| 1 E disse a me lo Signore: togli uno grande libro, e scrivi in quello con stilo di uomo, (cioè sì che l'uomo lo possi intendere): spoglia velocemente, (biasema), ruba tosto. | 1 Then the LORD said to me, "Take a large tablet and write upon it in common characters, 'Belonging to Maher-shalal-hash-baz.'" |
| 2 Io ebbi testimoni fedeli, cioè Uria sacerdote e Zacaria figliuolo di Barachia. | 2 And I got reliable witnesses, Uriah the priest and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah, to attest for me. |
| 3 E andai alla profetessa, e concepette, e partorì lo figliuolo. E disse Iddio a me: chiama lo suo nome; affrèttati, spoglia (biasima) e affrèttati di rubare: (tutto vuole dire in queste parole, che chiami cioè in Cristo, e spoglisi e affrettisi di rubare, cioè lo inferno dove erano li santi Padri, che li liberasse). | 3 And I went to the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son. Then the LORD said to me, "Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz; |
| 4 Però che, inanzi che il fanciullo sappia chiamare il suo padre ovvero la madre, la fortezza di Damasco sarà toita via, e li spogliamenti di Samaria, inanzi allo re di quelli di Siria. | 4 for before the child knows how to cry 'My father' or 'My mother,' the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria will be carried away before the king of Assyria." |
| 5 E anco disse Iddio a me: | 5 The LORD spoke to me again: |
| 6 Perciò che questo popolo ha gittate le acque del Siloe, le quali vanno con silenzio, e pigliò più Rasin e lo figliuolo di Romelia; | 6 "Because this people have refused the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, and melt in fear before Rezin and the son of Remaliah; |
| 7 e però ecco; Iddio adducerà sopra loro le acque del fiume forti e molte, il re delli Assiri, e ogni sua gloria; e salirà sopra ogni suo rivo, e scorrerà sopra tutte le sue ripe. | 7 therefore, behold, the Lord is bringing up against them the waters of the River, mighty and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory; and it will rise over all its channels and go over all its banks; |
| 8 E anderà allagando per tutto Giuda, e passando verrà insino al collo (cioè a conculcarvi). E [sarà] lo distendimento delle sue ali, riempiendo la larghezza delle tue terre, (io dico a te), o Emanuel. | 8 and it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass on, reaching even to the neck; and its outspread wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanu-el." |
| 9 Radunatevi, popoli, e sarete superati; e udite tutte le terre della lunga; confortatevi e sarete superati, e apparecchiatevi e sarete superati. | 9 Be broken, you peoples, and be dismayed; give ear, all you far countries; gird yourselves and be dismayed; gird yourselves and be dismayed. |
| 10 E fate consiglio, e sarà disfatto; parlate la parola, e non se ne farà alcuna cosa, però che Iddio è con noi. | 10 Take counsel together, but it will come to nought; speak a word, but it will not stand, for God is with us. |
| 11 Però che questo dice Iddio a me: sì come elli ammaestrò me nella sua mano forte, acciò non andassi nella via di questo popolo, dicendo: | 11 For the LORD spoke thus to me with his strong hand upon me, and warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying: |
| 12 Non dite: congiurazione; perciò che tutto quello che parla questo popolo è congiurazione; e non temete a sua paura, Lè (per questo) state sbigottiti. | 12 "Do not call conspiracy all that this people call conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. |
| 13 Santificate il Signore delli eserciti; e quello sia vostro timore (e vostra paura) e vostro spaventamento. | 13 But the LORD of hosts, him you shall regard as holy; let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. |
| 14 E lui sarà vostra santificazione; e in pietra d'offensione sarà, e scandalo a due (sue) case d'Israel; alli abitanti di Ierusalem in laccio e in rovina. | 14 And he will become a sanctuary, and a stone of offense, and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. |
| 15 E in molti dolori saranno offesi, e cadranno, e saranno spezzati, e presi (nella rete). | 15 And many shall stumble thereon; they shall fall and be broken; they shall be snared and taken." |
| 16 Lega lo testimonio (sempre, cioè mandalo), e segna la legge nelli miei discepoli. | 16 Bind up the testimony, seal the teaching among my disciples. |
| 17 Io aspettarò il Signore, il quale ha nascosto la faccia sua dalla casa di Iacob, e aspettarò lui. | 17 I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in him. |
| 18 Eccomi io, e i miei fanciulli, li quali Iddio mi diede per segno e per maraviglia d' Israel dal Signore delli eserciti il quale abita nel monte di Sion. | 18 Behold, I and the children whom the LORD has given me are signs and portents in Israel from the LORD of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion. |
| 19 E quando averanno detto a voi: addomandate dalli incantatori e dalli indovini, i quali nelle loro incantazioni orano e invocano; or non dimanderà il popolo dal loro Iddio la visione per li vivi e per li morti? | 19 And when they say to you, "Consult the mediums and the wizards who chirp and mutter," should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living? |
| 20 E averanno ricorso più tosto alla legge e alla sua testificazione. E se non averanno detto secondo questa parola, non sarà a loro luce mattutina. | 20 To the teaching and to the testimony! Surely for this word which they speak there is no dawn. |
| 21 E passerà per quella, e caderà, e averà fame; e quando averà fame, maledicerà al suo re e al suo Iddio, e riguarderà di sopra. | 21 They will pass through the land, greatly distressed and hungry; and when they are hungry, they will be enraged and will curse their king and their God, and turn their faces upward; |
| 22 E riguarderà la terra, e quivi sarà tribulazione e tenebre, e dissoluzione e angoscia, e caligine (cioè oscurilade) perseguitante; e non potrà volare (cioè uscire) dalla sua angoscia. | 22 and they will look to the earth, but behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish; and they will be thrust into thick darkness. |
