BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Por tanto, es preciso que prestemos mayor atención a lo que hemos oído, para que no nos extraviemos.	1 We ought, then, to turn our minds more attentively than before to what we have been taught, so that wedo not drift away.
2 Pues si la palabra promulgada por medio de los ángeles obtuvo tal firmeza que toda transgresión y desobediencia recibió justa retribución,	2 If a message that was spoken through angels proved to be so reliable that every infringement anddisobedience brought its own proper punishment,
3 ¿cómo saldremos absueltos nosotros si descuidamos tan gran salvación? La cual comenzó a ser anunciada por el Señor, y nos fue luego confirmada por quienes la oyeron,	3 then we shal certainly not go unpunished if we neglect such a great salvation. It was first announced bythe Lord himself, and is guaranteed to us by those who heard him;
4 testificando también Dios con señales y prodigios, con toda suerte de milagros y dones del Espíritu Santo repartidos según su voluntad.	4 God himself confirmed their witness with signs and marvels and miracles of al kinds, and bydistributing the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the various ways he wil s.
5 En efecto, Dios no sometió a los ángeles el mundo venidero del cual estamos hablando.	5 It was not under angels that he put the world to come, about which we are speaking.
6 Pues atestiguó alguien en algún lugar: ¿Qué es el hombre, que te acuerdas de él? ¿O el hijo del hombre, que de él te preocupas?	6 Someone witnesses to this somewhere with the words: What are human beings that you spare athought for them, a child of Adam that you care for him?
7 Le hiciste por un poco inferior a los ángeles; de gloria y honor le coronaste.	7 For a short while you have made him less than the angels; you have crowned him with glory andhonour,
8 Todo lo sometiste debajo de sus pies. Al someterle todo, nada dejó que no le estuviera sometido. Mas al presente, no vemos todavía que le esté sometido todo.	8 put al things under his feet. For in putting al things under him he made no exceptions. At present, it istrue, we are not able to see that all things are under him,
9 Y a aquel que fue hecho inferior a los ángeles por un poco, a Jesús, le vemos coronado de gloria y honor por haber padecido la muerte, pues por la gracia de Dios gustó la muerte para bien de todos.	9 but we do see Jesus, who was for a short while made less than the angels, now crowned with glory andhonour because he submitted to death; so that by God's grace his experience of death should benefit allhumanity.
10 Convenía, en verdad, que Aquel por quien es todo y para quien es todo, llevara muchos hijos a la gloria, perfeccionando mediante el sufrimiento al que iba a guiarlos a la salvación.	10 It was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should, in bringing many sons toglory, make perfect through suffering the leader of their salvation.
11 Pues tanto el santificador como los santificados tienen todos el mismo origen. Por eso no se avergüenza de llamarles hermanos	11 For consecrator and consecrated are al of the same stock; that is why he is not ashamed to call thembrothers
12 cando dice: Anunciaré tu nombre a mis hermanos; en medio de la asamblea te cantaré himnos. Y también:	12 in the text: I shal proclaim your name to my brothers, praise you in full assembly; or in the text:
13 Pondré en él mi confianza. Y nuevamente: Henos aquí, a mí y a los hijos que Dios me dio.	13 I shal put my hope in him; fol owed by Look, I and the children whom God has given me.
14 Por tanto, así como los hijos participan de la sangre y de la carne, así también participó él de las mismas, para aniquilar mediante la muerte al señor de la muerte, es decir, al Diablo,	14 Since al the children share the same human nature, he too shared equal y in it, so that by his deathhe could set aside him who held the power of death, namely the devil,
15 y libertar a cuantos, por temor a la muerte, estaban de por vida sometidos a esclavitud.	15 and set free al those who had been held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death.
16 Porque, ciertamente, no se ocupa de los ángeles, sino de la descendencia de Abraham.	16 For it was not the angels that he took to himself; he took to himself the line of Abraham.
17 Por eso tuvo que asemejarse en todo a sus hermanos, para ser misericordioso y Sumo Sacerdote fiel en lo que toca a Dios, en orden a expiar los pecados del pueblo.	17 It was essential that he should in this way be made completely like his brothers so that he couldbecome a compassionate and trustworthy high priest for their relationship to God, able to expiate the sins of thepeople.
18 Pues, habiendo sido probado en el sufrimiento, puede ayudar a los que se ven probados.	18 For the suffering he himself passed through while being put to the test enables him to help otherswhen they are being put to the test.
