Geremia 5

1 Girate per le vie di Gerusalemme, e guardate, e considerate, e cercate per le sue piazze se trovate un uomo, che faccia quello, che è giusto, e che cerchi di esser fedele: ed io farò a lei misericordia.	1 “Travel the streets of Jerusalem; and gaze, and consider, and seek, in its wide streets. If you can find a man exercising judgment and seeking faith, then I will be forgiving to them.
2 Ma eglino se ancor diranno: Vive il Signore, giureranno anche cosi il falso.	2 For even though they say, ‘As the Lord lives,’ in this, too, they swear falsely.”
3 Signore, gli occhi tuoi mirano la fede: tu hai percossi costoro, e non sentiron dolore: li flagellasti, e non vollero ammettere correzione: indurarono la loro faccia più di una pietra, e non hanno voluto tornare a te.	3 O Lord, your eyes look with favor upon faith. You have struck them, and they have not grieved. You have bruised them, and they have refused to accept discipline. They have hardened their faces more than rock, and they are not willing to return.
4 Ed io dissi: Forse sono i poveri, e gl' idioti que', che non conoscon la via del Signore, e i giudizj del loro Dio.	4 But I said: Perhaps these are the poor and the senseless, who are ignorant of the way of the Lord, of the judgment of their God.
5 Io adunque anderò ai principi, e ad essi parlerò: imperocché eglino conoscon la via del Signore, e i giudizj del loro Dio. Ma ecco, che questi anche peggio spezzarono tutti insieme il giogo, strapparono il freno.	5 Therefore, I will go to great men, and I will speak with them. For they have known the way of the Lord, the judgment of their God. And behold, these ones have broken the yoke all the more; they have torn apart the bonds.
6 Per questo il lione della foresta gli ha sbranati, il lupo alla sera gli ha sterminati: il pardo sta vigilante intorno alle loro città: tutti quelli, che da esse usciranno, saranno presi; perchè si sono moltiplicate le loro prevaricazioni, e si sono ostinati nelle lor ribellioni.	6 For this reason, a lion from the forest has struck them down, a wolf toward evening has laid waste to them, a leopard lies in wait over their cities. All who go out from there will be taken. For their transgressions have been multiplied; their rebellions have been strengthened.
7 Per qual titolo potrò io essere propizio a te? i tuoi figliuoli mi hanno abbandonato, e giurano per quegli, che non son dei: io gli ho satollati, ed essi hanno fornicato, e nella casa di donna infame gozzovigliavano.	7 “Over which things am I able to be merciful to you? Your sons have forsaken me, and they swear by those who are not gods. I gave them everything, and they committed adultery, and they indulged themselves in the house of the harlot.
8 Son divenuti come cavalli stalloni quando son in calore: ognuno di essi nitrisce verso la moglie nel prossimo suo.	8 They have become like wild horses in heat; each one was neighing after his neighbor’s wife.
9 Forse, che io non punirò tali cose, dice il Signore, e l'anima mia non farà vendetta di una nazione come questa?	9 Shall I not visit against these things, says the Lord? And shall my soul not take vengeance on a nation such as this?
10 Salite sulle mura di lei, e abbattetele, ma non fate fine di essa: toglietele sue propaggini, perchè elle non son del Signore;	10 Scale its walls and tear them down. But do not be willing to bring about its very end. Take away its plantings, for they are not the Lord’s.
11 Imperocché ha' peccato forte contro di me la casa d'Israele, e la casa di Giuda, dice il Signore.	11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have greatly transgressed against me, says the Lord.
12 Hanno rinegato il Signore, ed hanno detto: Non è egli: e non verrà sciagura sopra di noi: non vedremo spada, né fame.	12 They have denied the Lord, and they have said, ‘It is not him,’ and, ‘Evil will not overwhelm us. We will not see famine and the sword.’
13 I profeti parlavano in aria, e non ebber essi risposta da Dio. Ad essi adunque avverran cose tali.	13 The prophets have spoken into the wind, and there was no answer with them. Therefore, these things will happen to them.”
14 Queste cose dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti: Perchè voi avete proferita questa parola; ecco, che io (o Geremia) pongo nella tua bocca le mie parole qual fuoco, e questo popolo come legno, che ne sarà divorato.	14 Thus says the Lord, the God of hosts: “Since you have spoken this word, behold, I will make my words in your mouth like fire and this people like wood, and it will devour them.
15 Ecco, che io farò venir sopra di voi, o casa d'Israele, una nazione lontana, dice il Signore, una nazione robusta, una nazione antica, una nazione, di cui non saprai la lingua, né capirai quel, che ella ti dica.	15 Behold, O house of Israel, I will lead over you a far away nation, says the Lord, a robust nation, an ancient nation, a nation whose language you will not know, nor will you understand what they are saying.
16 Il suo turcasso è come un sepolcro aperto: ei son tutti valorosi.	16 Their quiver is like an open sepulcher. They are all strong.
17 Ella mangerà le tue raccolte, e il tuo pane: divorerà i tuoi figliuoli, e le tue figlie: si nutrirà de' tuoi greggi, e de' tuoi armenti: spoglierà le tue vigne, e le piante di fichi: e rovinerà colla spada alla mano le tue città forti, nelle quali ponevi fidanza.	17 And they will consume your grain fields and your bread. They will devour your sons and your daughters. They will consume your flocks and your herds. They will consume your vineyards and your figs. And with the sword, they will crush your fortified cities, in which you have placed your trust.
18 Contuttociò io non farò fine di voi in que' giorni, dice il Signore.	18 Yet truly, in those days, says the Lord, I will not bring the consummation over you.
19 Che se voi direte: Per qual motivo ha egli fatto a noi tutto questo il Signore Dio nostro? tu dirai loro: Siccome voi avete abbandonato me, ed avete servito a dei stranieri nella vostra terra, cosi a' stranieri servirete in una terra non vostra.	19 And if they say, ‘Why has the Lord our God done all these things to us?’ You shall say to them: ‘Just as you have abandoned me and have served a strange god in your own land, so will you serve strangers in a land not your own.’
20 Annunziate questo alla casa di Giacobbe, e fatelo sapere in Giuda, dicendo:	20 Announce this to the house of Jacob, and make it known in Judah, saying:
21 Ascolta, popolo insensato, e senza cuore, il quale avendo occhi non vedi, e avendo orecchie non odi.	21 Listen, O foolish people who have no heart! You have eyes, but you do not see, and ears, but you do not hear.
22 Voi adunque non mi temerete, dice il Signore, e dinanzi a me non vi pentirete? Io sono, che posi per confine al mare l'arena con ordine sempiterno, ch'ei non trasgredirà; e si agiteranno le sue onde, e non oltrepasseranno, e gonfieranno, ma non passeranno quel segno:	22 So then, will you not fear me, says the Lord. And will you not have sorrow before my face? I have placed the shore as a limit for the sea, as an everlasting precept that it will not transgress. And its waves will crash, but they will not prevail; and its waves will swell, but they will not go across.
23 Ma questo popolo si è formato un cuore incredulo, e ribelle: si son ritirati, e se ne son'iti.	23 But the heart of this people has become incredulous and provocative; they have turned away and departed.
24 E non hanno detto in cuor loro: Temiamo il Signore Dio nostro, che dà a noi la prima pioggia, e la serotina; ed a noi conserva la pienezza dell'annuale ricolta.	24 And they have not said in their heart: ‘Let us dread the Lord our God, who gives us the timely and the late rains, in their proper time, who guards the full measure of the yearly harvest for us.’
25 Le vostre iniquità hanno fatto sparir queste cose: e i peccati vostri vi hanno privati del bene;	25 Your iniquities have turned these things away, and your sins have held back good things from you.
26 Perocché si son trovati nel popol mio degli empj, i quali (come gli uccellatori) pongono lacci, e tendono reti per far caccia di uomini.	26 For the impious are found among my people; they lie in ambush like fowlers setting snares, for they set traps to catch men.
27 Come una gabbia è piena di uccelli, cosi la loro casa è piena di frodi: e per questo si son fatti grandi, e sono arricchiti.	27 Just as a snare is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit. As a result, they have become exalted and enriched.
28 Si sono ingrassati, e impinguati: ed hanno violati pessimamente i miei comandi. Non hanno renduta giustizia alla vedova, non hanno preso a petto la causa del pupillo, e non hanno fatta ragione al povero.	28 They have grown stout and fat. And they have transgressed my words most wickedly. They have not judged the case of the widow; they have not given guidance to the case of the orphan; and they have not judged a judgment for the poor.
29 Forsechè io non punirò tali cose, dice il Signore? O di tal gente non farà vendetta l'anima mia?	29 Shall I not visit against these things, says the Lord? Or shall my soul not take vengeance on a nation of this kind?
30 Cose da sbalordire, cose prodigiose sono avvenute sopra la terra.	30 Astonishing and wondrous things have been done upon the earth.
31 I profeti profetizzavano menzogne, e i sacerdoti applaudivano battendo le mani: e il mio popolo amò tali cose: che sarà adunque di lui nella sua fine?	31 The prophets have prophesied lies, and the priests have applauded with their hands, and my people have loved these things. So then, what shall be done at the very end?”
