1 And the sermon of Tobit was completed. And after Tobit received his sight, he lived forty-two years, and he saw the sons of his grandchildren.	1 Qui finirono le parole del canto di Tobi.
2 And so, having completed one hundred and two years, he was buried honorably at Nineveh.	2 Tobi morì in pace all'età di centododici anni e fu sepolto con onore a Ninive. Egli aveva sessantadue anni quando divenne cieco; dopo la sua guarigione visse nella felicità, praticò l'elemosina e continuò sempre a benedire Dio e a celebrare la sua grandezza.
3 For he was fifty-six years old, when he lost the light of his eyes, and he was sixty years old, when he truly received it again.	3 Quando stava per morire, fece venire il figlio Tobia e gli diede queste istruzioni:
4 And, in truth, the remainder of his life was in gladness. And so, with the good accomplishment of the fear of God, he departed in peace.	4 "Figlio, porta via i tuoi figli e rifugiati in Media, perché io credo alla parola di Dio, che Nahum ha pronunziato su Ninive. Tutto dovrà accadere, tutto si realizzerà sull'Assiria e su Ninive, come hanno predetto i profeti d'Israele, che Dio ha inviati; non una delle loro parole cadrà. Ogni cosa capiterà a suo tempo. Vi sarà maggior sicurezza in Media che in Assiria o in Babilonia. Perché io so e credo che quanto Dio ha detto si compirà e avverrà e non cadrà una sola parola delle profezie. I nostri fratelli che abitano il paese d'Israele saranno tutti dispersi e deportati lontano dal loro bel paese e tutto il paese d'Israele sarà ridotto a un deserto. Anche Samaria e Gerusalemme diventeranno un deserto e il tempio di Dio sarà nell'afflizione e resterà bruciato fino ad un certo tempo.
5 But, in the hour of his death, he called to himself his son Tobias, along with his sons, the seven youths who were his grandsons, and he said to them:	5 Poi di nuovo Dio avrà pietà di loro e li ricondurrà nel paese d'Israele. Essi ricostruiranno il tempio, ma non uguale al primo, finché sarà completo il computo dei tempi. Dopo, torneranno tutti dall'esilio e ricostruiranno Gerusalemme nella sua magnificenza e il tempio di Dio sarà ricostruito, come hanno preannunziato i profeti di Israele.
6 “Nineveh will pass away soon. For the word of the Lord goes forward, and our brothers, who have been dispersed away from the land of Israel, shall return to it.	6 Tutte le genti che si trovano su tutta la terra si convertiranno e temeranno Dio nella verità. Tutti abbandoneranno i loro idoli, che li hanno fatti errare nella menzogna, e benediranno il Dio dei secoli nella giustizia.
7 Thus its deserted land will be entirely filled again. And the house of God, which was burned like incense within it, will be rebuilt again. And all those who fear God will return there.	7 Tutti gli Israeliti che saranno scampati in quei giorni e si ricorderanno di Dio con sincerità, si raduneranno e verranno a Gerusalemme e per sempre abiteranno tranquilli il paese di Abramo, che sarà dato in loro possesso. Coloro che amano Dio nella verità gioiranno; coloro invece che commettono il peccato e l'ingiustizia spariranno da tutta la terra.
8 And the Gentiles will relinquish their idols, and they will enter into Jerusalem, and they will dwell in it.	8 Ora, figli, vi comando: servite Dio nella verità e fate ciò che a lui piace. Anche ai vostri figli insegnate l'obbligo di fare la giustizia e l'elemosina, di ricordarsi di Dio, di benedire il suo nome sempre, nella verità e con tutte le forze.
9 And all the kings of the earth will rejoice in it, adoring the King of Israel.	9 Tu dunque, figlio, parti da Ninive, non restare più qui. Dopo aver sepolto tua madre presso di me, quel giorno stesso non devi più restare entro i confini di Ninive. Vedo infatti trionfare in essa molta ingiustizia e grande perfidia e neppure se ne vergognano.
10 Therefore, my sons, listen to your father. Serve the Lord in truth, and seek to do the things that please him.	10 Vedi, figlio, quanto ha fatto Nadab al padre adottivo Achikar. Non è stato egli costretto a scendere vivente sotto terra? Ma Dio ha rigettato l'infamia in faccia al colpevole: Achikar ritornò alla luce mentre invece Nadab entrò nelle tenebre eterne, perché aveva cercato di far morire Achikar. Per aver praticato l'elemosina, Achikar sfuggì al laccio mortale che gli aveva teso Nadab, Nadab invece cadde in quel laccio, che lo fece perire.
11 And command your sons, so that they may accomplish justice and almsgiving, and so that they may be mindful of God and may bless him at all times, in truth and with all their strength.	11 Così, figli miei, vedete dove conduce l'elemosina e dove conduce l'iniquità: essa conduce alla morte. Ma ecco, mi sfugge il respiro!". Essi lo distesero sul letto; morì e fu sepolto con onore.
12 And now, sons, listen to me, and do not remain here. But, on whatever day you will bury your mother near me in one sepulcher, from that time, direct your steps to leave this place.	12 Quando morì la madre, Tobia la seppellì vicino al padre, poi partì per la Media con la moglie e i figli. Abitò in Ecbàtana, presso Raguele suo suocero.
13 For I see that its iniquity will bring about its end.”	13 Curò con onore i suoceri nella loro vecchiaia e li seppellì a Ecbàtana in Media.
14 And it happened that, after the death of his mother, Tobias withdrew from Nineveh, with his wife, and sons, and sons of sons, and he was returned to his father-in-law.	14 Tobia ereditò il patrimonio di Raguele come ereditò quello del padre Tobi. Morì da tutti stimato all'età di centodiciassette anni.
15 And he found them unharmed in a good old age. And he took care of them, and he closed their eyes. And all the inheritance of the house of Raguel passed to him. And he saw the sons of his sons to the fifth generation.	15 Prima di morire sentì parlare della rovina di Ninive e vide i prigionieri che venivano deportati in Media per opera di Achiacar re della Media. Benedisse allora Dio per quanto aveva fatto nei confronti degli abitanti di Ninive e dell'Assiria. Prima di morire poté dunque gioire della sorte di Ninive e benedisse il Signore Dio nei secoli dei secoli.
16 And, having completed ninety-nine years in the fear of the Lord, with joy, they buried him.
17 But all his family and all his lineage continued with a good life and in holy conversation, so that they were acceptable both to God and to men, as well as to everyone who dwelt in the land.
