Jeremías 19

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Entonces Yahveh dijo a Jeremías: Ve y compras un jarro de cerámica; tomas contigo a algunos ancianos del pueblo y algunos sacerdotes,	1 Then Yahweh said to Jeremiah, 'Go and buy a potter's earthenware jug. Take some of the people'selders and some of the senior priests with you.
2 sales al valle de Ben Hinnom, a la entrada de la puerta de las Tejoletas, y pregonas allí las palabras que voy a decirte.	2 Go out towards the Valley of Ben-Hinnom, just outside the Gate of the Potsherds. There proclaim thewords I shall say to you.
3 Dirás: Oíd la palabra de Yahveh, reyes de Judá y habitantes de Jerusalén. Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel: «He aquí que yo traigo sobre este lugar una desgracia, que a todo el que la oyere le zumbarán los oídos.	3 You must say, "Kings of Judah, inhabitants of Jerusalem! Listen to the word of Yahweh! YahwehSabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: I am about to bring such a disaster on this place that the ears of every onewho hears of it wil ring.
4 Porque me han dejado, han hecho extraño este lugar y han incensado en él a otros dioses que ni ellos ni sus padres conocían. Los reyes de Judá han llenado este lugar de sangre de inocentes,	4 For they have abandoned me and have made this place unrecognisable, and offered incense here toother gods which neither they nor their ancestors nor the kings of Judah ever knew before. They have fil ed thisplace with the blood of the innocent;
5 y han construido los altos de Baal para quemar a sus hijos en el fuego, en holocausto a Baal, - lo que no les mandé ni les dije ni me pasó por las mientes -.	5 for they have built high places for Baal to burn their sons as burnt offerings to Baal, a thing I neverordered, never mentioned, that had never entered my thoughts.
6 Por tanto, he aquí que vienen días - oráculo de Yahveh - en que no se hablará más de Tofet ni del valle de Ben Hinnom, sino del “Valle de la Matanza”.	6 So now the days are coming, Yahweh declares, when people will no longer cal this place Topheth, orVal ey of Ben-Hinnom, but Val ey of Slaughter.
7 Vaciaré la prudencia de Judá y Jerusalén a causa de este lugar: les haré caer a espada ante sus enemigos por mano de los que busquen su muerte; daré sus cadáveres por comida a las aves del cielo y a las bestias de la tierra,	7 Because of this place, I shall empty Judah and Jerusalem of sound advice; I shall make them fall bythe sword before their enemies, by the hand of those determined to kil them; I shal give their corpses as food tothe birds of the sky and the animals of earth.
8 y convertiré esta ciudad en desolación y en rechifla: todo el que pase a su vera se quedará atónito y silbará en vista de sus heridas.	8 And I shal make this city an object of horror and derision; every passer-by will be appal ed at it andwhistle at the sight of al the wounds it has sustained.
9 Les haré comer la carne de sus hijos y la carne de sus hijas, y comerán cada uno la carne de su prójimo, en el aprieto y la estrechez con que les estrecharán sus enemigos y los que busquen su muerte».	9 I shal make them eat the flesh of their own sons and daughters: they wil eat one another during thesiege, in the shortage to which their enemies, and those determined to kil them, will reduce them."
10 Luego rompes el jarro a la vista de los hombres que vayan contigo	10 'You must break this jug in front of the men who are with you,
11 y les dices: Así dice Yahveh Sebaot: «Asimismo quebrantaré yo a este pueblo y a esta ciudad, como quien rompe un cacharro de alfarería, que ya no tiene arreglo. «Y se harán enterramientos en Tófet, hasta que falte sitio para enterrar.	11 and say to them, "Yahweh Sabaoth says this: I am going to break this people and this city just as onebreaks a potter's pot, so that it can never be mended again. "Topheth wil become a burial ground, for lack ofother burial space.
12 Así haré con este lugar - oráculo de Yahveh - y con sus habitantes, hasta dejar a esta ciudad lo mismo que Tófet,	12 That is how I shal treat this place, Yahweh declares, and its inhabitants, by making this city likeTopheth.
13 y que sean las casas de Jerusalén y las de los reyes de Judá como el lugar de Tófet: una inmundicia; todas las casas en cuyas azoteas incensaron a toda la tropa celeste y libaron libación a otros dioses».	13 The houses of Jerusalem and those of the kings of Judah, al the houses on the roofs of which theyoffered incense to the whole array of heaven and poured libations to other gods, wil be unclean, like this placeTopheth." '
14 Partió Jeremías de Tófet a donde le había enviado Yahveh a profetizar y, parándose en el atrio de la Casa de Yahveh, dijo a todo el pueblo:	14 Jeremiah then came back from Topheth where Yahweh had sent him to prophesy, and stood in thecourt of the Temple of Yahweh and said to al the people,
15 «Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel: He aquí que yo traigo a esta ciudad y a todos sus aledaños toda la calamidad que he pronunciado contra ella, porque ha atiesado su cerviz, desoyendo mis palabras».	15 'Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this, "Yes, on this city, and on all the towns belonging to it, Ishall bring all the disaster which I had decreed for it, since they have stubbornly refused to listen to my words." '
