1 Thessalonians 4

1 Therefore, concerning other things, brothers, we ask and beg you, in the Lord Jesus, that, just as you have received from us the way in which you ought to walk and to please God, so also may you walk, in order that you may abound all the more.	1 А втім, брати, ми просимо вас і благаємо в Господі Ісусі, щоб, як то ви від нас навчилися як слід жити на вподобу Богові, — як ви і живете, — щоб так досягали дедалі більшого поступу.
2 For you know what precepts I have given to you through the Lord Jesus.	2 Ви бо знаєте, які накази ми дали вам від Господа Ісуса.
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from fornication,	3 Це ж саме воля Божа: святість ваша — щоб ви стримувались від розпусти,
4 that each one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor,	4 щоб кожний з вас умів тримати своє тіло у святості й пошані,
5 not in passions of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God,	5 не в пристрасті жагучій, як погани, які не знають Бога;
6 and that no one should overwhelm or circumvent his brother in business. For the Lord is the vindicator of all these things, just as we have preached and testified to you.	6 не надуживаючи і не кривдячи в цій справі свого брата, бо Господь за те все відплачує, як ми про це вам уже казали та засвідчили.
7 For God has not called us to impurity, but to sanctification.	7 Бо Бог нас покликав не до нечистоти, а до святости.
8 And so, whoever despises these teachings, does not despise man, but God, who has even provided his Holy Spirit within us.	8 Тому, отже, хто на це не зважає, той не чоловіка зневажає, а Бога, що нам дає свого Святого Духа.
9 But concerning the charity of brotherhood, we have no need to write to you. For you yourselves have learned from God that you should love one another.	9 А щодо братньої любови, то ви не потребуєте, щоб до вас писати: самі бо ви навчені від Бога любити один одного,
10 For indeed, you act in this way with all the brothers in all of Macedonia. But we petition you, brothers, so that you may abound all the more,	10 і це чините супроти всіх братів по всій Македонії. Та ми благаємо вас, брати, досягати в цьому дедалі більшого поступу.
11 to choose work that allows you to be tranquil, and to carry out your business and to do your work with your own hands, just as we have instructed you,	11 Пильно старайтеся жити спокійно, клопотатися кожен своїми справами та працювати власними руками, — так, як ми були наказали,
12 and to walk honestly with those who are outside, and to desire nothing belonging to another.	12 — і щоб поводилися чесно супроти тих, що зовні, — і ні в чому не зазнавали нестачі.
13 And we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who are sleeping, so as not to be sorrowful, like these others who do not have hope.	13 Не хочемо, брати, залишати вас у незнанні щодо померлих, — щоб ви не сумували, як інші, що не мають надії.
14 For if we believe that Jesus has died and risen again, so also will God bring back with Jesus those who sleep in him.	14 Бо коли ми віруємо, що Ісус умер і воскрес, тож так і тих, які поснули в Ісусі, Бог приведе з ним.
15 For we say this to you, in the Word of the Lord: that we who are alive, who remain until the return of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.	15 Бо це ми вам кажемо словом Господнім: Ми, що живемо, що залишимося до приходу Господа, — не випередимо тих, що поснули.
16 For the Lord himself, with a command and with the voice of an Archangel and with a trumpet of God, shall descend from heaven. And the dead, who are in Christ, shall rise up first.	16 Бо сам Господь на даний знак, на голос архангела та при сурмі Божій, зійде з неба, і найперше воскреснуть ті, що вмерли в Христі.
17 Next, we who are alive, who are remaining, shall be taken up quickly together with them into the clouds to meet Christ in the air. And in this way, we shall be with the Lord always.	17 Потім же ми, що живемо, що лишимось, будемо разом з ними вхоплені на хмарах у повітря назустріч Господеві і так будемо з Господом завжди.
18 Therefore, console one another with these words.	18 Отже, втішайте один одного цими словами.
