1 Allora Mosè cantò coi figli d'Israele questo cantico al Signore, e dissero: « Cantiamo al Signore, perchè s'è maestosamente glorificato: ha precipitato in mare cavallo e cavaliere,	1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: I will sing to the LORD, for he is gloriously triumphant; horse and chariot he has cast into the sea.
2 il Signore è la mia forza e il mio cantico. Egli è stato la mia salvezza. Egli è il mio Dio: lo glorificherò; è il Dio di mio padre: lo esalterò,	2 My strength and my courage is the LORD, and he has been my savior. He is my God, I praise him; the God of my father, I extol him.
3 il Signore ha fatto da guerriero; il suo nome è l'onnipotente.	3 The LORD is a warrior, LORD is his name!
4 Egli ha precipitati nel mare i cocchi e l'esercito di Faraone: i migliori suoi principi son restati sommersi nel Mar Rosso:	4 Pharaoh's chariots and army he hurled into the sea; the elite of his officers were submerged in the Red Sea.
5 gli abissi li hanno ricoperti: sono andati a fondo come una pietra.	5 The flood waters covered them, they sank into the depths like a stone.
6 La tua destra, o Signore, si è segnalata nella forza; la tua destra, o Signore, ha fiaccato il nemico;	6 Your right hand, O LORD, magnificent in power, your right hand, O LORD, has shattered the enemy.
7 colla grandezza della tua maestà hai rovesciato i tuoi avversari, hai mandato l'ira tua che li ha divorati come paglia.	7 In your great majesty you overthrew your adversaries; you loosed your wrath to consume them like stubble.
8 Al soffio del tuo furore si sono accumulate le acque, l'onda fluente si è fermata, gli abissisi son rappresi in mezzo al mare.	8 At a breath of your anger the waters piled up, the flowing waters stood like a mound, the flood waters congealed in the midst of the sea.
9 Il nemico diceva: — Inseguirò, raggiungerò, dividerò le spoglie; sarà sazia la mia brama; sguainerò la mia spada, la mia mano li ucciderà.	9 The enemy boasted, "I will pursue and overtake them; I will divide the spoils and have my fill of them; I will draw my sword; my hand shall despoil them!"
10 Ma al soffio del tuo spirito il mare li ha coperti; sono andati a fondo come piombo nelle acque sterminate.	10 When your wind blew, the sea covered them; like lead they sank in the mighty waters.
11 Chi tra i forti è simile a te, o Signore? Chi è simile a te, mirabile nella santità, terribile e degno di lode, operatore di prodigi?	11 Who is like to you among the gods, O LORD? Who is like to you, magnificent in holiness? O terrible in renown, worker of wonders,
12 Tu hai stesa la tua mano e la terra li ha inghiottiti.	12 when you stretched out your right hand, the earth swallowed them!
13 Nella tua misericordia sei stato guida al popolo che hai riscattato, e colla tua forza lo porti verso la tua santa dimora.	13 In your mercy you led the people you redeemed; in your strength you guided them to your holy dwelling.
14 I popoli si sono levati, si sono adirati; l'angoscia ha oppresso gli abitanti della Palestina.	14 The nations heard and quaked; anguish gripped the dwellers in Philistia.
15 Son già sbigottiti i principi d'Edom; il tremito ha invaso i forti di Moab; son gelati dallo spavento gli abitanti di Canaan.	15 Then were the princes of Edom dismayed; trembling seized the chieftains of Moab; All the dwellers in Canaan melted away;
16 La paura e lo spavento piombi su di loro per la potenza del tuo braccio! Diventino immobili come pietra finchè il tuo popolo, o Signore, non sia passato, finché non sia passato questo popolo che hai fatto tuo!	16 terror and dread fell upon them. By the might of your arm they were frozen like stone, while your people, O LORD, passed over, while the people you had made your own passed over.
17 Tu li introdurrai e li stabilirai sul monte del tuo retaggio, nella tua sicurissima dimora che ti sei fatta, o Signore; nel tuo santuario che le tue mani, o Signore, hanno stabilito,	17 And you brought them in and planted them on the mountain of your inheritance-- the place where you made your seat, O LORD, the sanctuary, O LORD, which your hands established.
18 Il Signore regnerà in eterno ed oltre ancora.	18 The LORD shall reign forever and ever.
19 I cocchi di Faraone e i suoi cavalieri sono entrati nel mare, ma il Signore ha fatto ritornare sopra di loro le acque del mare, mentre i figli d'Israele han camminato sull'asciutto in mezzo al mare ».	19 They sang thus because Pharaoh's horses and chariots and charioteers had gone into the sea, and the LORD made the waters of the sea flow back upon them, though the Israelites had marched on dry land through the midst of the sea.
20 E Maria, profetessa, la sorella d'Aronne, preso in mano un timpano con tutte le altre donne che andavan dietro a lei con timpani, danzando,	20 The prophetess Miriam, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand, while all the women went out after her with tambourines, dancing;
21 cantava per la prima, rispondendo: « Cantiamo al Signore, perchè s'è maestosamente glorificato: ha precipitato in mare cavallo e cavaliere ».	21 and she led them in the refrain: Sing to the LORD, for he is gloriously triumphant; horse and chariot he has cast into the sea.
22 Poi Mosè fece partire gli Israeliti dal Mar Rosso, ed essi, avanzando pel deserto di Sur, camminarono nel deserto tre giorni, senza trovare acqua.	22 Then Moses led Israel forward from the Red Sea, and they marched out to the desert of Shur. After traveling for three days through the desert without finding water,
23 Ed anche giunti a Mara, non he poteron bere le acque, perchè erano amare; per la qual ragione fu posto a quel luogo il nome molto appropriato di Mara, cioè Amarezza.	23 they arrived at Marah, where they could not drink the water, because it was too bitter. Hence this place was called Marah.
24 Allora il popolo si mise a mormorare contro Mosè e a dire: « Che berremo noi? »	24 As the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What are we to drink?"
25 Ma egli gridò al Signore, il quale gli mostrò un legno: messo quel legno nelle acque, esse diventarono dolci. In quel luogo il Signore diede al popolo precetti e ordini, mettendolo alla prova,	25 he appealed to the LORD, who pointed out to him a certain piece of wood. When he threw this into the water, the water became fresh.It was here that the LORD, in making rules and regulations for them, put them to the test.
26 e disse: « Se tu ascolterai la voce del Signore Dio tuo, e farai quello che è giusto dinanzi a lui, obbedendo ai suoi comandi ed osservando tutti i suoi precetti, io non ti manderò addosso nessuno dei mali con cui ho colpito l'Egitto; perchè io sono il Signore che ti guarisco ».	26 "If you really listen to the voice of the LORD, your God," he told them, "and do what is right in his eyes: if you heed his commandments and keep all his precepts, I will not afflict you with any of the diseases with which I afflicted the Egyptians; for I, the LORD, am your healer."
27 I figli d'Israele vennero di poi in Elim, dove erano dodici fontane d'acqua e settanta palme, e si accamparono presso le acque.	27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water.
