BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Rispose Sofar Naamatite, e disse:	1 Zophar of Naamath spoke next. He said:
2 Adunque li miei pensieri varii succedono a loro, e la mente nelle cose diverse è tolta.	2 My thoughts urge me to reply to this, and hence the impatience that grips me.
3 La dottrina, colla quale mi riprendi, udirò; e lo spirito della mia intelligenza mi risponderà.	3 I have put up with prating that outrages me and now my mind inspires me with an answer.
4 Questo so, dal principio che posto è l' uomo sopra la terra,	4 Do you not know, that since time began and human beings were set on the earth,
5 che la lode delli malvagi è breve, e l' allegrezza delli ipocriti è assomigliata a uno punto.	5 the triumph of the wicked has always been brief, and the sinner's gladness has never lasted long?
6 (E questo so dal principio della mia intelligenza :) se salirà insino al cielo la [sua] superbia, e lo capo suo toccherà li nuvoli,	6 Towering to the sky he may have been, his head touching the clouds;
7 sarà perduto nella fine, sì come immondizia; e coloro che l' aveano veduto, diranno: dov'è?	7 but he vanishes, like a phantom, once for al , while those who used to see him, ask, 'Where is he?'
8 E, sì come sogno volante, non sarà trovato; e passerà sì come visione di notte.	8 Like a dream that leaves no trace he takes his flight, like a vision in the night he flies away.
9 E l'occhio, che l' avea veduto, non lo vedrà; e non più oltre (non lo) ragguarderà lui lo suo luogo.	9 The eye accustomed to see him sees him no more, his home wil never set eyes on him again.
10 Li suoi figliuoli saranno asseccati colla povertà, e le sue mani li renderanno lo dolore suo.	10 His sons will have to reimburse the poor and his children pay back his riches.
11 L'ossa sue saranno ripiene de' vizii della sua giovenza, e con lui [nel] la polvere dormiranno.	11 His bones used to be ful of youthful vigour: and there it lies, in the dust with him, now!
12 E conciosia cosa che dolce sarà stato lo male nella bocca [sua], nasconderà quello sotto la sua lingua.	12 Evil was sweet to his mouth, he would shelter it under his tongue;
13 Perdonerà a colui, e non abbandonerà lui, e asconderallo nella gola sua.	13 cultivating it careful y, he would let it linger on his palate.
14 Lo pane nel ventre suo tornerà in fiele delli aspidi dentro.	14 Such food goes bad in his bel y, working inside him like the poison of a viper.
15 Le ricchezze, le quali devoroe, rimanderae fuori; del ventre suo ne le caverà Iddio.	15 Now he has to vomit up the wealth that he has swal owed, God makes him disgorge it.
16 Lo capo delli aspidi suggerae, e ucciderae lui la lingua della vipera.	16 He used to suck vipers' venom, and the tongue of the adder kills him.
17 Non vedrà li rivoli del fiume, menante miele e butirro.	17 No more will he know the streams of oil or the torrents of honey and cream.
18 E piagnerae ogni cosa che fece; impertanto non si consumerae, e così sofferrà secondo la moltitudine delle sue cose ritrovate.	18 When he gives back his winnings, his cheerfulness wil fade, and the satisfied air he had whenbusiness was thriving.
19 Perciò che costrignente spoglioe la casa del povero; rapilla e non la edificoe.	19 Since he once destroyed the huts of the poor, plundering houses instead of building them up,
20 E non è saziato lo suo ventre; e quando avrà quello ch' avrà desiderato, nol potrae possedere.	20 since his avarice could never be satisfied, now al his hoarding will not save him;
21 Non rimanerae del suo cibo; e perciò neuna cosa rimarrà de' suoi beni.	21 since nothing could escape his greed, his prosperity wil not last.
22 Quando sarà saziato, s'astrignerà e riscalderassi; ogni dolore rimarrà in lui e rovinerae.	22 When he has everything he needs, want wil seize him, and misery wil light on him with all its force.
23 E Iddio il volesse, che sia empiuto lo ventre suo, acciò che mandi in lui l'ira del suo furore, e piova sopra lui la sua battaglia.	23 On him God looses al his burning wrath, hurling against his flesh a hail of arrows.
24 L'arme del ferro fuggirà, e caderae nell'arco del metallo.	24 If he escapes the weapons of iron, the bow of bronze wil transfix him.
25 Menato e tratto della sua guaina, e mandando lampi nella sua amaritudine; andranno e verranno sopra lui le orribili cose.	25 Out of his back sticks an arrow, from his gal a shining point. The terrors advance on him,
26 Tutte le tenebre sono nascose negli occhii suoi, e devorerae lui il fuoco il quale non si spegnerae; sarae tormentato, abbandonato nel suo tabernacolo.	26 all the hidden darknesses are waiting to carry him off. A fire unlit by human hand devours him, andconsumes what is left in his tent.
27 Riveleranno i cieli la sua iniquitade, e la terra si rizzerae contra lui.	27 The heavens lay bare his iniquity, and the earth rises up against him.
28 Aperto sarà lo germoglio della sua casa, e sarà detratto nel dì del furore di Dio.	28 The income of his house pours away, like the torrents, on the day of retribution.
29 Questa è la parte dell' uomo malvagio da Dio, e la eredità delle sue parole (veramente verranno).	29 Such is the fate God reserves for the wicked, the inheritance he assigns to the accursed!
