficou, portanto, em Jerusalém. Construiu cidades fortes no território de Judá.	5 Rehoboam, residing in Jerusalem, fortified a number of towns for the defence of Judah.

8 Get, Maresa, Zif,	8 Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,
9 Adurão, Laquis, Azeca,	9 Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,
10 Saraa, Aialon e Hebron, todas cidades fortificadas, situadas em Judá e Benjamim.	10 Zorah, Aijalon, Hebron, these being the fortified towns in Judah and Benjamin.
11 Fortificou esses lugares, nomeou para eles governadores e neles estabeleceu depósitos de víveres, óleo e vinho.	11 He equipped these fortresses, stationing commanders in them, with supplies of food, oil and wine,
12 Fez em cada cidade um arsenal de escudos e de lanças, fazendo delas verdadeiras praças fortes. Judá e Benjamim ficavam-lhe, portanto, fiéis.	12 and shields and spears in each of these towns, making them extremely strong and thus retainingcontrol of Judah and Benjamin.
13 Os sacerdotes e levitas que habitavam no território de Israel vieram de todas as partes aderir ao seu partido.	13 The priests and the Levites from all over Israel left their districts to put themselves at his disposal.
14 Os levitas abandonaram suas terras e suas propriedades para irem habitar em Judá ou em Jerusalém, porque Jeroboão e seus filhos os tinham destituído de sua função de sacerdotes do Senhor.	14 The Levites, indeed, abandoned their pasture lands and their holdings and came to Judah andJerusalem because Jeroboam and his sons had excluded them from the priesthood of Yahweh.
15 Jeroboão, com efeito, nomeara sacerdotes para os lugares altos, para o culto dos bodes e dos touros que tinha feito.	15 Jeroboam had appointed his own priests for the high places dedicated to the satyrs and calves whichhe had made.
16 Após os levitas, todos aqueles das tribos de Israel que procuravam de coração o Senhor, Deus de Israel, foram a Jerusalém para oferecer seus sacrifícios ao Senhor, o Deus de seus pais.	16 And those members of al the tribes of Israel who were determined to seek Yahweh, God of Israel,fol owed those priests and Levites to Jerusalem to sacrifice to Yahweh, God of their ancestors.
17 Vieram assim reforçar o reino de Judá, e reafirmar o poder de Roboão, filho de Salomão. Isso durou três anos, pois durante um triênio seguiram o roteiro traçado por Davi e Salomão.	17 These added strength to the kingdom of Judah and gave their support to Rehoboam son of Solomonfor three years. For three years they remained loyal to David and Solomon.
18 Roboão tomou por esposas Maalat, filha de Jerimot, filho de Davi, {e} Abiai, filha de Eliab, filho de Isaí.	18 Rehoboam married Mahalath daughter of Jerimoth, son of David, and of Abihail daughter of Eliabson of Jesse,
19 Esta lhe deu à luz os filhos: Jeus, Somoria e Zom.	19 and she bore him sons: Jeush, Shemariah and Zaham.
20 Depois dela, tomou por esposa Maaca, filha de Absalão, que lhe deu Abia, Etaí, Ziza e Salomit.	20 After her, he married Maacah daughter of Absalom, who bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza and Shelomith.
21 Dentre todas as suas mulheres e concubinas, Roboão teve mais predileção por Maaca, filha de Absalão.
