Lettera ai Romani 2

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Perciò sei inescusabile, proprio tu che giudichi, chiunque tu sia: con lo stesso atto con cui giudichi gli altri, condanni te stesso: infatti tu che giudichi compi le stesse cose che condanni.	1 So no matter who you are, if you pass judgement you have no excuse. It is yourself that you condemnwhen you judge others, since you behave in the same way as those you are condemning.
2 Ma sappiamo che il giudizio di Dio si applica secondo verità a coloro che compiono tali cose.	2 We are well aware that people who behave like that are justly condemned by God.
3 O pensi questo, o uomo che giudichi coloro che compiono tali azioni e intanto le compi tu stesso, che sfuggirai al giudizio di Dio?	3 But you -- when you judge those who behave like this while you are doing the same yourself -- do youthink you wil escape God's condemnation?
4 Oppure disprezzi il tesoro della sua bontà, della sua pazienza, della sua longanimità, senza riconoscere che la benignità di Dio ti spinge alla conversione?	4 Or are you not disregarding his abundant goodness, tolerance and patience, failing to realise that this generosity of God is meant to bring you to repentance?
5 Ma per mezzo della tua durezza e della tua coscienza inaccessibile al pentimento, tu ammassi per te un tesoro di collera per il giorno dell'ira e della rivelazione della giustizia giudicatrice di Dio,	5 Your stubborn refusal to repent is only storing up retribution for yourself on that Day of retribution whenGod's just verdicts wil be made known.
6 che compenserà ciascuno secondo le sue opere:	6 He wil repay everyone as their deeds deserve.
7 la vita eterna a quelli che nella perseveranza di un agire onesto cercano gloria, onore, immortalità;	7 For those who aimed for glory and honour and immortality by persevering in doing good, there will beeternal life;
8 ira e sdegno per coloro che appartengono alla categoria dei ribelli, disobbediscono alla verità, ma obbediscono alla malvagità.	8 but for those who out of jealousy have taken for their guide not truth but injustice, there wil be the furyof retribution.
9 Tribolazioni e angustie cadranno su ciascun essere umano che attua il male, giudeo in primo luogo e greco;	9 Trouble and distress wil come to every human being who does evil -- Jews first, but Greeks as wel ;
10 gloria, onore e pace a chiunque opera il bene, giudeo in primo luogo e greco,	10 glory and honour and peace will come to everyone who does good -- Jews first, but Greeks as wel .
11 poiché Dio non fa distinzioni di persona.	11 There is no favouritism with God.
12 Quanti infatti peccarono senza la legge, periranno senza la legge; parimenti quanti peccarono con la legge, saranno giudicati secondo la legge.	12 Al those who have sinned without the Law wil perish without the Law; and those under the Law whohave sinned wil be judged by the Law.
13 Infatti non coloro che ascoltano la legge sono giusti davanti a Dio, ma coloro che la mettono in pratica saranno dichiarati giusti.	13 For the ones that God wil justify are not those who have heard the Law but those who have kept theLaw.
14 Infatti tutte le volte che i pagani, che non hanno la legge, praticano le azioni prescritte dalla legge, seguendo il dettame della natura, essi, pur non avendo la legge, sono legge per se stessi.	14 So, when gentiles, not having the Law, still through their own innate sense behave as the Lawcommands, then, even though they have no Law, they are a law for themselves.
15 Essi mostrano che l'opera voluta dalla legge è scritta nei loro cuori, dato che la loro coscienza rende loro testimonianza e i loro ragionamenti si accusano o difendono tra di loro,	15 They can demonstrate the effect of the Law engraved on their hearts, to which their own consciencebears witness; since they are aware of various considerations, some of which accuse them, while others providethem with a defence . . . on the day when,
16 nel giorno in cui Dio giudicherà i segreti degli uomini secondo il mio vangelo, per mezzo di Gesù Cristo.	16 according to the gospel that I preach, God, through Jesus Christ, judges all human secrets.
17 Se poi tu ti vanti di essere giudeo, ti appoggi alla legge e ti glori in Dio;	17 If you can cal yourself a Jew, and you real y trust in the Law, and are proud of your God,
18 conosci ciò che Dio vuole e istruito dalla legge distingui le cose migliori,	18 and know his wil , and tel right from wrong because you have been taught by the Law;
19 e hai la persuasione di essere guidatore di ciechi, luce di quelli che sono nelle tenebre,	19 if you are confident that you are a guide to the blind and a beacon to those in the dark,
20 dottore di ignoranti, maestro di fanciulli, possedendo nella legge il paradigma della scienza e della verità...	20 that you can teach the ignorant and instruct the unlearned because the Law embodies all knowledgeand all truth-
21 Tu che istruisci gli altri, non istruisci te stesso? Tu che proclami che non si deve rubare, rubi?	21 so then, in teaching others, do you teach yourself as wel ? You preach that there is to be no stealing,but do you steal?
22 Tu che dici che non si deve compiere adulterio, lo compi? Tu che hai in orrore gli idoli, spogli i templi?	22 You say that adultery is forbidden, but do you commit adultery? You detest the worship of objects, butdo you desecrate holy things yourself?
23 Tu, vantandoti della legge, mediante la trasgressione della legge disonori Dio.	23 If, while you are boasting of the Law, you disobey it, then you are bringing God into contempt.
24 Il nome di Dio per causa vostra infatti viene bestemmiato in mezzo ai pagani, come è stato scritto.	24 As scripture says: It is your fault that the name of God is held in contempt among the nations.
25 La circoncisione infatti ha un'utilità se tu metti in pratica la legge; ma se tu sei prevaricatore della legge, la tua circoncisione diventa incirconcisione.	25 Circumcision has its value if you keep the Law; but if you go on breaking the Law, you are no morecircumcised than the uncircumcised.
26 E allora se un incirconciso mette in pratica le opere della legge, la sua incirconcisione non gli varrà forse come circoncisione?	26 And if an uncircumcised man keeps the commands of the Law, wil not his uncircumcised state countas circumcision?
27 E il fisicamente incirconciso, che osserva la legge, condannerà te che con i precetti e la circoncisione trasgredisci la legge.	27 More, the man who, in his native uncircumcised state, keeps the Law, is a condemnation of you, who,by your concentration on the letter and on circumcision, actual y break the Law.
28 Infatti il vero giudeo non sta nell'apparenza esterna, né la vera circoncisione è quella che appare nella carne;	28 Being a Jew is not only having the outward appearance of a Jew, and circumcision is not only avisible physical operation.
29 ma il vero giudeo lo è al di dentro, e la vera circoncisione è quella del cuore, secondo lo Spirito, non secondo la lettera: questi ha la lode non dagli uomini, ma da Dio.	29 The real Jew is the one who is inwardly a Jew, and real circumcision is in the heart, a thing not of theletter but of the spirit. He may not be praised by any human being, but he wil be praised by God.
