BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E partiti sono di Elim, e venne tutta la moltitudine de' figliuoli d'Israel nel deserto di Sin, il quale è intra Elim e Sinai, lo quintodecimo dì del mese secondo, poscia che egli vennero della terra d'Egitto.	1 Setting out from Elim, the whole community of Israelites entered the desert of Sin, lying between Elimand Sinai -- on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had left Egypt.
2 E mormorò tutta la congregazione delli figliuoli d'Israel contra Moisè ed Aaron nella solitudine.	2 And the whole community of Israelites began complaining about Moses and Aaron in the desert
3 E dissero a loro: Dio il volesse, che noi fos simo morti per la mano del Signore nella terra di Egitto, quando sedavamo sopra le pentole della carne e mangiavamo li pani in saturitade! perchè mena ste noi nel deserto, acciò che voi uccideste tutta la moltitudine di fame?	3 and said to them, 'Why did we not die at Yahweh's hand in Egypt, where we used to sit round the fleshpots and could eat to our heart's content! As it is, you have led us into this desert to starve this entire assemblyto death!'
4 Ma disse lo Signore a Moisè: ecco, io pioverò a voi lo pane del cielo; vada lo popolo, e rauni quello che basti per ciascheduno dì, acciò ch' io tenti lui, s'egli vae nella legge mia.	4 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Look, I shal rain down bread for you from the heavens. Each day thepeople must go out and collect their ration for the day; I propose to test them in this way to see whether they wilfol ow my law or not.
5 Ma lo sesto die apparecchino quelle cose che induceranno; e sia doppio che quello che soliano ricogliere per cadauno di.	5 On the sixth day, however, when they prepare what they have brought in, this must be twice as muchas they col ect on ordinary days.'
6 E dissero Moisè ed Aaron a tutti li figliuoli d'Israel: nel vespro saperete, che lo Signore abbia menato voi della terra d'Egitto.	6 Moses and Aaron then said to the whole community of Israelites, 'This evening you wil know that itwas Yahweh who brought you out of Egypt,
7 E la mattina vederete la gloria del Signore Iddio: in verità io ho udito lo mormorare vostro contro lo Signore: noi veramente che siamo, però che mormorate contra noi?	7 and tomorrow morning you wil see the glory of Yahweh, for Yahweh has heard your complaints abouthim. What are we, that your complaint should be against us?'
8 E disse Moisè: darà a voi lo Signore a vespro delle carni a mangiare, e la mattina li pani in saturità; perciò che egli udì la mormorazione vostra, con la quale mormoraste contra lui. Ma noi che siamo? Nè contra noi è la mormorazione vostra, ma contra a Dio.	8 Moses then said, 'This evening Yahweh wil give you meat to eat, and tomorrow morning bread to yourheart's content, for Yahweh has heard your complaints about him. What do we count for? Your complaints arenot against us, but against Yahweh.'
9 E disse Moisè ad Aaron: dì a tutta la congregazione de' figliuoli d'Israel: andate dinanzi al Signore, perciò che egli udì lo mormorar vostro.	9 Moses then said to Aaron, 'Say to the whole community of Israelites, "Approach Yahweh's presence,for he has heard your complaints." '
10 E quando favellava Aaron ad ogni schiatta de' figliuoli d'Israel, ragguardarono alla solitudine; ed ecco la gloria del Signore apparì nella nuvola.	10 As Aaron was speaking to the whole community of Israelites, they turned towards the desert, andthere the glory of Yahweh appeared in the cloud.
11 E favellò lo Signore a Moisè, dicendo:	11 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said,
12 Io udii le mormorazioni de' figliuoli d'Israel, (colle quali contra noi mormorarono); favella a loro: nel vespro mangerete la carne, e la mattina vi saturerete di pane; e saperete ch' io sono lo Signore Iddio vostro.	12 'I have heard the Israelites' complaints. Speak to them as follows, "At twilight you wil eat meat, and inthe morning you will have bread to your heart's content, and then you wil know that I am Yahweh your God." '
13 Fatto è adunque lo vespro, e saliente la cotornice coprì li castelli; ma la mattina la rugiada stava nello circuito delli castelli.	13 That evening, quails flew in and covered the camp, and next morning there was a layer of dew alround the camp.
14 E conciosia cosa ch' egli coprisse la faccia della terra, apparì nella solitudine minuto, e quasi pelo tonduto, in similitudine di brinata sopra la terra.	14 When the layer of dew lifted, there on the surface of the desert was something fine and granular, asfine as hoarfrost on the ground.
15 La qual cosa qnando la viddero li figliuoli d'Israel, dissero insieme: Manhu? che significa: che è questo? E non sapeano quello che fosse. Ai quali disse Moisè: questo è lo pane, lo quale diede lo Signore a voi a mangiare.	15 As soon as the Israelites saw this, they said to one another, 'What is that ?' not knowing what it was.'That', Moses told them, 'is the food which Yahweh has given you to eat.
16 Questa è la parola, la quale comandò lo Signore: ricolgane di quello ciascheduno quanto gli basta a mangiare; gomor (cioè una misura) per ciascheduno capo, secondo lo numero delle anime vostre, le quali abitano nel tabernacolo, così torrete.	16 These are Yahweh's orders: Each of you must collect as much as he needs to eat -- a homer perhead for each person in his tent.'
17 E fecero così li figliuoli d'Israel; e ricolse alcuno più, e alcuno meno.	17 The Israelites did this. They col ected it, some more, some less.
18 E misurarono alla misura di gomor; nè co lui che più n' avea ricolta più ampiamente n'ebbe, nè colui che meno n'avea apparecchiata ne ritrovoe meno; ma tutti, secondo quello che mangiare poteano raunaronsi.	18 When they measured out what they had col ected by the homer, no one who had collected more hadtoo much, no one who had col ected less had too little. Each had col ected as much as he needed to eat.
19 E disse Moisè a loro; niuno ne lassi di quello la mattina.	19 Moses then said, 'No one may keep any of it for tomorrow.'
20 I quali non udirono lui, ma lasciàronne alcuno di loro insino alla mattina; e cominciò produrre li vermini, e putiva. Adirato fu contra di loro Moisè.	20 But some of them took no notice of Moses and kept part of it for the fol owing day, and it bredmaggots and smelt foul; and Moses was angry with them.
21 Ma raunavano ciascheduno di loro la mattina quanto bastare potea a mangiare; e quando calava lo sole, facevasi liquido.	21 Morning by morning they collected it, each man as much as he needed to eat, and once the sun grewhot, it melted away.
22 Ma nel dì sesto raunavano li cibi doppii, cioè due gomor per ciascheduno uomo: e vennero tutti li principi della moltitudine, e dissero a Moisè.	22 Now, on the sixth day they col ected twice the amount of food: two homer per person, and al theleaders of the community came and told Moses this.
23 Il quale disse a loro: questo è quello che disse lo Signore: lo riposo del sabbato santificato sarà al Signore domane; quello che è da operare fate, e quelle cose che sono da cuocere, cuocetele; e qualunque cosa rimanesse, riponetela insino alla mattina.	23 Moses replied, 'This is what Yahweh said, "Tomorrow is a day of complete rest, a Sabbath sacred toYahweh. Bake what you want to bake, boil what you want to boil; put aside what is left over, to be kept fortomorrow."
24 E fecero così come comandò Moisè; e non puzzò, nè niuno vermine è trovato in quello.	24 So, as Moses ordered, they put it aside for the fol owing day, and its smel was not foul nor werethere maggots in it.
25 Disse Moisè: mangiate quello oggi, perciò che l'è il sabbato del Signore; non se ne troverà oggi nel campo.	25 'Eat it today,' Moses said, 'for today is a Sabbath for Yahweh; you will find none in the fields today.
26 Sei dì la recogliete; ma nel dì settimo, sabbato è del Signore; però non se ne troverà.	26 For six days you wil col ect it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there wil be none.'
27 Venne lo settimo dì; e venute fuori le genti del popolo acciò che ne ricogliessero, non ne trovarono.	27 On the seventh day some of the people went out to col ect it, but they found none.
28 E disse lo Signore a Moisè: perchè non vo lete guardare li comandamenti miei e la legge mia?	28 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'How much longer wil you refuse to obey my commandments and laws?
29 Vedete che ha dato a voi lo Signore lo sabbato; e per questo ha dato voi lo dì sesto li cibi doppii; stia ciascuno appresso sè medesimo; niuno si parta dal luogo suo lo dì settimo.	29 Look, Yahweh has given you the Sabbath; this is why he gives you two days' food on the sixth day;each of you must stay in his place; on the seventh day no one may leave his home.'
30 Perciò festeggiò lo popolo lo sabbato, lo dì settimo.	30 So on the seventh day the people rested.
31 E appellò la casa d'Israel lo nome suo Manna: perciò ch' egli era quasi come seme di coriandi bianchi, al gusto suo quasi come simile col miele.	31 The House of Israel named it 'manna'. It was like coriander seed; it was white and its taste was likethat of wafers made with honey.
32 Ma disse Moisè: questa è la parola che comandò lo Signore: empi lo gomor di quello, e sia reservato alla generazione la quale dee venire dietro, acciò ch' ella conosca lo pane del quale io notricai voi nella solitudine, quando ne foste menati della terra d'Egitto.	32 Moses then said, 'These are Yahweh's orders: Fil a homer with it and preserve it for yourdescendants, so that they can see the bread on which I fed you in the desert when I brought you out of Egypt.'
33 E disse [ Moisè] ad Aaron: togli uno vasello, e mettivi dentro la manna, quanto ve ne puote capere lo gomor; e riponilo innanzi al Signore a servare nelle generazioni vostre,	33 Moses then said to Aaron, 'Take a jar and in it put a full homer of manna and store it in Yahweh'spresence, to be kept for your descendants.'
34 siccome comandò lo Signore a Moisè. E pose quello Aaron a riservare nel tabernacolo.	34 Accordingly, Aaron stored it in front of the Testimony, to be preserved, as Yahweh had orderedMoses.
35 Li figliuoli d'Israel mangiarono la manna XL anni, tanto che venissero nella terra abitabile. Con questo cibo nutricati sono, insino che toccarono li fini della terra Canaan.	35 The Israelites ate manna for forty years, up to the time they reached inhabited country: they atemanna up to the time they reached the frontiers of Canaan.
36 Ma lo gomor è la decima parte di efi.	36 A homer is one-tenth of an ephah.
