1 Non come crudele susciterò lui; chi adunque puote resistere al mio volto?	1 Whoever might vainly hope to do so need only see him to be overthrown.
2 E chi mi diede innanzi nulla, ch' io glie lo renda? Tutte le cose che sono sotto lo cielo, sono mie.	2 Is he not relentless when aroused; who then dares stand before him?
3 Non perdoneroe a lui colle potenti parole e composte a pregare.	3 Who has assailed him and come off safe-- Who under all the heavens?
4 Chi rivelerae la faccia del suo vestire? e chi entrerà nel mezzo della sua bocca?	4 I need hardly mention his limbs, his strength, and the fitness of his armor.
5 Le porte del suo volto chi aprirà? Intorno delli suoi denti è la paura.	5 Who can strip off his outer garment, or penetrate his double corselet?
6 Lo suo corpo, quasi scuta fondute, è congiunto colle prementi scaglie.	6 Who can force open the doors of his mouth, close to his terrible teeth?
7 L'una all' una si congiugne, acciò che niuno spiraglio vada per quelle.	7 Rows of scales are on his back, tightly sealed together;
8 L'una all' altra s' accosteranno, e tenenti sè non si partiranno.	8 They are fitted each so close to the next that no space intervenes;
9 Lo sternutamento suo splendore è di fuoco, e gli occhii suoi come palpebre dell' aurora.	9 So joined one to another that they hold fast and cannot be parted.
10 Della sua bocca procederanno le lampade, sì come le tede accese di fuoco.	10 When he sneezes, light flashes forth; his eyes are like those of the dawn.
11 Uscirae delle nari sue fumo, sì come di pentole accese e bollenti.	11 Out of his mouth go forth firebrands; sparks of fire leap forth.
12 L'alito suo fa ardere li pruni, e la fiamma uscì della sua bocca.	12 From his nostrils issues steam, as from a seething pot or bowl.
13 Nello suo collo starae la fortezza, e la povertà va innanzi alla sua faccia.	13 His breath sets coals afire; a flame pours from his mouth.
14 Le membra delle sue carni accostantisi a lui; manda contro a lui le saette, e ad altro luogo non sono portate.	14 Strength abides in his neck, and terror leaps before him.
15 E lo suo cuore s' indurerae come pietra; strignerassi come massa di ferro malleata.
16 Quando sarae tolto, temeranno gli angeli, e spaventati si purgheranno.	16 His heart is hard as stone; his flesh, as the lower millstone.
17 Quando piglierae lui lo coltello, sostenere non potrae nè l'asta nè la corazza.	17 When he rises up, the mighty are afraid; the waves of the sea fall back.
18 Riputerae come paglia lo ferro, e sì come legno puzzolente lo rame.	18 Should the sword reach him, it will not avail; nor will the spear, nor the dart, nor the javelin.
19 E non scaccerà lui l'uomo sagittario; e tornate sono a lui in istipula le pietre della fionda.	19 He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood.
20 Quasi stipula stimerà lo maglio, e dileggerà lo movente l'asta.	20 The arrow will not put him to flight; slingstones used against him are but straws.
21 Sotto lui saranno li radii del sole, e sottometterà a lui l'oro come il fango.	21 Clubs he esteems as splinters; he laughs at the crash of the spear.
22 E bollire farae, come pentola, lo profondo mare; porrà come quando li unguenti bollono.	22 His belly is sharp as pottery fragments; he spreads like a threshing sledge upon the mire.
23 Dopo lui lucerae la via, e stimerae l'abisso quasi come invecchiante.	23 He makes the depths boil like a pot; the sea he churns like perfume in a kettle.
24 Non v'è sopra la terra signoria, che s' assomigli a lui, il quale è fatto che niuno temesse.	24 Behind him he leaves a shining path; you would think the deep had the hoary head of age.
25 Ogni cosa alta vede, ed elli è re sopra tutti i figliuoli della superbia.	25 Upon the earth there is not his like, intrepid he was made.
