1 E Daniele era della mensa del re, e onorato sopra tutti li amici suoi.	1 And so Daniel was living with the king, and he was honored above all his friends.
2 Ed era uno idolo, chiamato per nome Bel, appo quelli di Babilonia; e ogni dì erali dato dodici misure (ovver corbe, di pane, ovver) di farina, e pecore XL, e anfore sei di vino.	2 Now there was an idol with the Babylonians named Bel. And each day there was expended on him twelve great measures of fine flour, and forty sheep, and six vessels of wine.
3 E lo re lo adorava, e andava ogni uno ad adorarlo; ma Daniele adorava il suo Dio. E lo re disse a Daniele: per che non adori tu Bel?	3 The king likewise worshipped him and went each day to adore him, but Daniel adored his God. And the king said to him, “Why do you not adore Bel?”
4 E Daniele rispondendo sì li disse: io non adoro li idoli che sono stati fatti con le mani, ma io adoro Dio vivente, lo quale ha fatto il cielo e la terra, e ha autorità sopra ogni carne (ovver ogni uomo).	4 And answering, he said to him, “Because I do not worship idols made with hands, but the living God, who created heaven and earth, and who holds power over all flesh.”
5 E lo re si li disse: or come non ti pare che Bel sia Dio vivo? Non vedi tu quanto lui mangia e beve ogni di?	5 And the king said to him, “Does not Bel seem to you to be a living god? Do you not see how much he eats and drinks every day?”
6 E Daniel li disse ridendo: o re, poni mente che tu erri; questo idolo è di dentro di terra, e di fuori di bronzo, e non mangia mai.	6 Then Daniel said, smiling, “O king, do not make a mistake, for this one is clay on the inside and brass on the outside, and he has never eaten.”
7 E lo re irato chiamò li sacerdoti suoi, e disseli se voi non mi direte, chi è questo che mangia queste cose che sono date a Bel, voi morirete.	7 And the king, being angry, called for his priests and said to them, “If you do not tell me who it is that has eaten these expenses, you will die.
8 Se voi mi dimostrate che Bel mangia queste cose, morirà Daniele, però ch' egli ha blasfemato Bel. E disse Daniele al re: sia fatto secondo quello che tu hai detto.	8 But if you can show that Bel has eaten these, Daniel will die, because he has blasphemed against Bel.” And Daniel said to the king, “Let it be according to your word.”
9 Ed erano i sacerdoti di Bel LXX sanza le loro mogliere, figliuoli e fanciulli. E venne il re con Daniele nel tempio di Bel.	9 Now the priests of Bel were seventy, besides their wives, and little ones, and sons. And the king went with Daniel into the temple of Bel.
10 E dissero i sacerdoti di Bel: ecco, noi usciremo fuori, e tu, re, riponi le cose da mangiare, e mesi il vino, e chiudi la porta, e segnala col tuo anello.	10 And the priests of Bel said, “Behold, we are going out, and you, O king, set out the meats, and mix the wine, and close the door, and seal it with your ring.
11 E quando tu sarai entrato la mattina, se tu non troverai che Bel abbi mangiato tutto, siamo contenti di morire noi, ovvero Daniele lo quale ha detto falsamente contro a noi.	11 And when you have entered in the morning, if you have not found that Bel has consumed all, we will suffer death, or else Daniel will, who has lied against us.”
12 E facèvanosi beffe (delle parole di Daniele), però che aveano fatto sotto lo altare di Bel una secreta entrata, e per quella entravano sempre, e divoravano ciò che v' era.	12 But they had no concern because they had made a secret entrance under the table, and they always went in through it and devoured those things.
13 E dopo che li sacerdoti furono usciti, e che il re ebbe posto li cibi dinanzi a Bel, comandò Daniele alli suoi servi, e portorono della cenere, e fecela crivellare per tutto il tempio dinanzi al re; e usciti chiuderono l' uscio, e audorsene, poi che fu segnato coll' anello dello re.	13 And so it happened, after they had departed, that the king set the foods before Bel, and Daniel commanded his servants, and they brought ashes, and he sifted them throughout the temple in the sight of the king, and, as they left, they shut the door, and after sealing it with the king’s ring, they departed.
14 E li sacerdoti entrarono di notte secondo la sua consuetudine, e le mogliere e li suoi figliuoli; e mangiorono e bebero tutto ciò che v' era.	14 But the priests entered by night, according to their custom, with their wives, and their sons, and they ate and drank everything.
15 E levossi lo re la mattina per tempo, e Daniele con lui.	15 But the king arose at first light, and Daniel with him.
16 E disse lo re: Daniele, salvi sono li segni? Lo quale rispose: salvi sono, re.	16 And the king said, “Are the seals unbroken, Daniel?” And he answered, “They are unbroken, O king.”
17 E subito che fu aperto l' uscio, guardò lo re l'altare, e con voce alta disse: grande sei tu Bel, e appo te non v'è alcuno inganno.	17 And as soon as he had opened the door, the king stared at the table, and cried out with a loud voice, “Great are you, O Bel, and there is not any deceit with you.”
18 E Daniele se ne rise, e tenne il re acciò che non entrasse dentro, e disse: ecco il pavimento, considera di chi sono questi vestigi.	18 And Daniel laughed, and he held back the king, so that he would not enter, and he said, “Look at the pavement, notice whose footsteps these are.”
19 E disse il re: io vedo vestigi di uomini e di donne e di fanciulli. E irossi il re.	19 And the king said, “I see the footsteps of men, and women, and children.” And the king was angry.
20 E fece allora prendere li sacerdoti, le mogliere e li figliuoli loro; e dimostroroli li uscietti ascosti, per li quali entravano, e consumavano tutto quello ch' era su la mensa.	20 Then he apprehended the priests, and their wives, and their sons, and they showed him the secret doors through which they entered and consumed the things that were on the table.
21 Vedendo dunque questo, lo re feceli tutti uccidere, e diede Bel nella podestà di Daniele, lo qual lo sovvertì e disfecelo e ruinò il tempio.	21 Therefore, the king slaughtered them and delivered Bel into the power of Daniel, who overturned him and his temple.
22 Ed era uno dragone grande in quello luogo, e quelli di Babilonia sì lo adoravano.	22 And there was a great dragon in that place, and the Babylonians worshipped him.
23 E disse lo re a Daniele: ecco, tu non puoi dire che questo non sia Iddio vivo; adunque adoralo.	23 And the king said to Daniel, “Behold, now you cannot say that this is not a living god; therefore, adore him.”
24 E disse Daniele: io adoro il Signore mio Iddio, però che lui è Dio vivente; questo non è Dio vivente.	24 And Daniel said, “I adore the Lord, my God, for he is the living God. But that one is not a living god.
25 Ma tu, re, (fa questo ch' io ti dirò), dammi podestà, e io ucciderò questo dragone sanza coltello e sanza bastone. E disse lo re: io ti dò ogni autorità.	25 Therefore, you give me the power, O king, and I will execute this dragon without sword or club.” And the king said, “I give it to you.”
26 E tolse Daniele la pece, e grasso e peli, e sì li cosse insieme al fuoco, e fece una inassa, e diedela nella bocca del dragone, e uccise il dragone. E disse: ecco quello che voi adoravate.	26 And so Daniel took pitch, and fat, and hair, and cooked them together. And he made lumps and put them into the dragon’s mouth, and the dragon burst open. And he said, “Behold, this is what you worship.”
27 La qual cosa udita, quelli di Babilonia furono molto indignati; e congregoronsi contro al re, e dissero lo re fatto è Giudeo; egli ha distrutto Bel e ha morto il dragone, e li sacerdoti ha uccisi.	27 When the Babylonians had heard this, they were greatly indignant. And gathering together against the king, they said, “The king has become a Jew. He has destroyed Bel, he has executed the dragon, and he has slaughtered the priests.”
28 E quando furono venuti al re, dissero: dacci Daniele, altrimenti noi uccideremo te, e tutti quelli di casa tua.	28 And when they came to the king, they said, “Deliver Daniel to us, otherwise we will execute you and your house.”
29 E vedendo il re, che erano venuti con gran furore contra a lui, per forza costretto (di paura) li diede Daniele.	29 Thus the king saw that they pressured him vehemently, and so, being compelled by necessity, he delivered Daniel to them.
30 Li quali lo misero nello lago de' leoni; e stettevi sei dì.	30 And they cast him into the den of lions, and he was there for six days.
31 Certo nel lago v' era VII leoni, ed eravi dato ogni di due corpi (di quelli che erano condannati alla morte) e due pecore; e in quello tempo non li fu dato alcuna cosa, acciò che divorasseno Daniele.	31 Furthermore, in the den there were seven lions, and they had given to them two carcasses every day, and two sheep, but then they were not given to them, so that they would devour Daniel.
32 Ed era Abacuc profeta in Giudea, ed egli avea cotto il ferculo, e avea posto il pane nell' orciuolo; e andàvasene nel campo per portarlo a quelli che tagliavano la sua biada.	32 Now there was in Judea a prophet called Habakkuk, and he had cooked a small meal and had broken bread in a bowl, and he was going into the field, to bring it to the harvesters.
33 E disse l'angelo di Dio ad Abacuc: porta questo, che hai preparato per pranzo, in Babilonia a Daniele, lo quale è nel lago de' leoni.	33 And the angel of the Lord said to Habakkuk, “Carry the meal that you have into Babylon, to Daniel, who is in the lions’ den.”
34 E disse Abacuc: Signore, io non vidi giammai Babilonia, e lo lago non so dove si sia.	34 And Habakkuk said, “Lord, I have not seen Babylon, and I do not know the den.”
35 E l'angelo del Signore lo pigliò per uno capello della cima del capo suo, e portollo e puoselo in Babilonia sopra lo lago nell' impeto del suo spirito.	35 And the angel of the Lord seized him by the top of his head, and carried him by the hair of his head, and set him in Babylon, over the den, by the force of his spirit.
36 E chiamò Abacuc, dicendo: Daniele, servo di Dio, piglia lo pranzo lo quale t'ha mandato Iddio.	36 And Habakkuk shouted, saying, “Daniel, servant of God, take the dinner that God has sent you.”
37 E disse Daniele: sei ricordato di me, Iddio, e non hai abbandonato quelli che te amano.	37 And Daniel said, “You have remembered me, O God, and you have not abandoned those who love you.”
38 E levandosi Daniele mangiò. E poi l' angelo rimise subito Abacuc nel luogo suo.	38 And Daniel arose and ate. And then the angel of the Lord immediately returned Habakkuk to his place.
39 E lo settimo dì venne lo re per piagnere Daniele; e venne al lago, e guardò dentro; ed ecco che vidde Daniele che sedeva nel mezzo de' leoni.	39 And so, on the seventh day, the king came to morn Daniel. And he came to the den, and gazed in, and behold, Daniel was sitting in the midst of the lions.
40 E gridò con alta voce, e disse: grande sei tu, Iddio di Daniele. E fecelo trar fuori del lago de' leoni.	40 And the king cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Great are you, O Lord, the God of Daniel.” And he pulled him out of the lions’ den.
41 E coloro che erano stati cagione della sua perdizione, li fece poner nel lago; e furo divorati sùbito dinanzi a lui.	41 Furthermore, those who had been the cause of his downfall, he hurled into the den, and they were devoured in a moment before him.
	42 Then the king said, “Let all the inhabitants of the whole earth fear the God of Daniel. For he is the Savior, working signs and miracles on earth, who has freed Daniel from the lions’ den.”
