1 Parlò Iddio a Moisè nello diserto di Sinai nel tabernacolo del patto, il primo dì del mese secondo, nell'altro anno ch' erano usciti d'Egitto; e disse (lo Signore):	1 In the year following that of the Israelites' departure from the land of Egypt, on the first day of the second month, the LORD said to Moses in the meeting tent in the desert of Sinai:
2 Togliete una quantità di ogni gente de' figliuoli d'Israel, per ogni casa e congregazione loro, e tutti i nomi d'ogni maschio,	2 "Take a census of the whole community of the Israelites, by clans and ancestral houses, registering each male individually.
3 da XX in su, che sia forte fra i figliuoli d'Israel; e annumeraretegli tutti quanti per le loro turme, tue e Aaron.	3 You and Aaron shall enroll in companies all the men in Israel of twenty years or more who are fit for military service.
4 Saranno tutti i principi delle tribù e delle case, secondo le loro generazioni, con voi.	4 "To assist you there shall be a man from each tribe, the head of his ancestral house.
5 E questi sono i loro nomi: (Della tribù) di Ruben, Elisur figliuolo di Sedeur.	5 These are the names of those who are to assist you: from Reuben: Elizur, son of Shedeur;
6 (Della tribù, cioè della schiatta) di Simeon, Salamiel figliuolo di Surisaddai.	6 from Simeon: Shelumiel, son of Zurishaddai;
7 Di Giuda, Naasson figliuolo di Aminadab.	7 from Judah: Nahshon, son of Amminadab;
8 D’Issacar, Natanael figliuolo di Suar.	8 from Issachar: Nethanel, son of Zuar;
9 Di Zabulon, Eliab figliuolo di Elon.	9 from Zebulun: Eliab, son of Helon;
10 Ma de' figliuoli di Iosef, di Efraim, Elisama figliuolo di Amiud. Di Manasse, Gamaliel figliuolo di Fadassur.	10 from Ephraim: Elishama, son of Ammihud, and from Manasseh: Gamaliel, son of Pedahzur, for the descendants of Joseph;
11 Di Beniamin, Abida figliuolo di Gedeone.	11 from Benjamin: Abidan, son of Gideoni;
12 Di Dan, Aiezer figliuolo di Amisaddai.	12 from Dan: Ahiezer, son of Ammishaddai;

16 E questi sono i nobilissimi principi della moltitudine per tutte le tribù e loro cognazioni, e capi dello esercito d'Israel.	16 These were councilors of the community, princes of their ancestral tribes, chiefs of the troops of Israel.
17 Li quali sì gli pigliò Moisè e Aaron con grande moltitudine di popolo (e congregazioni).	17 So Moses and Aaron took these men who had been designated,
18 E raunaronsi lo primo dì del mese secondo, rassegnandoli per tutte le schiatte e per tutte le case e per tutte le famiglie e capi loro, e tutti i nomi di ciascuno da XX anni in su,	18 and assembled the whole community on the first day of the second month. Every man of twenty years or more then declared his name and lineage according to clan and ancestral house,
19 siccome comando Iddio a Moisè. E annumerogli nel deserto di Sinai.	19 as the LORD had commanded Moses. This is their census as taken in the desert of Sinai.
20 E di Ruben primogenito d'Israel, per tutte le sue generazioni e case e famiglie e nomi de capi loro, di maschi da XX anni in su, che andare poteano a battaglia, furono	20 Of the descendants of Reuben, the first-born of Israel, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,

42 De' figliuoli di Neftali, per tutte le sue case e le sue famiglie, da venti anni in su, che a battaglia potessero andare, ne sono usciti, per li nomi di ciascuno,	42 Of the descendants of Naphtali, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,
43 cinquantatrè migliaia, CCCC.	43 fifty-three thousand four hundred were enrolled in the tribe of Naphtali.
44 Questi sono quelli che annumerò Moisè e Aaron, con quelli duodeci principi d'Israel, per tutte le schiatte e generazioni loro.	44 It was these who were registered, each according to his ancestral house, in the census taken by Moses and Aaron and the twelve princes of Israel.

47 Della schiatta di Levi non ne fu niuno numerato tra coloro.	47 The Levites, however, were not registered by ancestral tribe with the others.
48 Parlò Iddio a Moisè, e dissegli:	48 For the LORD had told Moses,
49 La schiatta di Levi non la numerare; non ne porre la loro somma cogli figliuoli d'Israel.	49 "The tribe of Levi alone you shall not enroll nor include in the census along with the other Israelites.
50 Ma porraili alla guardia del tabernacolo della testimonianza, e sopra tutti li suoi vasi, e tutto quello che s'appartiene alle cerimonie. Loro porte ranno il tabernacolo e ogni adornamento; e loro staranno in guardia, sempre abitandovi appresso.	50 You are to give the Levites charge of the Dwelling of the commandments with all its equipment and all that belongs to it. It is they who shall carry the Dwelling with all its equipment and who shall be its ministers. They shall therefore camp around the Dwelling.
51 E quando s'anderà, li Leviti deponeranno il tabernacolo; quando si dirizzerà le tende d'alloggiare, [ lo leveranno ]. E se alcuno istrano si sia accostato, incontanente l'uccidano.	51 When the Dwelling is to move on, the Levites shall take it down; when the Dwelling is to be pitched, it is the Levites who shall set it up. Any layman who comes near it shall be put to death.
52 E ciascuno de' figliuoli d'Israel (per tutte le loro generazioni) porrà le sue tende per alloggiare, secondo le sue compagnie e uomini d'arme e lo suo esercito.	52 While the other Israelites shall camp by companies, each in his own division of the camp,
53 Ma i figliuoli di Levi tenderanno loro tende per lo circuito del tabernacolo, acciò che non sia indignazione sofra la moltitudine de' figliuoli d'Israel; e giaceranno ivi per guardia del tabernacolo della testimonianza.	53 the Levites shall camp around the Dwelling of the commandments. Otherwise God's wrath will strike the Israelite community. The Levites, then, shall have charge of the Dwelling of the commandments."
54 E fecero i figliuoli d'Israel, secondo che Iddio comandò a Moisè.	54 All this the Israelites fulfilled as the LORD had commanded Moses.
