Jeremías 36

1 Aconteció que en el año cuarto de Yoyaquim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, fue dirigida esta palabra a Jeremías de parte de Yahveh:	1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of Joakim the son of Josias king of Juda, that this word came to Jeremias by the Lord, saying:
2 Tómate un rollo de escribir, y apuntas en él todas las palabras que te he hablado tocante a Israel, a Judá y a todas las naciones, desde la fecha en que te vengo hablando - desde los tiempos de Josías hasta hoy -.	2 Take thee a roll of a book, and thou shalt write in it all the words that I have spoken to thee against Israel and Juda, and against all the nations from the day that I spoke to thee, from the days of Josias even to this day.
3 A ver si la casa de Judá se entera de todo el mal que he pensado hacerle, de modo que se convierta cada uno de su mal camino, y entonces yo perdonaría su culpa y su pecado.	3 If so be, when the house of Juda shall hear all the evils that I purpose to do unto them, that they may return every man from his wicked way: and I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin.
4 Llamó, pues, Jeremías a Baruc, hijo de Neriyías, y apuntó Baruc al dictado de Jeremías todas las palabras que Yahveh le había hablado, en un rollo de escribir.	4 So Jeremias called Baruch the son of Nerias: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremias all the words of the Lord, which he spoke to him, upon the roll of a book.
5 Dio Jeremías a Baruc estas instrucciones: «Yo estoy detenido; no puedo ir a la Casa de Yahveh.	5 And Jeremias commanded Baruch, saying: I am shut up, and cannot go into the house of the Lord.
6 Así que, vete tú, y lees en voz alta el rollo en que has apuntado al dictado mío las palabras de Yahveh, a oídos del público de la Casa de Yahveh el día del ayuno, y las lees también a oídos de todos los de Judá que vienen de sus ciudades;	6 Go thou in therefore, and read out of the volume, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the Lord, in the hearing of all the people in the house of the Lord on the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the hearing of all Juda that come out of their cities:
7 a ver si presentan sus súplicas a Yahveh, y se vuelven cada uno de su mal camino; porque grande es la ira y el furor que ha expresado Yahveh contra este pueblo».	7 If so be they may present their supplication before the Lord, and may return every one from his wicked way: for great is the wrath and indignation which the Lord hath pronounced against this people.
8 Hizo Baruc, hijo de Neriyías, conforme a todo cuanto le había mandado el profeta Jeremías, y leyó en el libro las palabras de Yahveh en la Casa de Yahveh.	8 And Baruch the son of Nerias did according to all that Jeremias the prophet had commanded him, reading out of the volume the words of the Lord in the house of the Lord.
9 Precisamente en el año quinto de Yoyaquim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, el mes noveno, se proclamaba ayuno general delante de Yahveh, tanto para el pueblo de Jerusalén como para toda la gente venida de las ciudades de Judá a Jerusalén.	9 And it came to pass in the fifth year of Joakim the son of Josias king of Juda, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the Lord to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that were come together out of the cities of Juda to Jerusalem.
10 Baruc, pues, leyó en el libro las palabras de Jeremías en la Casa de Yahveh, en la cámara de Guemarías, hijo de Safán el escriba, en el patio alto, a la entrada de la Puerta Nueva de la Casa de Yahveh, a oídos de todo el pueblo.	10 And Baruch read out of the volume the words of Jeremias in the house of the Lord, in the treasury of Gamarias the son of Saphan the scribe, in the upper court, in the entry of the new gate of the house of the Lord, in the hearing of all the people.
11 Oye Miqueas, hijo de Guemarías, hijo de Safán, todas las palabras de Yahveh según el libro,	11 And when Micheas the son of Gamarias the son of Saphan had heard out of the book all the words of the Lord,
12 baja a la casa del rey, al cuarto del escriba, y se encuentra con que allí estaban todos los jefes sentados: el escribano Elisamá, Delaías, hijo de Semaías, Elnatán, hijo de Akbor, Guemarías, hijo de Safán, Sedecías, hijo de Jananías, y todos los demás jefes.	12 He went down into the king's house to the secretary's chamber: and behold all the princes sat there, Elisama the scribe, and Dalaias the son of Semeias, and Elnathan the son of Achobor, and Gamarias the son of Saphan, and Sedecias the son of Hananias, and all the princes.
13 Y Miqueas declaró todas las palabras que había oído leer a Baruc en el libro a oídos del pueblo.	13 And Micheas told them all the words that he had heard when Baruch read out of the volume in the hearing of the people.
14 Entonces todos los jefes enviaron a Yehudí, hijo de Netanías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Kusí a decir a Baruc: «Toma en tus propias manos el rollo en el que has leído en voz alta al pueblo y vente». Baruc, hijo de Neriyías, tomó el rollo en sus manos y se dirigió adonde ellos.	14 Therefore all the princes sent Judi the son of Nathanias, the son of Selemias, the son of Chusi, to Baruch, saying: Take in thy hand the volume in which thou hast read in the hearing of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Nerias took the volume in his hand, and came to them.
15 Dícenle: «Ea, siéntate y ten a bien leérnoslo a nosotros». Y Baruc se lo leyó.	15 And they said to him: Sit down and read these things in our hearing. And Baruch read in their hearing.
16 Como oyeron todas aquellas palabras, se asustaron y dijeron cada cual a su vecino: «Anunciemos sin falta al rey todas estas palabras».	16 And when they had heard all the words, they looked upon one another with astonishment, and they said to Baruch: We must tell the king all these words.
17 Y a Baruc le pidieron: «Explícanos cómo has escrito todas estas palabras».	17 And they asked him, saying: Tell us how didst thou write all these words from his mouth.
18 Díceles Baruc: «Al dictado. El me recitaba todas estas palabras y yo las iba escribiendo en el libro con tinta».	18 And Baruch said to them: With his mouth he pronounced all these words as if he were reading to me: and I wrote in a volume with ink.
19 Dicen los jefes a Baruc: «Vete, escondeos tú y Jeremías, y que nadie sepa dónde estáis».	19 And the princes said to Baruch: Go, and hide thee, both thou and Jeremias, and let no man know where you are.
20 Y entraron adonde el rey, a la corte (el rollo lo consignaron en la cámara de Elisamá el escriba) y anunciaron a oídos del rey todas aquellas palabras.	20 And they went in to the king into the court: but they laid up the volume in the chamber of Elisama the scribe: and they told all the words in the hearing of the king.
21 Entonces envió el rey a Yehudí a apoderarse del rollo, y éste lo tomó del cuarto de Elisamá el escriba. Y Yehudí lo leyó en voz alta al rey y a todos los jefes que estaban en pie en torno al rey.	21 And the king sent Judi that he should take the volume: who bringing it out of the chamber of Elisama the scribe, read it in the hearing of the king, and of all the princes that stood about the king.
22 El rey estaba sentado en la casa de invierno, - era en el mes noveno -, con un brasero delante encendido.	22 Now the king sat in the winter house, In the ninth month: and there was a hearth before him full of burning coals.
23 Y así que había leído Yehudí tres hojas o cuatro, él las rasgaba con el cortaplumas del escriba y las echaba al fuego del brasero, hasta terminar con todo el rollo en el fuego del brasero.	23 And when Judi had read three or four pages, he cut it with the penknife, and he cast it into the Are, that was upon the hearth, till all the volume was consumed with the fire that was on the hearth.
24 Ni se asustaron ni se rasgaron los vestidos el rey ni ninguno de sus siervos que oían todas estas cosas,	24 And the king and all his servants that heard all these words were not afraid, nor did they rend their garments.
25 y por más que Elnatán, Delaías y Guemarías suplicaron el rey que no quemara el rollo, no les hizo caso.	25 But yet Elnathan, and Dalaias, and Gamarias spoke to the king, not to burn. the book: and he heard them not.
26 Luego el rey ordenó a Yerajmeel, hijo del rey, a Seraías, hijo de Azriel, y a Selemías, hijo de Abdel, apoderarse del escriba Baruc y del profeta Jeremías, pero Yahveh los ocultó.	26 And the king commanded Jeremiel the son of Amelech, and Saraias the son of Ezriel, and Selemias the son of Abdeel, to take up Baruch the scribe, and Jeremias the prophet: but the Lord hid them.
27 Entonces fue dirigida la palabra de Yahveh a Jeremías - tras de haber quemado el rey el rollo y las cosas que había escrito Baruc al dictado de Jeremías - como sigue:	27 And the word of the Lord came to Jeremias the prophet, after that the king had burnt the volume, and the words that Baruch had written from the mouth of Jeremias, saying:
28 «Vuelve a tomar otro rollo y escribe en él todas las cosas que antes había en el primer rollo que quemó Yoyaquim, rey de Judá.	28 Take thee again another volume: and write in it all the former words that were in the first volume which Joakim the king of Juda hath burnt.
29 Y a Yoyaquim, rey de Judá, le dices: Así dice Yahveh: Tú has quemado aquel rollo, diciendo: “¿Por qué has escrito en él: Vendrá sin falta el rey de Babilonia y destruirá esta tierra y se llevará cautivos de ella a hombres y bestias?”	29 And thou shalt say to Joakim the king of Juda: Thus saith the Lord: Thou hast burnt that volume, saying: Why hast thou written therein, and said: The king of Babylon shall come speedily, and shall lay waste this land: and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?
30 Por tanto, así dice Yahveh a propósito de Yoyaquim, rey de Judá: No tendrá quien le suceda en el trono de David y su propio cadáver yacerá tirado, expuesto al calor del día y al frío de la noche.	30 Therefore thus saith the Lord against Joakim the king of Juda: He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat by day, and to the frost by night.
31 Yo pasaré revista a sus culpas y las de su linaje y sus siervos, y traeré sobre ellos y sobre todos los habitantes de Jerusalén y los hombres de Judá todo el mal que les dije, sin que hicieran caso».	31 And I will punish him, and his seed and his servants, for their iniquities, and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Juda all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they have not heard.
32 Entonces Jeremías tomó otro rollo, que dio al escriba Baruc, hijo de Neriyías, y éste escribió al dictado de Jeremías todas las palabras del libro que había quemado Yoyaquim, rey de Judá, e incluso se añadió a aquéllas otras muchas por el estilo.	32 And Jeremias took another volume, and gave it to Baruch the son of Nerias the scribe: who wrote in it from the mouth of Jeremias all the words of the book which Joakim the king of Juda had burnt with fire: and there were added besides many more words than had been before.
