Lettera ai Romani 13

LA SACRA BIBBIA	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Ogni persona si sottometta alle autorità che le sono superiori. Non esiste infatti autorità se non proviene da Dio; ora le autorità attuali sono state stabilite e ordinate da Dio.	1 Let every soul be subject to higher authorities. For there is no authority except from God and those who have been ordained by God.
2 Di modo che, chi si ribella all'autorità, si contrappone a un ordine stabilito da Dio. Coloro poi che si contrappongono, si attireranno da se stessi la condanna che avranno.	2 And so, whoever resists authority, resists what has been ordained by God. And those who resist are acquiring damnation for themselves.
3 I magistrati, infatti, non fanno paura a chi opera il bene, ma a chi opera il male. Vuoi allora non avere timore dell'autorità? Fa' il bene e riceverai lode da essa.	3 For leaders are not a source of fear to those who work good, but to those who work evil. And would you prefer not to be afraid of authority? Then do what is good, and you shall have praise from them.
4 E' infatti a servizio di Dio in tuo favore, perché tu compia il bene. Ma se fai il male, temi, poiché essa non porta invano la spada: infatti è a servizio di Dio, vindice dell'ira divina verso colui che compie il male.	4 For he is a minister of God for you unto good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid. For it is not without reason that he carries a sword. For he is a minister of God; an avenger to execute wrath upon whomever does evil.
5 Per tutto questo è necessario sottomettersi, non solo a motivo dell'ira, ma anche a motivo della coscienza.	5 For this reason, it is necessary to be subject, not solely because of wrath, but also because of conscience.
6 Per questo dovete anche pagare i contributi: sono infatti servitori pubblici di Dio e si applicano costantemente a questo compito.	6 Therefore, you must also offer tribute. For they are the ministers of God, serving him in this.
7 Date a tutti ciò che è loro dovuto: il contributo a chi è dovuto il contributo, l'imposta a chi è dovuta l'imposta, il rispetto a chi è dovuto il rispetto, l'onore a chi è dovuto l'onore.	7 Therefore, render to all whatever is owed. Taxes, to whom taxes is due; revenue, to whom revenue is due; fear, to whom fear is due; honor, to whom honor is due.
8 Non abbiate debiti con nessuno, se non quello di amarvi gli uni gli altri. Chi infatti ama l'altro, compie la legge.	8 You should owe nothing to anyone, except so as to love one another. For whoever loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
9 Infatti: Non commettere adulterio, non uccidere, non rubare, non desiderare e qualunque altro comandamento trova il suo culmine in questa espressione: Amerai il tuo prossimo come te stesso.	9 For example: You shall not commit adultery. You shall not kill. You shall not steal. You shall not speak false testimony. You shall not covet. And if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this word: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
10 L'amore, infatti, non procura del male al prossimo: quindi la pienezza della legge è l'amore.	10 The love of neighbor does no harm. Therefore, love is the plenitude of the law.
11 E fate questo, rendendovi conto del tempo nel quale viviamo: è tempo ormai per voi di svegliarvi dal sonno; adesso infatti la nostra salvezza è più vicina che non quando demmo l'assenso della fede.	11 And we know the present time, that now is the hour for us to rise up from sleep. For already our salvation is closer than when we first believed.
12 La notte è avanzata nel suo corso, il giorno è imminente. Perciò mettiamo da parte le opere proprie delle tenebre e rivestiamoci delle armi della luce.	12 The night has passed, and the day draws near. Therefore, let us cast aside the works of darkness, and be clothed with the armor of light.
13 Comportiamoci con la dignità che conviene a chi agisce di giorno: non gozzoviglie od orge, non lussurie o impudicizie, non litigi o gelosie.	13 Let us walk honestly, as in the daylight, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in promiscuity and sexual immorality, not in contention and envy.
14 Ma rivestitevi del Signore Gesù Cristo e non indulgete alla carne, seguendo i suoi impulsi sfrenati.	14 Instead, be clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in its desires.
