1 Poi Ahitofel disse ad Absalom: Deh! lascia che io scelga dodicimila uomini; ed io mi leverò, e perseguirò Davide questa notte;	1 And Achitophel said to Absalom: I will choose me twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night.
2 e lo sopraggiungerò, mentre egli è stanco, ed ha le mani fiacche; ed io gli darò lo spavento, e tutta la gente ch’è con lui se ne fuggirà; e io percoterò il re solo;	2 And coming upon him (for he is now weary, and weak handed) I will defeat him: and when all the people is put to flight that is with him, I will kill the king who will be left alone.
3 e ridurrò tutto il popolo a te; l’uomo che tu cerchi vale quanto il rivoltar di tutti; tutto il rimanente del popolo non farà più guerra.	3 And I will bring back all the people, as if they were but one man: for thou seekest but one man: and all the people shall be in peace.
4 E questo parere piacque ad Absalom, ed a tutti gli Anziani d’Israele.	4 And his saying pleased Absalom, and all the ancients of Israel.
5 Ma pur Absalom disse: Deh! chiama ancora Husai Archita, ed intendiamo ciò ch’egli ancora avrà in bocca.	5 But Absalom said: Call Chusai the Arachite, and let us hear what he also saith.
6 Husai adunque venne ad Absalom; ed Absalom gli disse: Ahitofel ha parlato in questa sentenza; faremo noi ciò ch’egli ha detto, o no? parla tu.	6 And when Chusai was come to Absalom, Absalom said to him: Achitophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do it or not? what counsel dost thou give?
7 Ed Husai disse ad Absalom: Il consiglio che Ahitofel ha dato questa volta non è buono.	7 And Chusai said to Absalom: The counsel that Achitophel hath given this time is not good.
8 Poi disse: Tu conosci tuo padre, e gli uomini ch’egli ha seco, che sono uomini di valore, e che hanno gli animi inaspriti come un’orsa che abbia perduti i suoi orsacchi in su la campagna; oltre a ciò, tuo padre è uomo di guerra, e non istarà la notte col popolo.	8 And again Chusai said: Thou knowest thy father, and the men that are with him, that they are very valiant, and bitter in their mind, as a bear raging in the wood when her whelps are taken away: and thy father is a warrior, and will not lodge with the people.
9 Ecco, egli è ora nascosto in una di quelle grotte, o in uno di que’ luoghi; ed avverrà che, se alcuni di coloro caggiono al primo incontro, chiunque l’udirà dirà: La gente che seguitava Absalom è stata sconfitta.	9 Perhaps he now lieth hid in pits, or in some other place where he list: and when any one shall fall at the first, every one that heareth it shall say: There is a slaughter among the people that followed Absalom.
10 Laonde eziandio i più valorosi, che hanno il cuore simile ad un cuor di leone, del tutto si avviliranno; perciocchè tutto Israele sa che tuo padre è uomo prode, e che quelli che son con lui son valorosi.	10 And the most valiant man whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall melt for fear: for all the people of Israel know thy father to be a valiant man, and that all who are with him are valiant.
11 Ma io consiglio che del tutto si aduni appresso di te tutto Israele, da Dan fino in Beerseba, in gran numero, come la rena ch’è in sul lido del mare; e che tu vada in persona alla battaglia.	11 But this seemeth to me to be good counsel: Let all Israel be gathered to thee, from Dan to Bersabee, as the sand of the sea which cannot be numbered: and thou shalt be in the midst of them.
12 E allora noi andremo contro a lui in qualunque luogo egli si troverà, e ci accamperemo intorno a lui, a guisa che cade la rugiada in su la terra; e non pur uno di tutti gli uomini che son con lui gli resterà.	12 And we shall come upon him in what place soever he shall be found: and we shall cover him, as the dew falleth upon the ground, and we shall not leave of the men that are with him, not so much as one.
13 E se pure egli si riduce in alcuna città, tutto Israele vi porterà delle funi, e noi la strascineremo fino al torrente, finchè non vi si trovi pure una petruzza.	13 And if he shall enter into any city, all Israel shall cast ropes round about that city, and we will draw it into the river, so that there shall not be found so much as one small stone thereof.
14 Ed Absalom, e tutti i principali d’Israele dissero: Il consiglio di Husai Archita è migliore che il consiglio di Ahitofel. Ora il Signore aveva così ordinato, per rompere il consiglio di Ahitofel, ch’era migliore; acciocchè il Signore facesse venire il male sopra Absalom	14 And Absalom, and all the men of Israel said: The counsel of Chusai the Arachite is better than the counsel of Achitophel: and by the will of the Lord the profitable counsel of Achitophel was defeated, that the Lord might bring evil upon Absalom.
15 Allora Husai disse a Sadoc, e ad Ebiatar, sacerdoti: Ahitofel ha dato tale e tal consiglio ad Absalom, e agli Anziani d’Israele; ed io l’ho dato tale e tale.	15 And Chusai said to Sadoc and Abiathar the priests: Thus and thus did Achitophel counsel Absalom, and the ancients of Israel: and thus and thus did I counsel them.
16 Ora dunque, mandate prestamente a farlo intendere a Davide, e a dirgli: Non istar questa notte nelle campagne del deserto; ed anche del tutto passa il Giordano; che talora il re non sia sopraffatto, con tutta la gente ch’è con lui.	16 Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying: Tarry not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but without delay pass over: lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that is with him.
17 Or Gionatan ed Ahimaas se ne stavano presso alla fonte di Roghel; e, perciocchè non potevano mostrarsi, nè entrar nella città, una servente andò, e rapportò loro la cosa; ed essi andarono, e la fecero assapere al re Davide.	17 And Jonathan and Achimaas stayed by the fountain Rogel: and there went a maid and told them: and they went forward, to carry the message to king David, for they might not be seen, nor enter into the city.
18 Ed un garzone li vide, e lo rapportò ad Absalom. Ma amendue camminarono prestamente, e vennero in Bahurim, in casa d’un uomo che avea un pozzo nel suo cortile, e vi si calarono dentro.	18 But a certain boy saw them, and told Absalom: but they making haste went into the house of a certain man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court, and they went down into it.
19 E la donna di casa prese una coverta, e la distese sopra la bocca del pozzo, e vi sparse su del grano infranto; e niuno seppe il fatto.	19 And a woman took, and spread a covering over the mouth of the well, as it were to dry sodden barley: and so the thing was not known.
20 Ed i servitori di Absalom vennero a quella donna in casa, e le dissero: Dove è Ahimaas e Gionatan? Ed ella disse loro: Hanno passato il guado dell’acqua. Ed essi li cercarono; ma, non trovandoli, se ne ritornarono in Gerusalemme.	20 And when Absalom's servants were come into the house, they said to the woman: Where is Achimaas and Jonathan? and the woman answered them: They passed on in haste, after they had tasted a little water. But they that sought them, when they found them not, returned into Jerusalem.
21 E, dopo che se ne furono andati, quelli salirono fuor del pozzo, e andarono, e rapportarono la cosa a Davide; e gli dissero: Levatevi, e passate prestamente l’acqua; perciocchè Ahitofel ha dato tal consiglio contro a voi	21 And when they were gone, they came up out of the well, and going on told king David, and said: Arise, and pass quickly over the river: for this manner of counsel has Achitophel given against you.
22 Davide adunque si levò, con tutta la gente ch’era con lui, e passò il Giordano; avanti lo schiarir del dì, tutti, fino ad uno, aveano passato il Giordano.	22 So David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over the Jordan, until it grew light, and not one of them was left that was not gone over the river.
23 Or Ahitofel, veduto che non si era fatto ciò ch’egli avea consigliato, sellò il suo asino, e si levò, e andò a casa sua nella sua città, e diede ordine alla sua casa; e poi si strangolò, e morì, e fu seppellito nella sepoltura di suo padre.	23 But Achitophel seeing that his counsel was not followed, saddled his ass, and arose and went home to his house and to his city, and putting his house in order, hanged himself, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.
24 E DAVIDE venne in Mahanaim. Poi Absalom passò il Giordano, insieme con tutta la gente d’Israele.	24 But David came to the camp, and Absalom passed over the Jordan, be and all the men of Israel with him.
25 Ed Absalom costituì Amasa sopra l’esercito, in luogo di Ioab. Or Amasa era figliuolo d’un uomo Israelita, chiamato Itra, il quale era entrato da Abigail, figliuola di Nahas, sorella di Seruia, madre di Ioab.	25 Now Absalom appointed Amasa in Joab's stead over the army: and Amasa was the son of a man who was called Jethra of Jezrael, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Naas, the sister of Sarvia who was the mother of Joab.
26 Ed Israele, con Absalom, si accampò nel paese di Galaad.	26 And Israel camped with Absalom in the land of Galaad.
27 Ora, quando Davide fu giunto in Mahanaim, Sobi, figliuolo di Nahas, da Rabba de’ figliuoli di Ammon, e Machir, figliuolo di Ammiel, da Lodebar, e Barzillai Galaadita, da Roghelim,	27 And when David was come to the camp, Sobi the son of Naas of Rabbath of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammihel of Lodabar, and Berzellai the Galaadite of Rogelim,
28 portarono a Davide, ed alla gente ch’era con lui, letti, e bacini, e vasellame di terra; e da mangiare, frumento, ed orzo, e farina, e grano arrostito, e fave, e lenti, ed anche delle arrostite;	28 Brought him beds, and tapestry, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and meal, and parched corn, and beans, and lentils, and fried pulse,
29 e miele, e butirro, e pecore, e caci di vacca; perciocchè dissero: Questa gente ha patito fame, e stanchezza, e sete, nel deserto	29 And honey, and butter, and sheep, and fat calves, and they gave to David and the people that were with him, to eat: for they suspected that the people were faint with hunger and thirst in the wilderness.
