1 Naaman, the army commander of the king of Aram, was highly esteemed and respected by his master, for through him the LORD had brought victory to Aram. But valiant as he was, the man was a leper.	1 Námán, Szíria királyának hadvezére, nagy és tekintélyes ember volt ura előtt, mert általa adott az Úr győzelmet Szíriának. Vitéz és gazdag ember volt, de poklos.
2 Now the Arameans had captured from the land of Israel in a raid a little girl, who became the servant of Naaman's wife.	2 Egyszer azonban portyázni mentek a szíriaiak, s foglyul ejtettek Izrael földjéről egy kislányt. Ez Námán feleségének szolgálatába jutott
3 "If only my master would present himself to the prophet in Samaria," she said to her mistress, "he would cure him of his leprosy."	3 és azt mondta asszonyának: »Bárcsak lett volna az én uram annál a prófétánál, aki Szamariában van. Biztosan meggyógyította volna a poklosságtól, amelyben van.«
4 Naaman went and told his lord just what the slave girl from the land of Israel had said.	4 Námán erre bement urához s elbeszélte neki: »Így s így szólt az az Izrael földjéről való lány.«
5 "Go," said the king of Aram. "I will send along a letter to the king of Israel." So Naaman set out, taking along ten silver talents, six thousand gold pieces, and ten festal garments.	5 Azt mondta erre neki Szíria királya: »Eredj el s én majd küldök egy levelet Izrael királyának.« Az, miután elment és magával vitt tíz talentum ezüstöt, hatezer aranyat s tíz váltóruhát,
6 To the king of Israel he brought the letter, which read: "With this letter I am sending my servant Naaman to you, that you may cure him of his leprosy."	6 elvitte a levelet Izrael királyának. Ezek a szavak voltak benne: »Ha e levelet megkapod, tudd, hogy hozzád küldtem szolgámat, Námánt, hogy meggyógyítsd poklosságából.«
7 When he read the letter, the king of Israel tore his garments and exclaimed: "Am I a god with power over life and death, that this man should send someone to me to be cured of leprosy? Take note! You can see he is only looking for a quarrel with me!"	7 Amikor Izrael királya elolvasta a levelet, megszaggatta ruháját s azt mondta: »Isten vagyok-e én, hogy ölni s életet adni tudjak, hogy ez hozzám küld, hogy meggyógyítsak valakit poklosságából? Észrevehetitek s láthatjátok, hogy csak ürügyet keres ellenem.«
8 When Elisha, the man of God, heard that the king of Israel had torn his garments, he sent word to the king: "Why have you torn your garments? Let him come to me and find out that there is a prophet in Israel."	8 Amikor ezt Elizeus, az Isten embere meghallotta, azt tudniillik, hogy Izrael királya megszaggatta ruháját, elküldött hozzá ezzel az üzenettel: »Miért szaggattad meg ruháidat? Jöjjön hozzám, s tudja meg, hogy van próféta Izraelben.«
9 Naaman came with his horses and chariots and stopped at the door of Elisha's house.	9 Odament tehát Námán, lovaival és szekereivel együtt, és megállt Elizeus házának ajtaja előtt.
10 The prophet sent him the message: "Go and wash seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will heal, and you will be clean."	10 Ekkor Elizeus követet küldött ki hozzá ezzel az üzenettel: »Menj s fürödj meg hétszer a Jordánban, s akkor tested visszanyeri egészségét s megtisztulsz.«
11 But Naaman went away angry, saying, "I thought that he would surely come out and stand there to invoke the LORD his God, and would move his hand over the spot, and thus cure the leprosy.	11 Megharagudott erre Námán, elment, és ezt mondta: »Azt hittem, hogy ki fog jönni hozzám, megáll, segítségül hívja az Úrnak, Istenének nevét, megérinti kezével a poklosság helyét s meggyógyít.
12 Are not the rivers of Damascus, the Abana and the Pharpar, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be cleansed?" With this, he turned about in anger and left.	12 Hát nem jobbak-e az Abána és a Fárfár, Damaszkusz folyói, Izrael valamennyi vizénél arra, hogy bennük megfürödjem és megtisztuljak?« Amikor azonban megfordult s bosszankodva elment,
13 But his servants came up and reasoned with him. "My father," they said, "if the prophet had told you to do something extraordinary, would you not have done it? All the more now, since he said to you, 'Wash and be clean,' should you do as he said."	13 eléje járultak szolgái s így szóltak hozzá: »Apám, ha nagy dolgot mondott volna is neked a próféta, bizonyára meg kellett volna tenned. Mennyivel inkább, hogy most csak azt mondta neked: ‘Fürödj meg és megtisztulsz.’«
14 So Naaman went down and plunged into the Jordan seven times at the word of the man of God. His flesh became again like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.	14 Lement s megfürdött hétszer a Jordánban az Isten emberének szava szerint, s ismét olyan lett a teste, mint egy kis gyermek teste, és megtisztult.
15 He returned with his whole retinue to the man of God. On his arrival he stood before him and said, "Now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel. Please accept a gift from your servant."	15 Erre visszatért az Isten emberéhez egész kíséretével együtt s bement s megállt előtte s azt mondta: »Immár tudom, hogy nincs másutt Isten az egész földön, hanem csakis Izraelben. Kérlek tehát, fogadj el áldomást szolgádtól.«
16 "As the LORD lives whom I serve, I will not take it," Elisha replied; and despite Naaman's urging, he still refused.	16 Ám ő azt felelte: »Az Úr életére mondom, aki előtt szolgálok, hogy nem fogadok el.« Nem is engedett semmiképpen sem, pedig unszolta.
17 Naaman said: "If you will not accept, please let me, your servant, have two mule-loads of earth, for I will no longer offer holocaust or sacrifice to any other god except to the LORD.	17 Végre Námán azt mondta: »Hát ahogy akarod; de kérlek, engedd meg nekem, szolgádnak, hogy vehessek e földből annyit, amennyit egy öszvérpár elbír, mert nem mutat be többé szolgád egészen elégő áldozatot vagy békeáldozatot más isteneknek, hanem csak az Úrnak.
18 But I trust the LORD will forgive your servant this: when my master enters the temple of Rimmon to worship there, then I, too, as his adjutant, must bow down in the temple of Rimmon. May the LORD forgive your servant this."	18 Csak ebben az egy dologban engeszteld az Urat szolgád érdekében: amikor uram bemegy Remmon templomába, hogy ott leboruljon s a kezemre támaszkodik, ha én is leborulok Remmon templomában, amikor ő ott leborul – nézze el az Úr nekem, szolgádnak ezt a dolgot.«
19 "Go in peace," Elisha said to him.	19 Ő azt mondta neki: »Eredj békességben.« Erre ő eltávozott tőle a föld legkiválóbb idejében.
20 Naaman had gone some distance when Gehazi, the servant of Elisha, the man of God, thought to himself: "My master was too easy with this Aramean Naaman, not accepting what he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something out of him."	20 Azt mondta ekkor magában Giezi, az Isten emberének legénye: »Megkímélte uram ezt a szíriai Námánt, hogy nem fogadta el tőle, amit hozott: az Úr életére mondom, hogy utána futok és szerzek tőle valamit.«
21 So Gehazi hurried after Naaman. Aware that someone was running after him, Naaman alighted from his chariot to wait for him. "Is everything all right?" he asked.	21 Utána is eredt Giezi Námánnak. Amikor ez meglátta, hogy feléje fut, leugrott szekeréről elébe s azt mondta: »Rendben van-e minden?«
22 "Yes," Gehazi replied, "but my master sent me to say, 'Two young men have just come to me, guild prophets from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two festal garments.'"	22 Ő azt mondta: »Rendben.« Uram küldött hozzád s üzeni: »Épp most jött hozzám két ifjú Efraim hegységéből, a prófétafiak közül. Adj számukra egy talentum ezüstöt s két öltözet ruhát.«
23 "Please take two talents," Naaman said, and pressed them upon him. He tied up these silver talents in bags and gave them, with the two festal garments, to two of his servants, who carried them before Gehazi.	23 Azt mondta erre Námán: »Jobb lesz, ha két talentumot veszel.« Rá is erőszakolta s bekötött két talentum ezüstöt két zsákba és két váltóruhát s rátette két legényére, s azok el is vitték előtte.
24 When they reached the hill, Gehazi took what they had, carried it into the house, and sent the men on their way.	24 Amikor aztán már estefelé megérkezett, elvette kezükből s félretette a házban s elbocsátotta az embereket s azok elmentek,
25 He went in and stood before Elisha his master, who asked him, "Where have you been, Gehazi?" He answered, "Your servant has not gone anywhere."	25 ő pedig bement s ura elé állt. Azt mondta ekkor Elizeus: »Honnan jössz, Giezi?« Ő azt felelte: »Nem volt el szolgád sehol sem.«
26 But Elisha said to him: "Was I not present in spirit when the man alighted from his chariot to wait for you? Is this a time to take money or to take garments, olive orchards or vineyards, sheep or cattle, male or female servants?	26 Ő azonban azt mondta: »Nem volt-e jelen az én szívem, amikor az az ember visszafordult szekeréről feléd? Nos tehát, szereztél ezüstöt és szereztél ruhákat, hogy olajkerteket, szőlőket, juhokat, barmokat, rabszolgákat és rabszolgálókat vásárolj,
27 The leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and your descendants forever." And Gehazi left Elisha, a leper white as snow.	27 de Námán poklossága is rád s ivadékodra ragad mindörökre.« Poklosságtól hófehéren ment is ki előle.
