1 I Filistei, catturata l'arca di Dio, la portarono da Eben-Ezer ad Asdod.	1 The Philistines, having captured the ark of God, transferred it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.
2 I Filistei, presa poi l'arca di Dio, la introdussero nel tempio di Dagon e la deposero presso Dagon.	2 They then took the ark of God and brought it into the temple of Dagon, placing it beside Dagon.
3 Gli abitanti di Asdod, alzatisi il giorno dopo, andarono al tempio di Dagon e guardarono: ed ecco che Dagon giaceva faccia a terra davanti all'arca del Signore. Allora presero Dagon e lo rimisero al suo posto.	3 When the people of Ashdod rose early the next morning, Dagon was lying prone on the ground before the ark of the LORD. So they picked Dagon up and replaced him.
4 L'indomani si levarono di buon mattino, ed ecco che Dagon stava faccia a terra davanti all'arca del Signore: la testa di Dagon e le palme delle sue mani erano in frantumi presso la soglia; solo il torso di Dagon era rimasto intatto.	4 But the next morning early, when they arose, Dagon lay prone on the ground before the ark of the LORD, his head and hands broken off and lying on the threshold, his trunk alone intact.
5 Per questo i sacerdoti di Dagon e tutti quelli che entrano nel tempio di Dagon non calpestano la soglia di Dagon, ad Asdod, fino al giorno d'oggi.	5 For this reason, neither the priests of Dagon nor any others who enter the temple of Dagon tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this very day; they always step over it.
6 Poi il Signore fece pesare la sua mano sugli abitanti di Asdod e li devastò colpendo con bubboni Asdod e il suo territorio.	6 Now the LORD dealt severely with the people of Ashdod. He ravaged and afflicted the city and its vicinity with hemorrhoids; he brought upon the city a great and deadly plague of mice that swarmed in their ships and overran their fields.
7 Gli abitanti di Asdod, visto come andavano le cose, dissero: "Non rimanga presso di noi l'arca del Dio d'Israele, perché la sua mano è pesante contro di noi e contro il nostro dio Dagon".	7 On seeing how matters stood, the men of Ashdod decided, "The ark of the God of Israel must not remain with us, for he is handling us and our god Dagon severely."
8 Fecero adunare presso di loro tutti i capi dei Filistei e dissero: "Che dobbiamo fare dell'arca del Dio d'Israele?". Risposero: "Si porti a Gat l'arca del Dio d'Israele!". Così trasferirono l'arca del Dio d'Israele.	8 So they summoned all the Philistine lords and inquired of them, "What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?" The men of Gath replied, "Let them move the ark of the God of Israel on to us."
9 Dopo averla trasportata, la mano del Signore fu su quella città con un enorme panico. Egli colpì gli abitanti di quella città dal più piccolo al più grande; scoppiarono bubboni anche ad essi.	9 So they moved the ark of the God of Israel to Gath! But after it had been brought there, the LORD threw the city into utter turmoil: he afflicted its inhabitants, young and old, and hemorrhoids broke out on them.
10 Allora mandarono l'arca di Dio ad Accaron. Quando giunse l'arca di Dio ad Accaron, i cittadini protestarono: "Mi hanno condotto l'arca del Dio d'Israele per far morire me e la mia gente".	10 The ark of God was next sent to Ekron; but as it entered that city, the people there cried out, "Why have they brought the ark of the God of Israel here to kill us and our kindred?"
11 Fatti adunare tutti i capi dei Filistei, dissero: "Rimandate l'arca del Dio d'Israele, perché ritorni al suo luogo e non faccia più morire né me né il mio popolo!". Difatti vi era in tutta la città una costernazione mortale. La mano di Dio si faceva sentire là molto pesante:	11 Then they, too, sent a summons to all the Philistine lords and pleaded: "Send away the ark of the God of Israel. Let it return to its own place, that it may not kill us and our kindred." A deadly panic had seized the whole city, since the hand of God had been very heavy upon it.
12 gli uomini che non erano morti furono colpiti da bubboni e il gemito della città salì al cielo.	12 Those who escaped death were afflicted with hemorrhoids, and the outcry from the city went up to the heavens.
