Genesis 26

1 Sobreveio uma fome à região {além da primeira fome que houve no tempo de Abraão}, e Isaac foi ter com Abimelec, rei dos filisteus em Gerara.	1 Then, when a famine arose over the land, after that barrenness which had happened in the days of Abraham, Isaac went to Abimelech, king of the Palestinians, in Gerar.
2 O Senhor apareceu-lhe e disse-lhe: "Não desças ao Egito; fica na terra que eu te indico.	2 And the Lord appeared to him, and he said: “Do not descend into Egypt, but rest in the land that I will tell you,
3 Habita nela; eu estou contigo e te abençoarei, porque é a ti e à tua posteridade que darei toda esta terra, e cumprirei o juramento que fiz ao teu pai Abraão.	3 and sojourn in it, and I will be with you, and I will bless you. For to you and to your offspring I will give all these regions, completing the oath that I promised to Abraham your father.
4 Multiplicarei tua posteridade como as estrelas do céu, dar-lhe-ei todas estas regiões, e nela serão benditas todas as nações da terra,	4 And I will multiply your offspring like the stars of heaven. And I will give to your posterity all these regions. And in your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed,
5 porque Abraão obedeceu à minha voz e observou os meus preceitos, meus mandamentos e minhas leis."	5 because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my precepts and commandments, and observed the ceremonies and the laws.”
6 Isaac ficou, pois, em Gerara.	6 And so Isaac remained in Gerar.
7 Quando os habitantes da região o interrogavam a respeito de sua mulher, ele dizia-lhes que era sua irmã, pois respondendo "É minha mulher", temia que os homens daquele lugar o matassem por causa de Rebeca, que era muito bela.	7 And when he was questioned by the men of that place about his wife, he answered, “She is my sister.” For he was afraid to confess her to be his mate, thinking that perhaps they would put him to death because of her beauty.
8 E, como sua estada ali se prolongasse, aconteceu que um dia, olhando Abimelec pela janela, viu Isaac que acariciava Rebeca, sua mulher.	8 And when very many days had passed, and he had remained in the same place, Abimelech, king of the Palestinians, gazing through a window, saw him being playful with Rebekah, his wife.
9 Mandou chamá-lo e disse-lhe: "É evidente que é tua mulher! E como dizias tu que era tua irmã." "Porque, respondeu Isaac, eu temia que me matassem por causa dela."	9 And summoning him, he said: “It is clear that she is your wife. Why did you falsely claim her to be your sister?” He answered, “I was afraid, lest I might die because of her.”
10 Abimelec replicou: "Que nos fizeste? Um pouco mais e alguém do povo teria abusado de tua mulher, e terias atraído o pecado sobre nós!"	10 And Abimelech said: “Why have you burdened us? Someone from the people could have lain with your wife, and you would have brought a great sin upon us.” And he instructed all the people, saying,
11 Então Abimelec mandou publicar diante de todo o povo que seria morto quem quer que tocasse naquele homem ou em sua mulher.	11 “Whoever will touch the wife of this man will die a death.”
12 Isaac semeou naquela terra, e colheu o cêntuplo naquele mesmo ano; o Senhor o abençoava.	12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and he found, in that same year, one hundredfold. And the Lord blessed him.
13 E este homem cresceu, e seus bens foram aumentando cada vez mais; tornou-se extremamente rico.	13 And the man was enriched, and he continued prospering as well as increasing, until he became very great.
14 Possuía rebanhos de ovelhas e de bois e numerosos escravos. E os filisteus o invejavam.	14 Likewise, he had possessions of sheep and of herds, and a very large family. Because of this, the Palestinians envied him,
15 Por isso, entupiram todos os poços que tinham cavado os escravos de seu pai Abraão, quando este ainda vivia.	15 so, at that time, they obstructed all the wells that the servants of his father Abraham had dug, filling them with soil.
16 Abimelec disse-lhe: "Aparta-te de nós, pois te tornaste muito mais poderoso do que nós."	16 It reached a point where Abimelech himself said to Isaac, “Move away from us, for you have become very much more powerful than we.”
17 Partiu Isaac e, tendo levantado o seu acampamento no vale de Gerara, habitou aí.	17 And departing, he then went toward the torrent of Gerar, and he dwelt there.
18 Abriu de novo os poços cavados outrora, no tempo de seu pai Abraão, que os filisteus tinham entupido depois de sua morte, e deu-lhes os mesmos nomes que o seu pai lhes tinha dado.	18 Again, he dug up other wells, which the servants of his father Abraham had dug, and which, after his death, the Philistines had formerly obstructed. And he called them by the same names that his father had called them before.
19 Seus servos cavaram outro poço no vale, e encontraram ali uma fonte de água viva.	19 And they dug in the torrent, and they found living water.
20 Mas os pastores de Gerara começaram a disputar com os pastores de Isaac: "Esta água é nossa", diziam eles. Isaac chamou então a esse poço Esec, porque lho tinham contestado.	20 But in that place also the shepherds of Gerar argued against the shepherds of Isaac, by saying, “It is our water.” For this reason, he called the name of the well, because of what had happened, ‘Calumny.’
21 Abriram seus pastores um segundo poço, mas surgiu uma outra disputa, e por isso pôs-lhe o nome de Sitna.	21 Then they dug up yet another one. And over that one also they fought, and he called it, ‘Enmity.’
22 Partindo em seguida dali, abriu outro poço, sobre o qual não houve mais discussão, e pôs-lhe o nome de Rehobot, "porque agora, disse ele, o Senhor nos pôs ao largo, e prosperaremos na terra."	22 Advancing from there, he dug another well, over which they did not contend. And so he called its name, ‘Latitude,’ saying, “Now the Lord has expanded us and caused us to increase across the land.”
23 Dali, Isaac subiu a Bersabéia.	23 Then he ascended from that place into Beersheba,
24 Naquela mesma noite, o Senhor apareceu-lhe e disse-lhe: "Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, teu pai. Nada temas, estou contigo. Eu te abençoarei e multiplicarei tua descendência por causa de Abraão, meu servo."	24 where the Lord appeared to him on the same night, saying: “I am the God of Abraham your father. Do not be afraid, for I am with you. I will bless you, and I will multiply your offspring because of my servant Abraham.”
25 Isaac construiu um altar nesse lugar e invocou o nome do Senhor. Levantou depois ali sua tenda e seus escravos cavaram um poço.	25 And so he built an altar there. And he invoked the name of the Lord, and he stretched out his tent. And he instructed his servants to dig a well.
26 Abimelec veio de Gerara procurá-lo, com Ocozat, seu amigo, e Ficol, general do seu exército.	26 When Abimelech, and Ahuzzath, his friend, and Phicol, the leader of the military, had arrived from Gerar to that place,
27 Isaac disse: "Por que me procurais, já que me detestais e me expulsastes do meio de vós?"	27 Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, a man whom you hate, and whom you have expelled from among you?”
28 Eles responderam: "Nós vimos que o Senhor está contigo, e pensamos conosco: Haja um juramento entre nós e ti. Queremos, pois, fazer aliança contigo.	28 And they responded: “We saw that the Lord is with you, and therefore we said: Let there be an oath between us, and let us initiate a pact,
29 Jura que não nos farás nenhum mal, assim como também nós não tocamos em nada do que é teu e só te temos feito bem, deixando-te partir em paz. Agora, tu és o bendito do Senhor."	29 so that you may not do us any kind of harm, just as we have touched nothing of yours, and have not caused any injury to you, but with peace we released you, augmented by the blessing of the Lord.”
30 Isaac preparou-lhes um banquete, e eles comeram e beberam.	30 Therefore, he made them a feast, and after the food and drink,
31 No dia seguinte pela manhã, fizeram mutuamente os seus juramentos; Isaac despediu-os em seguida, e eles afastaram-se dele em paz.	31 arising in the morning, they swore to one another. And Isaac sent them away peacefully to their own place.
32 Nesse mesmo dia, os escravos de Isaac vieram dar-lhe notícias do poço que estavam cavando: "Encontramos água", disseram eles.	32 Then, behold, on the same day the servants of Isaac came, reporting to him about a well which they had dug, and saying: “We have found water.”
33 Ele pôs a esse poço o nome de Sibea. De onde vem o nome de Bersabéia, nome que a cidade conserva até o dia de hoje.	33 Therefore, he called it, ‘Abundance.’ And the name of the city was established as ‘Beersheba,’ even to the present day.
34 Esaú, com a idade de quarenta anos, tomou por mulheres Judite, filha de Beeri, o hiteu, e Basemat, filha de Elon, o hiteu.	34 In truth, at forty years of age, Esau took wives: Judith, the daughter of Beeri, the Hittite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon, of the same place.
35 Elas foram um motivo de desgosto para Isaac e Rebeca.	35 And they both offended the mind of Isaac and Rebekah.
