1 בֶּן־עֶשְׂרִים וְחָמֵשׁ שָׁנָה יֹותָם בְּמָלְכֹו וְשֵׁשׁ־עֶשְׂרֵה שָׁנָה מָלַךְ בִּירוּשָׁלִָם וְשֵׁם אִמֹּו יְרוּשָׁה בַּת־צָדֹוק | 1 Jotham was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for sixteen years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Jerushah daughter of Zadok. |
2 וַיַּעַשׂ הַיָּשָׁר בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂה עֻזִּיָּהוּ אָבִיו רַק לֹא־בָא אֶל־הֵיכַל יְהוָה וְעֹוד הָעָם מַשְׁחִיתִים | 2 He did what Yahweh regards as right, just as his father Uzziah had done. Only he did not enterYahweh's sanctuary. But the people continued to do wrong. |
3 הוּא בָּנָה אֶת־שַׁעַר בֵּית־יְהוָה הָעֶלְיֹון וּבְחֹומַת הָעֹפֶל בָּנָה לָרֹב | 3 It was he who built the Upper Gate of the Temple of Yahweh and carried out considerable work on thewal of the Ophel. |
4 וְעָרִים בָּנָה בְּהַר־יְהוּדָה וּבֶחֳרָשִׁים בָּנָה בִּירָנִיֹּות וּמִגְדָּלִים | 4 He also built towns in the highlands of Judah and built forts and towers in the wooded areas. |
5 וְהוּא נִלְחַם עִם־מֶלֶךְ בְּנֵי־עַמֹּון וַיֶּחֱזַק עֲלֵיהֶם וַיִּתְּנוּ־לֹו בְנֵי־עַמֹּון בַּשָּׁנָה הַהִיא מֵאָה כִּכַּר־כֶּסֶף וַעֲשֶׂרֶת אֲלָפִים כֹּרִים חִטִּים וּשְׂעֹורִים עֲשֶׂרֶת אֲלָפִים זֹאת הֵשִׁיבוּ לֹו בְּנֵי עַמֹּון ס וּבַשָּׁנָה הַשֵּׁנִית וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁית | 5 He also went to war against the king of the Ammonites and defeated them; and the Ammonites had togive him a hundred talents of silver, ten thousand kor of wheat and ten thousand of barley that year. And theAmmonites paid him the same amount, the second and third years afterwards. |
6 וַיִּתְחַזֵּק יֹותָם כִּי הֵכִין דְּרָכָיו לִפְנֵי יְהוָה אֱלֹהָיו | 6 Jotham became powerful because he kept an unswerving course before Yahweh his God. |
7 וְיֶתֶר דִּבְרֵי יֹותָם וְכָל־מִלְחֲמֹתָיו וּדְרָכָיו הִנָּם כְּתוּבִים עַל־סֵפֶר מַלְכֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל וִיהוּדָה | 7 The rest of the history of Jotham, al his wars and his policy, are recorded in the Book of the Kings ofIsrael and Judah. |
8 בֶּן־עֶשְׂרִים וְחָמֵשׁ שָׁנָה הָיָה בְמָלְכֹו וְשֵׁשׁ־עֶשְׂרֵה שָׁנָה מָלַךְ בִּירוּשָׁלִָם | 8 He was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for sixteen years inJerusalem. |
9 וַיִּשְׁכַּב יֹותָם עִם־אֲבֹתָיו וַיִּקְבְּרוּ אֹתֹו בְּעִיר דָּוִיד וַיִּמְלֹךְ אָחָז בְּנֹו תַּחְתָּיו׃ פ | 9 Then Jotham fel asleep with his ancestors, and was buried in the City of David; his son Ahazsucceeded him. |
