1 Then Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, returned in peace to his house in Jerusalem.	1 Giosafat, re di Giuda, ritornò incolume a casa sua a Gerusalemme.
2 And the seer Jehu, the son of Hanani, met him, and said to him: “You offer assistance to the impious, and you are joined in friendship with those who hate the Lord. And for this reason, you certainly deserve the wrath of the Lord.	2 Il veggente Ieu, figlio di Canani, gli mosse incontro e disse al re Giosafat: "Era forse necessario aiutare un empio? Tu ami quelli che odiano il Signore? Per questo è sopra di te lo sdegno da parte del Signore.
3 But good works have been found in you. For you have taken away the sacred groves from the land of Judah. And you have prepared your heart, so as to seek the Lord, the God of your fathers.”	3 Tuttavia si riscontrano in te azioni buone, perché hai bruciato i pali sacri nel paese e hai rivolto il tuo cuore alla ricerca di Dio".
4 Then Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem. And again he went out to the people, from Beersheba as far as mount Ephraim. And he called them back to the Lord, the God of their fathers.	4 Giosafat, dopo un soggiorno a Gerusalemme, si recò di nuovo tra il popolo da Bersabea fino alla montagna di Efraim, riconducendolo al Signore, Dio dei loro padri.
5 And he appointed judges of the land, in all the fortified cities of Judah, in each place.	5 Egli stabilì dei giudici nel paese, in tutte le città fortificate di Giuda, città per città.
6 And instructing the judges, he said: “Pay attention to what you are doing. For you exercise judgment, not of man, but of the Lord. And whatever you will have judged, it will come back to you.	6 Ai giudici ordinò: "Badate a ciò che fate, perché non giudicate per gli uomini, ma per il Signore, che è con voi, quando fate giustizia.
7 Let the fear of the Lord be with you, and do all things with diligence. For there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor desire for gifts.”	7 Ebbene, il timore di Dio sia sopra di voi. Nell'agire ricordate che nel Signore, nostro Dio, non c'è malvagità né preferenza di persone né corruzione con doni".
8 Jehoshaphat also appointed Levites and priests and leaders of families, out of Israel, in Jerusalem, so that they might judge the judgment and purpose of the Lord for its inhabitants.	8 Anche in Gerusalemme Giosafat costituì alcuni leviti, sacerdoti e capifamiglia d'Israele per il giudizio del Signore e per dirimere le contese degli abitanti di Gerusalemme.
9 And he instructed them, saying, “So shall you act: faithfully, in the fear of the Lord, and with a perfect heart.	9 Egli ordinò loro: "Agirete nel timore del Signore, secondo verità e col cuore integro.
10 Every case that will come to you from your brothers, who live in their cities, between kindred and kindred, wherever there is a question concerning law, commandment, ceremonies, or justifications, reveal it to them, so that they may not sin against the Lord, and so that wrath may not overwhelm you and your brothers. Then, by acting in this way, you will not sin.	10 In ogni causa che venga portata davanti a voi da parte dei vostri fratelli che abitano nelle loro città, si tratti di vendetta di sangue o una questione concernente la legge o un comandamento, precetti o sentenze, istruiteli in modo che non si rendano colpevoli davanti al Signore e la sua ira non cada sopra di voi e sopra i vostri fratelli. Agite così e non vi renderete colpevoli.
11 But Amariah, a priest and your high priest, shall preside over those things which pertain to God. Then Zebadiah, the son of Ishmael, who is a ruler in the house of Judah, shall be over those works that pertain to the office of the king. And you have before you the Levites as teachers. Be strengthened and act diligently, and the Lord will be with you for what is good.”	11 Ecco, Amaria, sommo sacerdote, sarà preposto a voi per ogni causa che riguarda il Signore, mentre Zebadia, figlio d'Ismaele, principe della casa di Giuda, lo sarà per ogni causa riguardante il re; avrete a vostra disposizione i leviti come scribi. Coraggio e all'opera! Il Signore sarà con l'uomo dabbene".
