1 And it happened that, when Jesus had completed all these words, he said to his disciples,	1 Als Jesus seine Reden beendet hatte, sagte er zu seinen Jüngern:
2 “You know that after two days the Passover will begin, and the Son of man will be handed over to be crucified.”	2 Ihr wisst, dass in zwei Tagen das Paschafest beginnt; da wird der Menschensohn ausgeliefert und gekreuzigt werden.
3 Then the leaders of the priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas.	3 Um die gleiche Zeit versammelten sich die Hohenpriester und die Ältesten des Volkes im Palast des Hohenpriesters, der Kajaphas hieß,
4 And they took counsel so that by deceitfulness they might take hold of Jesus and kill him.	4 und beschlossen, Jesus mit List in ihre Gewalt zu bringen und ihn zu töten.
5 But they said, “Not on the feast day, lest perhaps there may be a tumult among the people.”	5 Sie sagten aber: Ja nicht am Fest, damit kein Aufruhr im Volk entsteht.
6 And when Jesus was in Bethania, in the house of Simon the leper,	6 []
7 a woman drew near to him, holding an alabaster box of precious ointment, and she poured it over his head while he was reclining at table.	7 Als Jesus in Betanien im Haus Simons des Aussätzigen bei Tisch war, kam eine Frau mit einem Alabastergefäß voll kostbarem, wohlriechendem Öl zu ihm und goss es über sein Haar.
8 But the disciples, seeing this, were indignant, saying: “What is the purpose of this waste?	8 Die Jünger wurden unwillig, als sie das sahen, und sagten: Wozu diese Verschwendung?
9 For this could have been sold for a great deal, so as to be given to the poor.”	9 Man hätte das Öl teuer verkaufen und das Geld den Armen geben können.
10 But Jesus, knowing this, said to them: “Why are you bothering this woman? For she has done a good deed to me.	10 Jesus bemerkte ihren Unwillen und sagte zu ihnen: Warum lasst ihr die Frau nicht in Ruhe? Sie hat ein gutes Werk an mir getan.
11 For the poor you will always have with you. But you will not always have me.	11 Denn die Armen habt ihr immer bei euch, mich aber habt ihr nicht immer.
12 For in pouring this ointment on my body, she has prepared for my burial.	12 Als sie das Öl über mich goss, hat sie meinen Leib für das Begräbnis gesalbt.
13 Amen I say to you, wherever this Gospel will be preached in the whole world, what she has done also shall be told, in memory of her.”	13 Amen, ich sage euch: Überall auf der Welt, wo dieses Evangelium verkündet wird, wird man sich an sie erinnern und erzählen, was sie getan hat.
14 Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the leaders of the priests,	14 Darauf ging einer der Zwölf namens Judas Iskariot zu den Hohenpriestern
15 and he said to them, “What are you willing to give me, if I hand him over to you?” So they appointed thirty pieces of silver for him.	15 und sagte: Was wollt ihr mir geben, wenn ich euch Jesus ausliefere? Und sie zahlten ihm dreißig Silberstücke.
16 And from then on, he sought an opportunity to betray him.	16 Von da an suchte er nach einer Gelegenheit, ihn auszuliefern.
17 Then, on the first day of Unleavened Bread, the disciples approached Jesus, saying, “Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?”	17 Am ersten Tag des Festes der Ungesäuerten Brote gingen die Jünger zu Jesus und fragten: Wo sollen wir das Paschamahl für dich vorbereiten?
18 So Jesus said, “Go into the city, to a certain one, and say to him: ‘The Teacher said: My time is near. I am observing the Passover with you, along with my disciples.’ ”	18 Er antwortete: Geht in die Stadt zu dem und dem und sagt zu ihm: Der Meister lässt dir sagen: Meine Zeit ist da; bei dir will ich mit meinen Jüngern das Paschamahl feiern.
19 And the disciples did just as Jesus appointed to them. And they prepared the Passover.	19 Die Jünger taten, was Jesus ihnen aufgetragen hatte, und bereiteten das Paschamahl vor.
20 Then, when evening arrived, he sat at table with his twelve disciples.	20 Als es Abend wurde, begab er sich mit den zwölf Jüngern zu Tisch.
21 And while they were eating, he said: “Amen I say to you, that one of you is about to betray me.”	21 Und während sie aßen, sprach er: Amen, ich sage euch: Einer von euch wird mich verraten und ausliefern.
22 And being greatly saddened, each one of them began to say, “Surely, it is not I, Lord?”	22 Da waren sie sehr betroffen und einer nach dem andern fragte ihn: Bin ich es etwa, Herr?
23 But he responded by saying: “He who dips his hand with me into the dish, the same will betray me.	23 Er antwortete: Der, der die Hand mit mir in die Schüssel getaucht hat, wird mich verraten.
24 Indeed, the Son of man goes, just as it has been written about him. But woe to that man by whom the Son of man will be betrayed. It would be better for that man if he had not been born.”	24 Der Menschensohn muss zwar seinen Weg gehen, wie die Schrift über ihn sagt. Doch weh dem Menschen, durch den der Menschensohn verraten wird. Für ihn wäre es besser, wenn er nie geboren wäre.
25 Then Judas, who betrayed him, responded by saying, “Surely, it is not I, Master?” He said to him, “You have said it.”	25 Da fragte Judas, der ihn verriet: Bin ich es etwa, Rabbi? Jesus sagte zu ihm: Du sagst es.
26 Now while they were eating the meal, Jesus took bread, and he blessed and broke and gave it to his disciples, and he said: “Take and eat. This is my body.”	26 Während des Mahls nahm Jesus das Brot und sprach den Lobpreis; dann brach er das Brot, reichte es den Jüngern und sagte: Nehmt und esst; das ist mein Leib.
27 And taking the chalice, he gave thanks. And he gave it to them, saying: “Drink from this, all of you.	27 Dann nahm er den Kelch, sprach das Dankgebet und reichte ihn den Jüngern mit den Worten: Trinkt alle daraus;
28 For this is my blood of the new covenant, which shall be shed for many as a remission of sins.	28 das ist mein Blut, das Blut des Bundes, das für viele vergossen wird zur Vergebung der Sünden.
29 But I say to you, I will not drink again from this fruit of the vine, until that day when I will drink it new with you in the kingdom of my Father.”	29 Ich sage euch: Von jetzt an werde ich nicht mehr von der Frucht des Weinstocks trinken bis zu dem Tag, an dem ich mit euch von neuem davon trinke im Reich meines Vaters.
30 And after a hymn was sung, they went out to the Mount of Olives.	30 Nach dem Lobgesang gingen sie zum Ölberg hinaus.
31 Then Jesus said to them: “You will all fall away from me in this night. For it has been written: ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’	31 Da sagte Jesus zu ihnen: Ihr alle werdet in dieser Nacht an mir Anstoß nehmen und zu Fall kommen; denn in der Schrift steht: Ich werde den Hirten erschlagen, dann werden sich die Schafe der Herde zerstreuen.
32 But after I have risen again, I will go before you to Galilee.”	32 Aber nach meiner Auferstehung werde ich euch nach Galiläa vorausgehen.
33 Then Peter responded by saying to him, “Even if everyone else has fallen away from you, I will never fall away.”	33 Petrus erwiderte ihm: Und wenn alle an dir Anstoß nehmen - ich niemals!
34 Jesus said to him, “Amen I say to you, that in this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.”	34 Jesus entgegnete ihm: Amen, ich sage dir: In dieser Nacht, noch ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen.
35 Peter said to him, “Even if it is necessary for me to die with you, I will not deny you.” And all the disciples spoke similarly.	35 Da sagte Petrus zu ihm: Und wenn ich mit dir sterben müsste - ich werde dich nie verleugnen. Das Gleiche sagten auch alle anderen Jünger.
36 Then Jesus went with them to a garden, which is called Gethsemani. And he said to his disciples, “Sit down here, while I go there and pray.”	36 Darauf kam Jesus mit den Jüngern zu einem Grundstück, das man Getsemani nennt, und sagte zu ihnen: Setzt euch und wartet hier, während ich dort bete.
37 And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and saddened.	37 Und er nahm Petrus und die beiden Söhne des Zebedäus mit sich. Da ergriff ihn Angst und Traurigkeit,
38 Then he said to them: “My soul is sorrowful, even unto death. Stay here and keep vigil with me.”	38 und er sagte zu ihnen: Meine Seele ist zu Tode betrübt. Bleibt hier und wacht mit mir!
39 And continuing on a little further, he fell prostrate on his face, praying and saying: “My Father, if it is possible, let this chalice pass away from me. Yet truly, let it not be as I will, but as you will.”	39 Und er ging ein Stück weiter, warf sich zu Boden und betete: Mein Vater, wenn es möglich ist, gehe dieser Kelch an mir vorüber. Aber nicht wie ich will, sondern wie du willst.
40 And he approached his disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter: “So, were you not able to keep vigil with me for one hour?	40 Und er ging zu den Jüngern zurück und fand sie schlafend. Da sagte er zu Petrus: Konntet ihr nicht einmal eine Stunde mit mir wachen?
41 Be vigilant and pray, so that you may not enter into temptation. Indeed, the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”	41 Wacht und betet, damit ihr nicht in Versuchung geratet. Der Geist ist willig, aber das Fleisch ist schwach.
42 Again, a second time, he went and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this chalice cannot pass away, unless I drink it, let your will be done.”	42 Dann ging er zum zweiten Mal weg und betete: Mein Vater, wenn dieser Kelch an mir nicht vorübergehen kann, ohne dass ich ihn trinke, geschehe dein Wille.
43 And again, he went and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.	43 Als er zurückkam, fand er sie wieder schlafend, denn die Augen waren ihnen zugefallen.
44 And leaving them behind, again he went and prayed for the third time, saying the same words.	44 Und er ging wieder von ihnen weg und betete zum dritten Mal mit den gleichen Worten.
45 Then he approached his disciples and said to them: “Sleep now and rest. Behold, the hour has drawn near, and the Son of man will be delivered into the hands of sinners.	45 Danach kehrte er zu den Jüngern zurück und sagte zu ihnen: Schlaft ihr immer noch und ruht euch aus? Die Stunde ist gekommen; jetzt wird der Menschensohn den Sündern ausgeliefert.
46 Rise up; let us go. Behold, he who will betray me draws near.”	46 Steht auf, wir wollen gehen! Seht, der Verräter, der mich ausliefert, ist da.
47 While he was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, arrived, and with him was a large crowd with swords and clubs, sent from the leaders of the priests and the elders of the people.	47 Während er noch redete, kam Judas, einer der Zwölf, mit einer großen Schar von Männern, die mit Schwertern und Knüppeln bewaffnet waren; sie waren von den Hohenpriestern und den Ältesten des Volkes geschickt worden.
48 And he who betrayed him gave them a sign, saying: “Whomever I will kiss, it is he. Take hold of him.”	48 Der Verräter hatte mit ihnen ein Zeichen verabredet und gesagt: Der, den ich küssen werde, der ist es; nehmt ihn fest.
49 And quickly drawing close to Jesus, he said, “Hail, Master.” And he kissed him.	49 Sogleich ging er auf Jesus zu und sagte: Sei gegrüßt, Rabbi! Und er küsste ihn.
50 And Jesus said to him, “Friend, for what purpose have you come?” Then they approached, and they put their hands on Jesus, and they held him.	50 Jesus erwiderte ihm: Freund, dazu bist du gekommen? Da gingen sie auf Jesus zu, ergriffen ihn und nahmen ihn fest.
51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus, extending his hand, drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.	51 Doch einer von den Begleitern Jesu zog sein Schwert, schlug auf den Diener des Hohenpriesters ein und hieb ihm ein Ohr ab.
52 Then Jesus said to him: “Put your sword back in its place. For all who take up the sword shall perish by the sword.	52 Da sagte Jesus zu ihm: Steck dein Schwert in die Scheide; denn alle, die zum Schwert greifen, werden durch das Schwert umkommen.
53 Or do you think that I cannot ask my Father, so that he would give me, even now, more than twelve legions of Angels?	53 Oder glaubst du nicht, mein Vater würde mir sogleich mehr als zwölf Legionen Engel schicken, wenn ich ihn darum bitte?
54 How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must be so?”	54 Wie würde dann aber die Schrift erfüllt, nach der es so geschehen muss?
55 In that same hour, Jesus said to the crowds: “You went out, as if to a robber, with swords and clubs to seize me. Yet I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and you did not take hold of me.	55 Darauf sagte Jesus zu den Männern: Wie gegen einen Räuber seid ihr mit Schwertern und Knüppeln ausgezogen, um mich festzunehmen. Tag für Tag saß ich im Tempel und lehrte und ihr habt mich nicht verhaftet.
56 But all this has happened so that the Scriptures of the prophets may be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples fled, abandoning him.	56 Das alles aber ist geschehen, damit die Schriften der Propheten in Erfüllung gehen. Da verließen ihn alle Jünger und flohen.
57 But those who were holding Jesus led him to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had joined together.	57 Nach der Verhaftung führte man Jesus zum Hohenpriester Kajaphas, bei dem sich die Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten versammelt hatten.
58 Then Peter followed him from a distance, as far as the court of the high priest. And going inside, he sat down with the servants, so that he might see the end.	58 Petrus folgte Jesus von weitem bis zum Hof des hohepriesterlichen Palastes; er ging in den Hof hinein und setzte sich zu den Dienern, um zu sehen, wie alles ausgehen würde.
59 Then the leaders of the priests and the entire council sought false testimony against Jesus, so that they might deliver him to death.	59 Die Hohenpriester und der ganze Hohe Rat bemühten sich um falsche Zeugenaussagen gegen Jesus, um ihn zum Tod verurteilen zu können.
60 And they did not find any, even though many false witnesses had come forward. Then, at the very end, two false witnesses came forward,	60 Sie erreichten aber nichts, obwohl viele falsche Zeugen auftraten. Zuletzt kamen zwei Männer
61 and they said, “This man said: ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God, and, after three days, to rebuild it.’ ”	61 und behaupteten: Er hat gesagt: Ich kann den Tempel Gottes niederreißen und in drei Tagen wieder aufbauen.
62 And the high priest, rising up, said to him, “Have you nothing to respond to what these ones testify against you?”	62 Da stand der Hohepriester auf und fragte Jesus: Willst du nichts sagen zu dem, was diese Leute gegen dich vorbringen?
63 But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him, “I bind you by an oath to the living God to tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.”	63 Jesus aber schwieg. Darauf sagte der Hohepriester zu ihm: Ich beschwöre dich bei dem lebendigen Gott, sag uns: Bist du der Messias, der Sohn Gottes?
64 Jesus said to him: “You have said it. Yet truly I say to you, hereafter you shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the power of God, and coming on the clouds of heaven.”	64 Jesus antwortete: Du hast es gesagt. Doch ich erkläre euch: Von nun an werdet ihr den Menschensohn zur Rechten der Macht sitzen und auf den Wolken des Himmels kommen sehen.
65 Then the high priest tore his garments, saying: “He has blasphemed. Why do we still need witnesses? Behold, you have now heard the blasphemy.	65 Da zerriss der Hohepriester sein Gewand und rief: Er hat Gott gelästert! Wozu brauchen wir noch Zeugen? Jetzt habt ihr die Gotteslästerung selbst gehört.
66 How does it seem to you?” So they responded by saying, “He is guilty unto death.”	66 Was ist eure Meinung? Sie antworteten: Er ist schuldig und muss sterben.
67 Then they spit in his face, and they struck him with fists. And others struck his face with the palms of their hands,	67 Dann spuckten sie ihm ins Gesicht und schlugen ihn. Andere ohrfeigten ihn
68 saying: “Prophesy for us, O Christ. Who is the one that struck you?”	68 und riefen: Messias, du bist doch ein Prophet! Sag uns: Wer hat dich geschlagen?
69 Yet truly, Peter sat outside in the courtyard. And a maidservant approached him, saying, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.”	69 Petrus aber saß draußen im Hof. Da trat eine Magd zu ihm und sagte: Auch du warst mit diesem Jesus aus Galiläa zusammen.
70 But he denied it in the sight of them all, saying, “I do not know what you are saying.”	70 Doch er leugnete es vor allen Leuten und sagte: Ich weiß nicht, wovon du redest.
71 Then, as he exited by the gate, another maidservant saw him. And she said to those who were there, “This man also was with Jesus of Nazareth.”	71 Und als er zum Tor hinausgehen wollte, sah ihn eine andere Magd und sagte zu denen, die dort standen: Der war mit Jesus aus Nazaret zusammen.
72 And again, he denied it with an oath, “For I do not know the man.”	72 Wieder leugnete er und schwor: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht.
73 And after a little while, those who were standing nearby came and said to Peter: “Truly, you also are one of them. For even your manner of speaking reveals you.”	73 Kurz darauf kamen die Leute, die dort standen, zu Petrus und sagten: Wirklich, auch du gehörst zu ihnen, deine Mundart verrät dich.
74 Then he began to curse and to swear that he had not known the man. And immediately the rooster crowed.	74 Da fing er an, sich zu verfluchen und schwor: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht. Gleich darauf krähte ein Hahn,
75 And Peter remembered the words of Jesus, which he had said: “Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And going outside, he wept bitterly.	75 und Petrus erinnerte sich an das, was Jesus gesagt hatte: Ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen. Und er ging hinaus und weinte bitterlich.
