SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Eis os que foram juntar-se a Davi, em Siceleg, quando ainda devia conservar-se longe de Saul, filho de Cis; estão contados entre os homens valentes que lhe prestaram auxílio durante a guerra.	1 These are the men who rallied to David at Ziklag while he was stil being kept away from Saul son ofKish; they were among the champions, the warriors.
2 Eram arqueiros, exercitados em lançar pedras, tão bem com a mão esquerda como com a direita, e a atirar flechas com o arco; eram irmãos de Saul, de Benjamim.	2 They were equipped with bows and could sling stones or shoot arrows from the bow with either righthand or left. Of Saul's fellow-tribesmen from Benjamin:

14 Eram estes os filhos de Gad, chefes do exército; o menor deles, sozinho, podia vencer cem; o mais forte, mil.	14 Jeremiah tenth, Machbannai eleventh.
15 Foram eles que atravessaram o Jordão, no primeiro mês, quando o rio costuma transbordar em todo o seu curso, e que puseram em fuga todos os habitantes dos vales, a leste e a oeste.	15 These Gadites were the leaders of the troops, the least of them a match for a hundred men and thegreatest a match for a thousand.
16 Houve também filhos de Benjamim e de Judá, que vieram aliar-se a Davi nas cavernas.	16 These were the men who once crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed itsbanks and had driven out al the lowlanders to east and west.
17 Davi saiu-lhes ao encontro e lhes disse: Se é como amigos que vindes a mim, para me prestar auxílio, eu estou unido de coração convosco; mas, se é para me trair e me entregar aos inimigos, enquanto minhas mãos estão limpas de toda violência, que o Deus de nossos pais o veja e faça justiça.	17 Some of the Benjaminites and Judahites also joined David at the stronghold.
18 Então o espírito entrou em Amasaí, chefe dos trinta, o qual disse: A ti, Davi, e contigo, filho de Isaí! Paz, paz a ti e àquele que te protege, porque teu Deus te presta auxílio. Davi recebeu-os e lhes deu um lugar entre os chefes do bando.	18 When David came forward to meet them, he responded to them by saying, 'If you have come to mewith peaceful intent to help me, you will find me a good friend. But if it is to betray me to my enemies, seeing thatI have done nothing wrong, may the God of our ancestors take note and condemn you.'
19 De Manassés também passaram homens para o lado de Davi, quando ele foi, com os filisteus, fazer guerra a Saul. Contudo, não socorreram os filisteus, porque, depois de se reunirem em conselho, os príncipes dos filisteus, despediram Davi, dizendo: Ele passará para o lado de seu mestre Saul, com perigo de nossas cabeças.	19 Then the Spirit invested Amasai the leader of the Thirty: 'We are your men, David; with you, son ofJesse! Peace be with you, peace be with you; peace be with those who help you! For your God has helped you!'And David accepted them, including them among his more senior officers.
20 Quando voltou a Siceleg, homens de Manassés juntaram-se a ele: Ednas, Jozabad, Jediel, Miguel, Jozabad, Eliú e Salati, chefes de milhares de homens de Manassés.	20 Some Manassehites also defected to David as he was setting out with the Philistines to fight Saul.But he did not help the Philistines because, after consultation, their chiefs sent him away, saying, 'He wil defectto his master Saul and it wil cost us our heads!'
21 Ajudaram Davi contra os bandos de saqueadores, porque todos eram homens valentes, e foram chefes no exército.	21 He was on his way to Ziklag when these Manassehites deserted to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael,Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, Zil ethai, chiefs of thousands in Manasseh.

39 Permaneceram ali, três dias com Davi, comendo e bebendo, porque seus irmãos lhes tinham preparado víveres.	39 Al these warriors in battle array came to David at Hebron with the firm determination of makingDavid king of al Israel; and the rest of Israel, too, was of one mind in wanting to make David king.
40 Ademais, os que moravam perto deles, até Issacar, Zabulon e Neftali, traziam-lhes víveres, sobre jumentos, camelos, mulas e bois, farinha, massa de figos, tortas de uvas, vinho, óleo, bois, ovelhas em abundância; porque havia alegria em Israel.	40 For three days they stayed there with David, eating and drinking, their fellow-tribesmen having madepreparations for them;
	41 their neighbours too, from as far away as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, came bringing food ondonkeys, camels, mules and oxen-supplies of flour, fig cakes, bunches of raisins, wine, oil, quantities of oxenand sheep -- for there was joy in Israel.
