Deuteronomio 11

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ama adunque il Signore Dio tuo, osserva in ogni tempo i suoi precetti, le sue cerimonie, le sue ordinazioni e i suoi comandamenti.	1 'You must love Yahweh your God and always keep his observances, his laws, his customs, hiscommandments.
2 Riconoscete oggi ciò che ignorano i vostri figli, i quali non videro i castighi del Signore Dio vostro, i suoi prodigi, la sua mano potente, il suo braccio steso,	2 You are the ones who have had the experience, not your children. They have not had the experience,they have not witnessed the lessons of Yahweh your God, his greatness, his mighty hand and his outstretchedarm,
3 i segni e le opere che egli fece in mezzo all'Egitto sopra il re Faraone e sopra tutto il suo paese,	3 the signs and the deeds which he performed in the heart of Egypt, against Pharaoh king of Egypt andhis entire country,
4 sopra tutto l'esercito degli Egiziani, sopra i cavalli e i carri, come le acque del Mar Rosso li ricopersero, quando essi v'inseguivano, e come il Signore li distrusse per sempre,	4 what he did to the armies of Egypt, to their horses and their chariots, by overwhelming them with thewaters of the Sea of Reeds when they were pursuing you, and leaving no trace of them to this day;
5 e quel che ha fatto per voi nel deserto finché non siete arrivati a questo luogo,	5 what he did for you in the desert, until you arrived here;
6 e quel che fece a Datari e Abiron figli di Eliab, figlio di Ruben, come la terra spalancò la bocca e l'inghiottì con le loro case, le loro tende e tutto quel che avevano in mezzo d'Israele.	6 what he did to Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when, with al Israel standinground, the earth opened its mouth and swal owed them, with their families, their tents and al their supporters.
7 I vostri occhi han visto le grandi cose che il Signore ha fatto:	7 Al these great deeds of Yahweh you have seen with your own eyes.
8 osservate adunque tutti suoi comandamenti ch'io oggi vi prescrivo, affinchè possiate entrare in possesso della terra verso la quale siete incamminati,	8 'You must keep al the commandments which I enjoin on you today, so that you may have the strengthto conquer the country into which you are about to cross, to take possession of it,
9 e vivere lungamente sulla terra che il Signore promise con giuramento ai vostri padri e alla loro progenie; terra che stilla latte e miele,	9 and so that you may live long in the country which Yahweh promised on oath to bestow on yourancestors and their descendants, a country flowing with milk and honey.
10 che la terra della quale tu entri in possesso, non è come la terra d'Egitto, donde sei uscito, dove, gettato il seme, bisogna portar l'acqua ad irrigarla, come si fa degli orti;	10 'For the country which you are about to enter and make your own is not like the country of Egyptfrom which you have come, where, having done your sowing, you had to water the seed by foot, as though in avegetable garden.
11 ma è terra di monti e di piani, che aspetta dal cielo le piogge:	11 No, the country which you are about to enter and make your own, is a country of hills and val eyswatered by the rain of heaven.
12 il Signore la guarda sempre, e gli occhi di lui sono sopra di essa dal principio alla fine dell'anno.	12 Yahweh your God looks after this country, the eyes of Yahweh your God are always on it, from thebeginning of the year to the end.
13 Se dunque obbedirete ai miei comandamenti, che oggi vi dò, di amare il Signore Dio vostro, di servirlo con tutto il vostro cuore e con tutta l'anima vostra,	13 Depend on it: if you faithfully obey the commandments I enjoin on you today, loving Yahweh yourGod and serving him with al your heart and al your soul,
14 egli darà alla vostra terra le prime e le ultime piogge, affinchè possiate raccogliere il frumento, il vino, l'olio,	14 I shal give your country rain at the right time, rain in autumn, rain in spring, so that you can harvestyour wheat, your new wine and your oil.
15 l'erba, dei campi per il bestiame, e abbiate voi stessi da mangiare a sazietà.	15 I shal provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat to your heart's content.
16 Guardate di non farvi sedurre il cuore, di non allontanarvi dal Signore per servire agli dèi stranieri e adorarli,	16 Beware of letting your heart be seduced: if you go astray, serve other gods and bow down to them,
17 chè il Signore adirato non chiuda il cielo, e, non cadendo la pioggia, la terra non produca più i suoi frutti e voi periate ben presto nell'ottima terra che il Signore sta per darvi.	17 Yahweh's anger wil be kindled against you, he wil shut the heavens, there wil be no more rain, thesoil wil not yield its produce and, in the fine country given you by Yahweh, you wil quickly perish.
18 Conservate adunque nel cuore e nell'anima queste parole, legatecele come segno alle mani, mettetele tra i vostri occhi;	18 'Let these words of mine remain in your heart and in your soul; fasten them on your hand as a signand on your forehead as a headband.
19 insegnatele ai vostri figli, e meditatele nello stare in casa e per la strada, nell'andare a letto e alzandovi.	19 Teach them to your children, and keep on tel ing them, when you are sitting at home, when you areout and about, when you are lying down and when you are standing up.
20 Le scriverai sopra gli stipiti e sopra le porte della tua casa,	20 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates,
21 affinchè si moltiplichino i tuoi giorni e quelli dei tuoi figli nella terra che il Signore giurò ai tuoi padri di dar loro, finché il cielo starà sopra la terra.	21 so that you and your children may live long in the country which Yahweh swore to your ancestorsthat he would give them for as long as there is a sky above the earth.
22 Or se voi osserverete e metterete in pratica i comandamenti ch'io vi prescrivo, se amerete il Signore Dio vostro camminando in tutte le sue vie e stando uniti a lui,	22 'For if you faithful y keep and observe al these commandments that I enjoin on you today, lovingYahweh your God, following all his ways and holding fast to him,
23 il Signore disperderà tutte queste nazioni davanti a voi, e le soggiogherete, sebbene di voi maggiori e più potenti.	23 Yahweh wil dispossess al these nations before you, and you wil dispossess nations greater andmore powerful than yourselves.
24 Ogni luogo che il vostro piede calcherà sarà vostro. I vostri confini andranno dal deserto, dal Libano, dal gran fiume Eufrate sino al mare d'occidente.	24 Wherever the sole of your foot treads wil be yours; your territory will run from the desert al the wayto the Lebanon; and from the River, from the River Euphrates, as far as the Western Sea, wil be your territory.
25 Nessuno vi potrà stare a fronte. Il Signore Dio vostro metterà, come vi ha detto, il terrore e lo spavento di voi sopra tutto il paese che siete per calcare.	25 No one wil be able to resist you; Yahweh your God will make you feared and dreaded throughout theterritory you tread, as he has promised you.
26 Ecco io metto oggi dinanzi a voi la benedizione e la maledizione:	26 'Today, look, I am offering you a blessing and a curse:
27 da benedizione, se obbedirete ai comandamenti del Signore Dio vostro, che oggi vi prescrivo;	27 a blessing, if you obey the commandments of Yahweh your God which I enjoin on you today;
28 la maledizione se, non obbedendo ai comandamenti del Signore Dio vostro, vi allontanerete dalla strada che oggi vi dò, per andar dietro a dèi stranieri che non conoscete.	28 a curse, if you disobey the commandments of Yahweh your God and leave the way which today Ihave marked out for you, by following other gods hitherto unknown to you.
29 Or quando il Signore Dio tuo ti avrà introdotto nella terra ove vai ad abitare, metterai la benedizione sul monte Garizim, la maledizione sul monte Ebal,	29 And when Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are about to enter andmake your own, you must set the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.
30 che si trovano al di là del Giordano, dietro la strada che mena all'occidente, nella terra dei Cananei che abitano nella pianura, di faccia a Gaigaia, che è vicina ad una valle la quale è spaziosa e si protende lontano.	30 (These mountains, as everyone knows, are on the other side of the Jordan on the westward road, inthe territory of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, near the Oak of Moreh.)
31 Voi passerete il Giordano per possedere la terra che il Signore Dio vostro sta per darvi, ma per averla e possederla,	31 For you are about to cross the Jordan, to enter and take possession of the country given you byYahweh your God. You wil possess it, you wil live in it,
32 abbiate cura di osservare le cerimonie e le ordinazioni che oggi io metterò dinanzi a voi.	32 and you must keep and observe al the laws and customs promulgated by me to you today.'
