1 Ma Gesù andò al monte degli Ulivi.	1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2 E sul far del giorno tornò di nuovo nel tempio, e tutto il popolo accorse a lui ed egli sedutosi, l'ammaestrava.	2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3 Allora gli Scribi ed i Farisei gli condussero una donna colta in adulterio e, postala in mezzo,	3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4 gli dissero: Maestro, questa donna è stata sorpresa in flagrante adulterio.	4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 Or Mosè nella legge ci ha comandato che queste tali siano lapidate; e tu che ne dici?	5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6 E dicevan questo per metterlo alla prova e per poterlo accusare. Ma Gesù, chinatosi, si mise a scrivere col dito in terra.	6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 E siccome continuavano ad interrogarlo, si alzò e disse loro: Chi di voi è senza peccato, scagli contro di lei la prima pietra.	7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 E di nuovo chinatosi, seguitò a scrivere in terra.	8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 Ma quelli udito ciò, uno dopo l'altro se ne andarono tutti, cominciando dai più vecchi, e Gesù restò solo con la donna là in mezzo.	9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 Allora, Gesù, alzatosi, disse alla donna: Dove sono, o donna, quelli che ti accusavano? Nessuno ti ha condannata?	10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 Ed ella: Nessuno, Signore. E Gesù le disse: Nemmeno io ti condannerò: va' e non peccare più.	11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
12 Di nuovo Gesù parlò ad essi, dicendo: Io sono la luce del mondo: chi mi segue non camminerà nelle tenebre, ma avrà la luce della vita.	12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
13 Gli dissero allora i Farisei: Tu rendi testimonianza di te stesso, la tua testimonianza non vale.	13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
14 Gesù replicò loro: Sebbene io renda testimonianza di me stesso, val sempre la mia testimonianza, perchè so donde son venuto e dove vado; ma voi non sapete donde io verga e dove io vada.	14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
15 Voi giudicate secondo la carne: io non giudico nessuno;	15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
16 e se giudico io, il mio giudizio è vero, perchè non sono solo; ma con me è il Padre che mi ha inviato.	16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
17 Ed anche nella vostra legge sta scritto che è valida la testimonianza di due persone.	17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
18 Ora a rendere testimonianza di me stesso ci sono io ed il Padre che mi ha mandato.	18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
19 Gli dissero allora: Dov'è tuo Padre? Rispose Gesù: Non conoscete nè me nè il mio Padre; se conosceste me, conoscereste anche il mio Padre.	19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
20 Tali parole disse Gesù nel gazofilacio, insegnando nel tempio, e nessuno lo prese, perchè non era ancora giunta l'ora sua.	20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
21 Di nuovo Gesù disse loro: Io me ne vado, e mi cercherete, e morrete nel vostro peccato. Dove vado io, voi non potete venire.	21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
22 Dicevan perciò i Giudei: Si ucciderà forse da se stesso, chè dice: Dove io vado non potete venire?	22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
23 Ed egli replicò loro: Voi siete di quaggiù; io sono di lassù. Voi siete di questo mondo; io non sono di questo mondo:	23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
24 perciò vi ho detto che morrete nei vostri peccati; perchè se non credete che io sono, morrete nei vostri peccati.	24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
25 Gli dissero allora: E chi sei tu? Gesù rispose loro: Il principio che parlo a voi.	25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
26 Molto ho da dire e condannare riguardo a voi, ma colui che m'ha mandato è verace, quanto ho udito da lui quello dico al mondo.	26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
27 E non intesero che parlava di suo Padre, Dio.	27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.
28 Disse dunque loro Gesù: Quando avrete innalzato il Figlio dell'uomo, allora conoscerete chi sono io, e che niente faccio da me, e che dico quello che il Padre mi ha insegnato.	28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
29 E chi mi ha mandato è con me e non mi ha lasciato solo, perchè io faccio sempre quello che è di suo piacimento.	29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
30 A queste sue parole molti credettero in lui.	30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.
31 Ma Gesù disse ai Giudei che avevano in lui creduto: Se persevererete nei miei insegnamenti, sarete veramente miei discepoli	31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 e conoscerete la verità, e la verità vi farà liberi.	32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 Gli opposero: Siamo progenie di Abramo, nè giammai servimmo ad alcuno, come dunque dici tu: Sarete liberi?	33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 Rispose loro Gesù: In verità, in verità vi dico: chi fa il peccato è servo del peccato.	34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35 Or il servo non sta sempre in casa, il figlio invece vi sta sempre.	35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36 Se dunque il figlio vi libera, sarete veramente liberi.	36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
37 Lo so che siete figli di Àbramo; ma intanto cercate di uccidermi, perchè la mia parola non penetra in voi.	37 I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
38 Io dico quel che ho visto presso il Padre mio, e voi pure fate quello che avete imparato dal padre vostro.	38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
39 Gli replicarono: Il padre nostro è Abramo. Rispose loro Gesù: Se siete figli di Abramo fate le opere di Abramo.	39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
40 Ma intanto cercate di uccider me, chè v'ho detto la verità da me udita da Dio: Abramo non fece così.	40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
41 Voi fate le opere del padre vostro. Gli risposero: Non siamo mica dei bastardi; abbiamo Dio per unico padre.	41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
42 Se Dio fosse vostro padre, disse allora Gesù, certamente mi amereste, perchè io procedo e vengo da Dio e non sono venuto da me stesso, ma egli mi ha mandato.	42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43 Perchè non capite il mio linguaggio? Perchè non potete soffrire i miei discorsi?	43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44 Voi avete per padre il diavolo e volete soddisfare i desideri del padre vostro; esso fu omicida fin da principio, e non perseverò nella verità, perchè in lui non c'è verità; quando mentisce parla da suo pari, perchè è bugiardo e padre della menzogna.	44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45 A me perchè vi dico la verità non credete.	45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
46 Chi di voi mi potrà convincere di peccato? Se io vi dico la verità, perchè non mi credete?	46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
47 Chi è da Dio ascolta le parole di Dio. Per questo voi non le ascoltate, perchè non siete da Dio.	47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
48 Replicarono i Giudei: Non diciamo con ragione che tu sei un samaritano e indemoniato?	48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
49 Gesù rispose: Io non sono indemoniato; ma onoro il Padre mio e voi mi vituperate.	49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
50 Ma io non cerco la mia gloria, c'è chi ne prende cura e ne giudica.	50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
51 In verità in verità vi dico: chi custodisce la mia parola non vedrà la morte in eterno.	51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
52 Gli dissero allora i Giudei: Or vediamo bene che tu sei posseduto da un demonio. Abramo è morto, e così i profeti e tu dici: Chi custodisce la mia parola non vedrà la morte in eterno?	52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
53 Sei forse da più del padre nostro Abramo, che è morto? Ed anche i profeti sono morti. Chi credi mai di essere?	53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
54 Gesù rispose: Se io glorifico me stesso, la mia gloria è nulla: c'è a glorificarmi il Padre mio, il quale voi dite essere Dio vostro;	54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
55 ma non lo avete conosciuto. Io sì che lo conosco, e se dicessi di non conoscerlo, sarei, come voi, bugiardo. Ma io lo conosco, ed osservo le sue parole.	55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
56 Abramo, padre vostro, sospirò di vedere il mio giorno: lo vide e ne tripudiò.	56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
57 Gli opposero i Giudei: Non hai ancora cinquant'anni e hai veduto Abramo?	57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58 Gesù rispose loro: In verità, in verità vi dico: prima che Abramo fosse nato, io sono.	58 Jesus said unto them, Verily,verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
59 Dettero allora di piglio alle pietre per tirargliele; ma Gesù si nascose ed uscì dal tempio.	59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
