SMITH VAN DYKE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 وقال ايليا التشبي من مستوطني جلعاد لاخآب حيّ هو الرب اله اسرائيل الذي وقفت امامه انه لا يكون طل ولا مطر في هذه السنين الا عند قولي	1 Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, 'By the life of Yahweh, God of Israel, whom Iserve, there will be neither dew nor rain these coming years unless I give the word.'
2 وكان كلام الرب له قائلا	2 The word of Yahweh came to him,
3 انطلق من هنا واتجه نحو المشرق واختبئ عند نهر كريث الذي هو مقابل الاردن	3 'Go away from here, go east and hide by the torrent of Cherith, east of the Jordan.
4 فتشرب من النهر وقد أمرت الغربان ان تعولك هناك.	4 You can drink from the stream, and I have ordered the ravens to bring you food there.'
5 فانطلق وعمل حسب كلام الرب وذهب فاقام عند نهر كريث الذي هو مقابل الاردن.	5 So he set out and did as Yahweh had said; he went and stayed by the torrent of Cherith, east of theJordan.
6 وكانت الغربان تاتي اليه بخبز ولحم صباحا وبخبز ولحم مساء وكان يشرب من النهر.	6 The ravens brought him bread in the morning and meat in the evening, and he quenched his thirst atthe stream.
7 وكان بعد مدة من الزمان ان النهر يبس لانه لم يكن مطر في الارض	7 But after a while the stream dried up, for the country had had no rain.
8 وكان له كلام الرب قائلا	8 And then the word of Yahweh came to him,
9 قم اذهب الى صرفة التي لصيدون واقم هناك. هوذا قد امرت هناك امرأة ارملة ان تعولك.	9 'Up and go to Zarephath in Sidonia, and stay there. I have ordered a widow there to give you food.'
10 فقام وذهب الى صرفة. وجاء الى باب المدينة واذا بامرأة ارملة هناك تقش عيدانا فناداها وقال هاتي لي قليل ماء في اناء فاشرب.	10 So he went off to Sidon. And when he reached the city gate, there was a widow gathering sticks.Addressing her he said, 'Please bring a little water in a pitcher for me to drink.'
11 وفيما هي ذاهبة لتأتي به ناداها وقال هاتي لي كسرة خبز في يدك.	11 She was on her way to fetch it when he cal ed after her. 'Please', he said, 'bring me a scrap of breadin your hand.'
12 فقالت حيّ هو الرب الهك انه ليست عندي كعكة ولكن ملء كف من الدقيق في الكوار وقليل من الزيت في الكوز وهانذا اقش عودين لآتي واعمله لي ولابني لناكله ثم نموت.	12 'As Yahweh your God lives,' she replied, 'I have no baked bread, but only a handful of meal in a jarand a little oil in a jug; I am just gathering a stick or two to go and prepare this for myself and my son to eat, andthen we shall die.'
13 فقال لها ايليا لا تخافي ادخلي واعملي كقولك ولكن اعملي لي منها كعكة صغيرة اولا واخرجي بها اليّ ثم اعملي لك ولابنك اخيرا.	13 But Elijah said to her, 'Do not be afraid, go and do as you have said; but first make a little scone of itfor me and bring it to me, and then make some for yourself and for your son.
14 لانه هكذا قال الرب اله اسرائيل ان كوار الدقيق لا يفرغ وكوز الزيت لا ينقص الى اليوم الذي فيه يعطي الرب مطرا على وجه الارض.	14 For Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Jar of meal shal not be spent, jug of oil shall not be emptied,before the day when Yahweh sends rain on the face of the earth.'
15 فذهبت وفعلت حسب قول ايليا واكلت هي وهو وبيتها اياما.	15 The woman went and did as Elijah told her and they ate the food, she, himself and her son.
16 كوار الدقيق لم يفرغ وكوز الزيت لم ينقص حسب قول الرب الذي تكلم به عن يد ايليا	16 The jar of meal was not spent nor the jug of oil emptied, just as Yahweh had foretold through Elijah.
17 وبعد هذه الأمور مرض ابن المرأة صاحبة البيت واشتدّ مرضه جدا حتى لم تبق فيه نسمة.	17 It happened after this that the son of the mistress of the house fel sick; his il ness was so severe thatin the end he expired.
18 فقالت لايليا ما لي ولك يا رجل الله. هل جئت اليّ لتذكير اثمي واماتة ابني.	18 And the woman said to Elijah, 'What quarrel have you with me, man of God? Have you come here tobring my sins home to me and to kill my son?'
19 فقال لها اعطيني ابنك. واخذه من حضنها وصعد به الى العلية التي كان مقيما بها واضجعه على سريره	19 'Give me your son,' he said and, taking him from her lap, he carried him to the upper room where hewas staying and laid him on his bed.
20 وصرخ الى الرب وقال ايها الرب الهي أايضا الى الارملة التي انا نازل عندها قد اسأت باماتتك ابنها.	20 He cried out to Yahweh, 'Yahweh my God, by kil ing her son do you mean to bring grief even to thewidow who is looking after me?'
21 فتمدد على الولد ثلاث مرات وصرخ الى الرب وقال يا رب الهي لترجع نفس هذا الولد الى جوفه.	21 He stretched himself on the child three times and cried out to Yahweh, 'Yahweh my God, may thesoul of this child, I beg you, come into him again!'
22 فسمع الرب لصوت ايليا فرجعت نفس الولد الى جوفه فعاش.	22 Yahweh heard Elijah's prayer and the child's soul came back into his body and he revived.
23 فاخذ ايليا الولد ونزل به من العلية الى البيت ودفعه لامه. وقال ايليا انظري. ابنك حيّ.	23 Elijah took the child, brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to hismother. 'Look,' Elijah said, 'your son is alive.'
24 فقالت المرأة لايليا هذا الوقت علمت انك رجل الله وان كلام الرب في فمك حق	24 And the woman replied, 'Now I know you are a man of God and the word of Yahweh in your mouth istruth itself.'
