1 Then Samson went down to Thamnatlia, and seeing there a woman of the daughters of the Philistines,	1 Sansone scese a Tamnata ed avendovi veduta una donna delle figlie dei Filistei,
2 He came up, and told his father and his mother, saying: I saw a woman in Thamnatha of the daughters of the Philistines: I beseech you, take her for me to wife.	2 tornato, ne parlò a suo padre e a sua madre col dire: « Ho veduta a Tamnata una donna delle figlie dei Filistei: vi pregherei a prendermela per moglie ».
3 And his father and mother said to him: Is there no woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou wilt take a wife of the Philistines, who are uncircumcised? And Samson said to his father: Take this woman for me, for she hath pleased my eyes.	3 E suo padre e sua madre a dirgli: « Non vi son forse donne tra le figlie dei tuoi fratelli e in tutto il nostro popolo, che tu debba andare a prender per moglie una figlia dei Filistei che sono incirconcisi? » Ma Sansone disse a suo padre: « Prendimi questa, perchè mi piace ».
4 Now his parents knew not that the thing was done by the Lord, and that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.	4 I suoi genitori non sapevano che la cosa era fatta dal Signore, e che egli cercava un'occasione contro i Filistei, i quali in quel tempo spadroneggiavano sopra Israele.
5 Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Thamnatha. And when they were come to the vineyards of the town, behold a young lion met him raging and roaring.	5 Or Sansone con suo padre e sua madre scese a Tamnata; e giunto che fu alla vigna della città, apparve un giovane leone feroce e ruggente, che gli andò contro.
6 And the spirit of the Lord came upon Samson, and he tore the lion as he would have torn a kid in pieces, having nothing at all in his hand: and he would not tell this to his father and mother.	6 Ma Sansone, investito dallo Spirito del Signore, sbranò il leone, e, senza aver niente in mano, lo fece a pezzi, come avrebbe fatto di un capretto.
7 And he went down and spoke to the woman that had pleased his eyes.	7 Poi, senza raccontar l'accaduto al padre e alla madre, scese a parlare alla donna che gli era piaciuta.
8 And after some days returning to take her, he went aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold there was a swarm of bees in the mouth of the lion and a honeycomb.	8 Dì lì a qualche giorno, ritornando per sposarla, uscì di strada, per vedere il cadavere del leone, ed ecco, nella bocca del leone v'era uno sciame di api e un favo di miele.
9 And when be had taken it in his hands, he went on eating: and coming to his father and mother, he gave them of it, and they ate: but he would not tell them, that he had taken the honey from the body of the lion.	9 Preso quel miele, si mise a mangiarlo per istrada, e raggiunti il padre e la madre, ne fece loro parte, ed essi pure ne mangiarono; ma Sansone non volle dir loro che aveva preso il miele dal cadavere del leone.
10 So his father went down to the woman, and made a feast for his son Samson: for so the young men used to do.	10 Il suo padre adunque discese dalla donna, e fece un banchetto pel suo figlio, perchè così solevano fare i giovani,
11 And when the citizens of that place saw him, they brought him thirty companions to be with him.	11 I cittadini di quel luogo, avendolo veduto, gli diedero trenta compagni, perchè stessero con lui.
12 And Samson said to them: I will propose to you a riddle, which if you declare unto me within the seven days of the feast, I will give you thirty shirts, and as many coats:	12 E Sansone disse loro: « Io vi proporrò un indovinello; e se voi me lo spiegherete entro i sette giorni del banchetto, io vi darò trenta vesti e altrettante tonache;
13 But if you shall not be able to declare it, you shall give me thirty shirts and the same number of coats. They answered him: Put forth the riddle that we may hear it.	13 ma se non vi riuscirà spiegarlo, le darete a me trenta tonache e altrettante vesti ». Ed essi risposero: « Proponi l'indovinello, faccelo sentire ».
14 And he said to them: Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days expound the riddle.	14 E Sansone disse loro: « Da colui che mangia è uscito il cibo: dal forte è uscita la dolcezza ». Non avendo potuto spiegare in tre giorni l'indovinello,
15 And when the seventh day came, they said to the wife of Samson: Soothe thy husband, and persuade him to tell thee what the riddle meaneth. But if thou wilt not do it, we will burn thee, and thy father's house. Have you called us to the wedding on purpose to strip us?	15 giunto il settimo giorno, dissero alla moglie di Sansone: « Accarezza il tuo sposo in modo da indurlo a darti la spiegazione dell'indovinello: se ricusi di farlo, daremo fuoco a te e alla casa di tuo padre: ci avete forse invitati a nozze per spogliarci? »
16 So she wept before Samson and complained, saying: Thou hatest me, and dost not love me: therefore thou wilt not expound to me the riddle which thou hast proposed to the sons of my people. But he answered: I would not tell it to my father and mother, and how can I tell it to thee?	16 Ed essa versando lacrime davanti a Sansone, e lamentandosi diceva: « Tu mi odii e non mi vuoi bene: ecco perchè non vuoi spiegarmi l'indovinello che hai proposto ai figli del mio popolo! » Ma egli rispose: « Non l'ho voluto dire a mio padre e a mia madre; potrò dirlo a te? »
17 So she wept before him the seven days of the feast: and at length on the seventh day as she was troublesome to him, he expounded it. And she immediately told her countrymen.	17 Siccome durante i sette giorni del convito essa non fece che piagnucolare davanti a lui, finalmente nel settimo, tediato, glielo spiegò; ma essa lo fece saper subito ai suoi concittadini,
18 And they on the seventh day before the sun went down said to him: What is sweeter than honey? and what is stronger than a lion? And he said to them: If you had not ploughed with my heifer, you had not found out my riddle.	18 i quali, al settimo giorno, prima del tramonto del sole, dissero a Sansone: « Che cosa è più dolce del miele? Che cosa è più forte del leone? » Ed egli disse loro: « Se non aveste arato colla mia giovenca, non avreste spiegato il mio indovinello ».
19 And the spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he went down to Ascalon, and slew there thirty men, whose garments he took away and gave to them that had declared the riddle. And being exceeding angry he went up to his father's house:	19 Avendolo investito lo Spirito del Signore, egli discese ad Ascalone e vi uccise trenta uomini, e, tolte loro le vesti, le diede a quelli che avevano sciolto l'indovinello, e pieno di grande ira tornò alla casa di suo padre,
20 But his wife took one of his friends and bridal companions for her husband.	20 mentre la sua moglie prendeva per marito uno degli amici di lui, uno dei compagni di nozze.
