1 (Or avvenne che) uno uomo che avea nome Anania, con una sua mogliere che aveva nome Safira, vendette uno suo certo campo (per esser discepoli degli apostoli);	1 There was also a man cal ed Ananias. He and his wife, Sapphira, agreed to sel a property;
2 e ritennesi certa parte del prezzo che n' ebbe, sapiendolo e consentendo a ciò la predetta sua moglie; e l'altra parte prese, e posela a' piedi degli apostoli.	2 but with his wife's connivance he kept back part of the price and brought the rest and presented it to theapostles.
3 (Il quale fraudo conoscendo) Pietro (per divina ispirazione,) sì gli disse: o Anania, come hai consentito alla tentazione di Satana, e hai mentito allo Spirito Santo, fraudando del prezzo (che ricevesti) del tuo campo (venduto)?	3 Peter said, 'Ananias, how can Satan have so possessed you that you should lie to the Holy Spirit andkeep back part of the price of the land?
4 Or non era tuo tutto il campo, e il prezzo in tua potestà? (potevilo tenere); perchè adunque, dimostrando di voler lasciare tutto, hai fatto questo inganno? sappi che non hai mentito pur a uomo ma a Dio.	4 While you stil owned the land, wasn't it yours to keep, and after you had sold it wasn't the money yoursto do with as you liked? What put this scheme into your mind? You have been lying not to men, but to God.'
5 La quale parola udendo Anania, cadde morto subito. Onde seguitò grande timore a tutti quelli che questo (vidono e) udirono.	5 When he heard this Ananias fel down dead. And a great fear came upon everyone present.
6 Allora certi giovani (cristiani per comandamento di Pietro) lo presero e sepellirono fuori di quello luogo.	6 The younger men got up, wrapped up the body, carried it out and buried it.
7 E dopo spazio di tre ore venne (Safira) sua mogliere (per parlare a Pietro), non sapiendo di quello che incontrato era, niente.	7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had taken place.
8 La quale vedendola, Pietro disse: dimmi, femina, (non) aveste cotanto prezzo del vostro campo? E rispondendo, sì gli disse: egli è così.	8 Peter chal enged her, 'Tel me, was this the price you sold the land for?' 'Yes,' she said, 'that was theprice.'
9 Allora Pietro disse: che bisognava a voi adunque di tentare il Spirito del Signore? Ecco, li piedi de' gioveni, che hanno sepellito il tuo marito, sono all' uscio; e così sotterreranno te.	9 Peter then said, 'Why did you and your husband agree to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Listen! Atthe door are the footsteps of those who have buried your husband; they wil carry you out, too.'
10 Le quali parole ella udendo, incontanente cadde morta. E i giovani predetti entrando, e trovandola morta, sì la trassero fuori, e sepellironla insieme col suo marito.	10 Instantly she dropped dead at his feet. When the young men came in they found she was dead, andthey carried her out and buried her by the side of her husband.
11 Onde ne seguitò grande timore in tutta la Chiesa, in quelli li quali queste cose (intenderono e) udirono.	11 And a great fear came upon the whole church and on al who heard it.
12 E (in quelli giorni) facevano gli apostoli molti segni e maraviglie nel popolo. Ed erano tutti nel portico di Salomone.	12 The apostles worked many signs and miracles among the people. One in heart, they al used to meetin the Portico of Solomon.
13 E niuno degli altri era ardito d' accostarsi a loro; ma con riverenza ciascuno li lodava.	13 No one else dared to join them, but the people were loud in their praise
14 E (predicando gli apostoli) continuamente cresceva la moltitudine di (uomini) fedeli, e di maschi e di femine.	14 and the numbers of men and women who came to believe in the Lord increased steadily. Many signsand wonders were worked among the people at the hands of the apostles
15 E (per la grande devozione che avevano a Pietro) ponevano gli infermi per le piazze (e per le vie, onde elli doveva passare), acciò che passando elli, almeno l'ombra sua gli obumbrasse (e venisse sopra loro), e fussero liberati di sua infirmità (e così erano).	15 so that the sick were even taken out into the streets and laid on beds and sleeping-mats in the hopethat at least the shadow of Peter might fal across some of them as he went past.
16 E grande moltitudine di quelli delle città vicine a Ierusalem venivano con loro infermi, e con quelli ch' erano vessati da mali spiriti; e tutti erano guariti (e liberati).	16 People even came crowding in from the towns round about Jerusalem, bringing with them their sickand those tormented by unclean spirits, and al of them were cured.
17 Per le quali cose (incitati e provocati e) accesi di pazzo zelo, lo principe de' sacerdoti e quelli che lo seguitavano, ch' è la eresia de' Saducei (piena d' invidia),	17 Then the high priest intervened with all his supporters from the party of the Sadducees. Fil ed withjealousy,
18 posero le mani sopra gli apostoli, (e preserli) e miserli in pubblica custodia (e pregione).	18 they arrested the apostles and had them put in the public gaol.
19 Ma la notte seguente l' angelo di Dio aperse la pregione, e trassegli fuori, e disse loro:	19 But at night the angel of the Lord opened the prison gates and said as he led them out,
20 andate, e state, e predicate nel tempio (arditamente) la parola della vita.	20 'Go and take up position in the Temple, and tel the people all about this new Life.'
21 Onde egli (arditamente) vennero al tempio la mattina per tempo, e predicarono. E venendo (la mattina) i principe de' sacerdoti, e quelli ch' erano con lui, convocarono il concilio e tutti li vecchi delli figliuoli d'Israel; e (la mattina) mandò (suoi messi e officiali) alla pregione, che prendessero gli apostoli e menassongli loro inanzi.	21 They did as they were told; they went into the Temple at dawn and began to preach. When the highpriest arrived, he and his supporters convened the Sanhedrin -- this was the ful Senate of Israel -- and sent tothe gaol for them to be brought.
22 E andando li ministri, e aprendo la pregione, e non trovandoli, tornarono a drieto.	22 But when the officials arrived at the prison they found they were not inside, so they went back and reported,
23 E dissero (al concilio): noi abbiamo trovata la pregione serrata diligentemente, e le guardie inanzi all' uscio; ma aprendo, niuno vi trovammo dentro.	23 'We found the gaol securely locked and the warders on duty at the gates, but when we unlocked thedoor we found no one inside.'
24 Le quali parole egli udendo (maravigliansi molto e) non potevano pensare che fusse fatto degli apostoli (li quali egli avevano rinchiusi in pregione).	24 When the captain of the Temple and the chief priests heard this news they wondered what could behappening.
25 E (stando così, e pensando sopra ciò), sopravenne uno (loro familiare), e annunziò loro che quegli uomini, i quali egli avevano messi in pregione, erano nel tempio, e predicavano.	25 Then a man arrived with fresh news. 'Look!' he said, 'the men you imprisoned are in the Temple. Theyare standing there preaching to the people.'
26 Allora (molto incitati) andò uno delli maestri co' ministri, e menogli (cortesemente) senza violenza, temendo che il popolo (che aveva fede in loro) non gli lapidasseno.	26 The captain went with his men and fetched them -- though not by force, for they were afraid that thepeople might stone them.
27 E sì gli ordinarono nel mezzo del concilio. Allora il principe de' sacerdoti (molto acceso d' ira)	27 When they had brought them in to face the Sanhedrin, the high priest demanded an explanation.
28 disse a loro: or non sapete voi, che noi vi comandammo (molto strettamente), che mai più non parlassi nè predicassi in questo nome Iesù? e poi avete (fatto tutto il contrario, e avete) ripiena la città di Ierusalem di questa vostra dottrina, e volete inducere il sangue di questo uomo (Iesù) sopra di noi.	28 'We gave you a strong warning', he said, 'not to preach in this name, and what have you done? Youhave fil ed Jerusalem with your teaching, and seem determined to fix the guilt for this man's death on us.'
29 Al quale Pietro e gli altri apostoli risposeno: conviensi più tosto obbedire a Dio, che agli uomini.	29 In reply Peter and the apostles said, 'Obedience to God comes before obedience to men;
30 (Onde come detto abbiamo, costì ancora diciamo: che) Dio de' nostri padri suscitò (il suo Figliuolo) Iesù, il quale voi (ingiustamente) uccidesti e crucifiggesti.	30 it was the God of our ancestors who raised up Jesus, whom you executed by hanging on a tree.
31 E hallo esaltato e fatto principe e salvatore colla sua mano diritta, a dare penitenza in remissione delli peccati al popolo d' Israel.	31 By his own right hand God has now raised him up to be leader and Saviour, to give repentance andforgiveness of sins through him to Israel.
32 E noi siamo testimonii di quelle parole (che elli disse, e di quello ch' elli fece); ma principalmente rende testimonianza (della sua virtù) il Spirito Santo, il quale Dio ha mandato (nel suo nome) in tutti quelli che a lui obbediscono.	32 We are witnesses to this, we and the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.'
33 Le quali parole udendo, (li prìncipi e sacerdoti tutti) si rodevano di malinconia, e pensavano come potessero uccidere gli apostoli (senza loro pericolo).	33 This so infuriated them that they wanted to put them to death.
34 Allora si levò ad aringare nel concilio uno (grande) Fariseo, dottore della legge, che aveva nome Gamaliele, uomo molto onorato da tutto il popolo; e fece uscire fuori gli apostoli (e stare in disparte tanto che aringasse),	34 One member of the Sanhedrin, however, a Pharisee called Gamaliel, who was a teacher of the Lawrespected by the whole people, stood up and asked to have the men taken outside for a time.
35 e disse: (signori) uomini tutti d' Israel, attendete (e considerate cautamente), che fare debbiate di questi uomini (che presi avete).	35 Then he addressed the Sanhedrin, 'Men of Israel, be careful how you deal with these people.
36 Sapete che non è molto tempo che si levò uno che avea nome Teoda, e diceva (e mostrava) d'essere uno grande fatto, (e fece una sua setta), e consentirongli ben quattrocento persone, (e promettevali grandi cose, ed esssndo mago e malefico e pessimo, si mostrava perfetto); ma (come sapete, la sua malizia tosto fu compresa, ed) egli fu morto, e tutti i suoi seguaci furono esterminati.	36 Some time ago there arose Theudas. He claimed to be someone important, and col ected about fourhundred fol owers; but when he was kil ed, al his fol owers scattered and that was the end of them.
37 Dopo costui si levò (uno ch' ebbe nome) Iuda Galileo, in quelli tempi che Cesare Augusto faceva numerare l'universo mondo, e trasse molto popolo a sè (dicendo che li giudei non dovevano dar tributo a Cesare); ma (perchè falso era, e falsa dottrina seminava, presto) perì, e tutti i suoi seguaci furono esterminati.	37 And then there was Judas the Galilean, at the time of the census, who attracted crowds of supporters;but he was kil ed too, and al his fol owers dispersed.
38 Or per questo voglio dire (e conchiudere che mi pare) che lasciate andare via questi uomini liberamente; perciò che se il fatto loro è opera di uomo, per sè medesimo verrà questo meno;	38 What I suggest, therefore, is that you leave these men alone and let them go. If this enterprise, thismovement of theirs, is of human origin it wil break up of its own accord;
39 ma se è da Dio, non lo potrete impedire, (lasciateli adunque andare) sì che non paia vogliate contrastare a Dio. E consentendo tutti a questo consiglio,	39 but if it does in fact come from God you wil be unable to destroy them. Take care not to find yourselvesfighting against God.' His advice was accepted;
40 chiamarono dentro gli apostoli, e comandorono loro che non parlassero mai nel nome di Iesù; ma in prima (per confonderli) li fecero battere (e flagellare crudelmente); e lassoronli.	40 and they had the apostles called in, gave orders for them to be flogged, warned them not to speak inthe name of Jesus and released them.
41 Allora gli apostoli così conci si partirono dal concilio, (gloriosi e) godendo molto che Dio gli avea fatti degni di ricevere vergogna per lo nome suo.	41 And so they left the presence of the Sanhedrin, glad to have had the honour of suffering humiliation forthe sake of the name.
42 Onde (non' curandosi di flagelli, nè temendo, per il grande fervore) ogni dì predicavano di Iesù Cristo nel tempio, e intorno per le altre case e luoghi.	42 Every day they went on ceaselessly teaching and proclaiming the good news of Christ Jesus, both inthe temple and in private houses.
